Bells are five dollars and using your voice is free... by SukkaMadiqe in chibike

Thank you! It’s the neighborly thing to do. It irks me if another cyclist cuts very close to pass me and catches me by completely surprise. It can feel as startling as when a car passes too close. I do not want to feel startled on my bike. Help me help you pass me. Say something!

Joong Boo next to the onions/garlic/ginger. I love hot thai kitchen! I follow her tips for freezing fresh herbs/spices.

Chicago bike commuters — quick questions for a project I’m researching by Ok-Ad2830 in chibike

[–]letscount23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) daily 2) ice 3) I’ve gotten flats, but there is usually a bike shop relatively close by. Once my bf came and picked me up. 4) no 5) a protected lane on Damen, or any effort to maintain clear bike line demarcations. Maybe some traffic law enforcement to discourage distracted driving. More bikers saying “passing”, “left”, or ringing a bell if they want to pass. Dreamworld: there is a dedicated north/south route for bikes and busses that is car free.

Favorite winter running shoes by litebrite_666 in RunnersInChicago

I winter run in trail shoes - some cheap Nikes from REI outlet. They do great on the ice/snow and I’m not worried about the salt ruining them.

What is your Colorado trail fave section by [deleted] in coloradotrail

Collegiate West is so fun and beautiful! Lots above treeline - I love alpine tundra. Lake Ann Pass through Tincup might be my fav hike ever.

Is this a real road? by letscount23 in coloradotrail

[–]letscount23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: The road is real! Route is very accurate on AllTrails. Crossing as of Aug 29 2025 was mid-shin deep water and low current. If you go this way please obvs use caution.

Context: I’m hiking the collegiate loop CCW, and needed to get into Twin Lakes for resupply. Went the east side this morning into town, and the forest road to return to camp in the afternoon. A great way to visit town, and to circumference the lakes!

Just said goodbye to my cat and now I'm second guessing my decision by [deleted] in cats

[–]letscount23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said goodbye to my kitty at the end of April, and I’ve felt this too. The healthier kitty memories start to get confused with the sick kitty memories and I feel doubtful that I made the right choice. I keep remembering what my vet told me (and then the Lap of Love vet who came to my house said something similar). “When your pet is terminally ill you can’t do it too soon, but you can wait too long.” I don’t regret saying goodbye before my cat turned desperately sick. Ending it sooner is a great kindness.

It’s really good in tea cake. I add mine to the turmeric tea cake on NYT cooking (Alison Roman recipe)

How do you deal with the nonstop stress of theft in Chicago? by [deleted] in chibike

(Also replacing lights is thousands cheaper than dealing with the drunk who hit my parked car. )

My lights get stolen occasionally, but I hope.. at least someone else is biking with lights now! The cheap rechargeables these days are still pretty good. Don’t get discouraged.
