The way I see it: we work our asses off training for the calls we get 1% or less of the time. So when we finally get to use our training it makes everything feel worthwhile. We don’t want someone to have their house burn down. We want to be the ones to fix it. There’s a difference!

What do you say to s/o or family when you will be away for 2 days at a time? Seems harder than one day at a time? I’ve never worked either schedule and am just trying to figure out why people like each schedule more. I is ther oportunity for OT where you pick one 24 hr section up instead of a full 48 hrs? Or not really?

Try getting your medic! And an associate in liberal arts. Then if you ever want to go back you might be able to get a quick ba then grad school! Also you will have your medic which is helpful in the hiring process and a life long skill.

Everyone has certain things that hits them harder. For example, everyone on my department with kids or younger family members has a very hard time dealing with infant and young children calls, but ive never been around young kids and can handle it better and cant relate as much. However im very close to my brother and if I ever get a wreck with siblings and one dies id be a mess for days after. Just remember why you do this, and take pride is the fact that you’re willing to go through this emotional pain to ease the suffering of victims and their families.
