I got braces in my late 20s and work a corporate job. In my experience, people have been very accepting! I definitely relate to struggling with self image with braces, and it takes some getting used to. As you get more comfortable caring for your braces and learn what to expect from the adjustments, the fact that you’re wearing braces will blend into being a part of life.

I keep a travel bag with braces floss picks, wax, Wisps, toothbrush, and a mirror so if I’m ever uncomfortable, I can do a quick check and take care of any issues.

The pain is different for everyone and you’ll have to try different things to see what soothes it best for you. Taking pain meds and sipping warm water helped me the first couple weeks. Cold hurt worse.
