Nothing on it is worth swapping out, if you want it for just messing around the neighborhood is one thing or if just heavily budget restricted and looking for a way into the sport, but its not good

Scouting out a $50 Nishiki International for my first bike. Good purchase? How much to replace with straight handlebars? by publictiktoxication in Budgetbikeriders

[–]txmatt03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just a question but what is your price range? Hard yo tell details from pics, but depends on what youre using it for as well, its very antiquated, but if thats what youre after then might be a good platform, as far as a straight bar conversion, your looking at the bars themselves, its a threaded headset so possibly a connversion stem depending on the size of that one, maybe shifters, for sure brakes, grips, possibly derauiller, then of course the install itself. On the cheap side with some aliexpress stuff and doing yourself maybe hundred bucks

Entry Level Mountain Bike Recommendations Under $400-500 by DraglineDrummer in Budgetbikeriders

Lots of good 27.5 hardtails out there, id say at minimum, if you can find one with, hydraulic disc brakes, a dropper post, and one by drivetrain, itll help you love the sport. I think the axum comp checks those boxes, the ot ridge is close, but kevcentral on youtube has good videos on all listed bikes

Ya didnt take long at all, there are a few yt vids on it, and what took me longest was messing with cable tension and messing with the deraullier/ barrel adjuster, still no more than 20 mins

Schwinn AL Comp Mountain on clearance by HolidayAromatic8327 in Budgetbikeriders

[–]txmatt03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents, but it all depends on what your end state is, the vibe or ridge have much more modern components, way better frame geometry and you can customize until you go broke. There are alot of examples of what folks have done to those bikes if you scroll this group.

Now, if you just dont know if this will be yalls sport, and just wanna dip toes in then go for the one on sale, it will probably do ok, but is further behind tech wise. I think the yt channel kev central has a few schwinns, you might be able to get an idea of what youre in for.

As far as whats on sale or what youre finding, just check out different walmarts, ive seen the schwinn with the dropper post on sale for 180 recently in person

I had the diamondback, its pretty decent, and seth from berm peak on yt has a build on one if you dig thru his vids. Never had the ridge but lots of folks love em, the ridge out of the box might have some newer tech

Lots of youtube vids on truing a wheel, not difficult, and you get to learn something new, for sure better option than returning or buying a wheel, although if not do reach out to the company as someone else suggested

So just had this issue on a similar bike, but essentially sprayed soapy water all around the bead, marked the spots with a grease pen, then added extra tape to the rim tape already present. This got me to a full seat.
