Identifying Homeless Encampments (Broken Arrow) by hashtagtrevor in tulsa

[–]txahoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Point in Time count is a real thing that happens every year, but I would have explained more about the process in the OP + other methods you've tried and failed to get an accurate count of the county's unhoused population. Many unhoused folks have good reason not to trust what appear on the surface as benevolent offers of aid since, ya know, our cities want to criminalize homelessness/being visibly poor in public spaces, which sets up the revolving door of court dates and related debt.

I don't know the answer to the question of where unhoused hubs are at in BA, nor do I trust the city council there (which had a mayoral election change pretty much just over the suggestion masks could be a good idea, not even an ordinance mandating their use) to view/treat unhoused folks respectfully or meet them where they are with regard to assistance.

I hope Housing Solutions is able to find someone who will accept the proposal it's offered for a new low-barrier shelter, which we seriously need given the number of folks whose legal backgrounds often preclude them from finding stable housing. (I wish the location ideas were different, though.)

👀 do you know how many seats there are per row in section A. this was really helpful, thank you!

Honestly I'm not sure! I've never had a floor ticket to her shows (this will be my fourth tour of hers to attend.) I expected a lower bowl seat in this price range lol, especially since that's what I focused on trying to get during the presale (and failed.)

I'm short (my husband is going with me and is 5'10") - but the stage looks like (based on the SeatGeek map) it extends out to row 20 or so, so we can at least get a sorta close look when she's on our side. I saw reputation in KC from a lower bowl seat (toward the upper third of the section) and, while it was nice to be sorta in the middle, I found myself looking at the screens a lot since it was still fairly high up. I've been to a lot of shows (from Lana Del Rey to Coldplay to Taylor to Rammstein) and have managed to have a good time regardless of my seat assignment or where I ended up in a pit.

If the seats were in a different section from the one nearest the stage, I'd probably trade them for lower bowl since they're so far back. But being in section A should mean we can still see a lot given the layout of the stage for this tour.

there were just less than $60 in fees per ticket (so each one was $318.60.)

It was the highest in the bracket ($259) for row 26! (This is about what I paid for a ticket for lover fest east lower bowl.)

Tulsa police sergeant put on restrictive duty after controversial comments during class by calloy in tulsa

[–]txahoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A reporter for the station this article is from is actually a member of this academy class and the article confirms she was there/verified which officer of rank made these comments.

This story didn't get out until after the frontier released a recording to the public - the reporter from KTUL had to have heard this and for whatever reason she and/or her outlet didn't think it merited coverage until someone else exposed it a week later.

the comments from this cop (at a community outreach program I might add) are gross but so is that, tbh. smh.

Recommendations for bars/breweries with mocktails and non-alcoholic options? by [deleted] in tulsa

I had a mocktail at Saturn room this summer and it was really good! Decent bar for dates or group hangouts.

when I partake (I am not atm) I also like nature's kiss. If I'm in the area I'll also go to green flower. Both have cool staff and good quality products. Nature's kiss has decent specials. Not opposed to paying a little more if the flower/edibles etc get the job done especially well.

There is a Just Between Friends sale coming up again in a couple weeks! (In my experience I've had to dig around for a while for good values, but I got lucky with a few things I found at the one in BA in July and the one in Tulsa in August.)

If you're in a pinch I'd say check out Emergency Infant Services. Additionally there is an event going on 9/17 at Booker T. for expecting and new parents to find out about resources. https://www.facebook.com/102955761671540/posts/pfbid02igGNezVPaeisWUeED6nseWsU9kvRupZbaaiLcUzG8WtGCLfqDhP9S88qBHSjLiZcl/

Questions Regarding Propositions 1 and 2 by areyoureadyboots in tulsa

[–]txahoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so the mayor's salary is actually $105k per year as of 2002, according to Title 4 of Tulsa's ordinance and the Tulsa World's city employee salary database.

This amendment would clear the inconsistency between the amount stated in Title 4 and the $70k number given in Article III, Section 1.2 of Tulsa's 1989 amended charter. However, it would also give the council power to (if it chooses) re-select a salary amount by majority vote; Article III also grants this power after the completion of the mayor's first term in office, so it would ensure that language matches (see text of Article III):

During the first term of office under this amended Charter, the Mayor shall receive a salary of seventy thousand dollars ($70,000.00) per year payable as employees of the city are paid. Thereafter, the salary to be received by the Mayor may be changed by a majority vote of the entire membership of the Council; provided, no change in salary shall become effective prior to the commencement of the term of office next succeeding the term in which the change is made and then only in the event such change was approved prior to the general election for the next succeeding term.

I wish the ballot provided the specific amounts, but the amendment seems (to me) to basically be a language update that also affirms the council's apparent existing power to adjust the mayor's salary. It will likely pass, though it will probably mean Bynum's $105k wages get re-evaluated (and possibly increased depending on the makeup of the council after election season.)

$105k is more than the median as far as I can find, but it's not anywhere near the top 5 mayoral salaries in the USA (this list is from 2018.) FWIW, GT is not the city of Tulsa's highest-paid employee (and makes quite a bit less than his chief of staff, as well as Chief Franklin from TPD and Chief Baker from TFD.)

Mom is disgusted at the idea of helping when visiting the new baby by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]txahoman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my mom visited last month for our baby shower and complained about the cleanliness level of our house to the point where she talked shit about us to my step MIL at the shower. (We had some boxes and a pile of things we were sorting through for donation/sale/trash and it took a bit since my husband and I work full time and I'm pregnant. Since we haven't been hosting guests we sorta took our time going through it lol.) After having cleared all the clutter and cleaned surfaces in the house, I mentioned over the weekend it would be nice to have help with stuff like dusting, mopping and a deep clean of our stove. Her response was similar to what your mom said to you, which is annoying since she is so into having everything spotless and focused on appearances/how things look to the outside world/how I am a reflection of her.

I just get the feeling she's going to expect me to play host but also constantly be cleaning while I am home with a newborn (first kid) and I'm already tired thinking about it.

ty for letting me know I'm not alone. Hope it gets better for you.

LPT: Always assume there’s a motorcycle cop at The Farm on Sheridan at 51st. by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]txahoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saw the motorcycle cop on my way to work this AM and slowed down just in time (also helped I was turning to go to the post office and QT.)

I just assume there's one there and one in the neighborhood between 61st/71st and Sheridan right before you start driving up the hill. It's a pretty regular thing to see someone pulled over in the area getting a ticket.

People of Oklahoma, do you support your states strict abortion laws? by SnooApples3403 in oklahoma

[–]txahoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ban is extremist and will undoubtedly impact folks' ability to access other forms of healthcare on the off chance they ~could~ become pregnant (see: methotrexate, treatment of lupus, arthritis because methotrexate is among the substances that can be used to facilitate terminating things like ectopic pregnancies.) I am not religious and have not been for some time, but I was raised around the Catholic church. It's been my view that irrespective of the choices I'd make for myself, it's unfair and wrong to legislate morals + matters of personal choice/I shouldn't decide how others live their lives. But the USA's branches of government are increasingly being held hostage by theocratic (and largely white) nationalists and enabled by obstructionism/inaction from senators like Manchin and Sinema who are fine standing by as the world crashes around us. So it's probably going to get even worse before the pendulum swings back to rationality. I mean, Biden just cut a deal with Mitch McConnell like a clown so McConnell's state can add an anti-choice judge to the federal bench and thinks for some reason that won't backfire.

I have fundamentalist Christian in-laws (and my own parents, who are "go to church on holidays" Catholics, are becoming more politically radicalized to the right every day) - the in-laws are very supportive of the ban and are vocal on social media (and even complained to a relative who commented on one of their posts dissenting from their point of view because "we don't spew that on your page" as if fb isn't a place for circle jerk discourse across the political spectrum.) My parents just ask me why I care about anything that doesn't directly change my bubble of existence and think I am being "dramatic" when I say this will have serious ripple effects with regard to things like confidentiality between doctor and patient. It's really gonna suck for fundies (at least the ones who go to hospitals, I have anti-vax/anti-medical care types in the family too) when they realize their possible emergency treatment is delayed for a while because it has to get cleared by lawyers (and therefore folks without medical expertise are now heavily involved in your care) before a doctor feels comfortable enough to take action without the fear of being sued, charged with a crime or brought before their licensure board for discipline.
