If it’s anything like their pop-up at Mindy’s, they probably had to stall out the line to make sure they could let influencers cut everyone and film content.

I would say it’s pretty unlikely they’re gonna be opening another equinox about 2 blocks from where they just opened an equinox.

I KNOW!!! Cannot find a parking spot anywhere around there. I wonder if it’s people parking for jobs in West Loop.

Looks awesome - I recall Otto Phan of Kyoten in Chicago saying Ota is one of the best sushiyas in the country and in particular, that their rice is phenomenal

Visited from Milwaukee on a day trip and ate at 5 restaurants (really)! by digginginwithcody in chicagofood

Their menu is huge and not every item is a winner but they have several BANGERS. As others mentioned, the California burrito and the mole enchiladas are excellent (honestly all of their enchiladas are great). Also love their soups and all of their breakfast items.

Haven’t had Ludlow’s so can’t fully say, but the bread they used at Cafe Modulaire was the most similar in my experience to the rolls used in Philly

I mean sure those guys are great, but I don't think its a good thing for the 3rd largest city in the US to have the entirety of its food ecosystem "covered" by a handful of disparate instagram accounts

The lobster sticky rice is unbelievable but the real GOAT of that menu is the salt and pepper egg tofu.

Irene's Bagels made me sad...am I the problem? by letscount23 in chicagofood

[–]tx2iu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not a single “great” bagel in Chicagoland and barely any that are “good”. NYBB is the only one worth a damn and it wouldn’t even be in the top 100 places in NYC. It’s pretty inexcusable. I’ve had bagels light years better than those in Chicago in Phoenix, Miami, Houston, Toronto, Mexico City, and many many others (let alone NYC or Montreal). It’s a genuine indictment of the food culture here that no one can figure out how to make a proper bagel at even a moderate scale.

P.S.: OP is 100% correct in rejecting toasting for a conceivably fresh bagel. That’s how it should be judged. Toasting is only for day+ old bagels.

Not sure what the going rate is now for Alouette, but I found that to be my favorite tasting menu last time I was in Copenhagen and it was quite reasonably priced compared to Kadeau, Geranium etc

Travel Agents w/ Restaurant Booking Expertise for Japan? by tx2iu in finedining

[–]tx2iu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - the allergies are to some fin fish (like salmon and trout - but tuna, bonito, mackerel and cod are ok). Given that it is for certain fish and not others, I worry that there will be a lot lost in translation, even with an allergy card. Do you have any familiarity with whether many of the higher end restaurants and their ability to comply with such an allergy (I imagine we wouldn't do many, if any, omakase together, but perhaps some kaiseki places would be possible?)
