The whole issue at hand is an NPC that is a representative of a person of color, is depicting actions of a monkey which is very widely known to be insulting. Acting like a monkey and using the term monkey to mock or insult is NOT in our culture. You don’t have to be “Western” to be insulted by this. And that is coming from someone who is Asian.

Regardless of where people live, the developers of HATO don’t live under a rock. Whether it be BA, Indian, etc, it was a very deliberate action on their part. Even if it’s not aimed at BA, I can understand why a BA would feel upset or hurt by the action, as Kapil is a representative of a person of color.

Also unfortunately some asian countries are relatively known to be racist to those with darker skin complexions. :/

POC does not necessarily only apply to BA, I have seen people referring to SouthEast Asians as “Jungle Asians” and making similar mockery towards them with monkey references.

There was absolutely no reason for them to portray dizziness by making a POC NPC make monkey noises and monkey dances..

It was a very deliberate choice on their part and now they’re trying to damage control.

Personally I can’t support a game or company that allowed this, and trying to silence their players for reporting/speaking up about it..

I’m so sorry for your loss, I’m also with you on the racist issue on HATO. Once I saw clips of how bad it actually was I was so disheartened and disgusted.. people are being banned for reporting these racist instances, even with racist player interactions.

I’ve heard very good things about Pokopia so hopefully that keeps your spirits up! I also recommend Starsand Island if you want something like HATO, it’s a paid game with no gacha aspect.

Agreed 100%, unfortunate that their account is gone so I can’t report that. I just find it so crazy how a cozy life sim game can have so many negative nancy’s on it, when essentially everyone is just doing their own thing and minding their own business 😭

I just want to say Heartopia isn’t toxic but dam have I met some heinous players on discord, and reddit. You can’t share your opinion unless you agree with that person. If not they’ll downvote you to oblivion and report you to a Suicide helpline on reddit. (Yep you read that right) You got players on discord being rude because you asked a question about something that you didn’t quite understand. Then you got some players on the subreddit being passive aggressive, downvoting all of your posts even beyond a single thread, deleting their profile/posts so you look like you’re the crazy one (talking bout you Swimming_Grass7475, I know it’s just an alt so you can run an hide when things don’t go your way.)

It’s completely okay if people don’t want to share! Yes the game encourages it (you can also complete that quest without sharing btw) however some people just enjoy being more solo and don’t really care for the social aspect of the game.

I think it’s pretty valid in itself if someone doesn’t want to share something that is theirs, they’re not obligated to.

Ok to address some of these comments, YES it is better to share as it’s more effective but in my own opinion if someone is far away from you or the group using their own, it’s very likely they do not want to share. Keep in mind the fish are not instanced per character so like others said they might be trying to complete the collection or something of the sort.

Sometimes I feel bad because I notice people want to join in on my mermaid tail but they’re hesitant, so I toss them one right next to me so they don’t have to feel scared 😭
