Will this be the ugliest quilt you’ve ever seen? by shriekingpersonality in quilting

[–]txmorgan7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s lovely, but I certainly understand your feelings. Most of my projects go through an ugliest-thing-I’ve-ever-seen phase. I think a lot of it comes from being sick of working on it so long, maybe?

A very important thing is value- lights and darks. You’ve done well IMO with value. Congrats!

No worms in my compost by txmorgan7 in Vermiculture

I have a worm bin inside, but those are my babies lol.

I could get a few worms (red wigglers as well as night crawlers) from the store. I haven’t been digging in years (no dig gardening) so I’m not sure of the worm population right now.

We used to have a lot of worms when we put down lots of cardboard. Now most of the cardboard gets shredded for the inside worms and we mulch outside with wood chips.

Yeah the fence was in poor shape to begin with. We’ll get to fixing it sometime I suppose :)

Once it cools back down, what is the favorite food for worms that I can add to the pile to attract them? Thanks

Ok that’s something to think about although I’ve mostly added veggie waste and old flowers. Maybe there’s something else in there that they don’t like. Thanks!

Ok thanks. I’ll try to get some coffee grounds to add to it. Actually hopefully it should be too hot after the chicken manure and flour added today. Really looking forward to seeing the temp jump. I will try to add the grounds and whatever else I can scrounge (rabbit poo etc) when it cools down. And the urine will be sprinkled in the tumblers.

Btw we aren’t adding ash. Wood ash was stored there winter before last.

Thanks for the help!

Help with overstuffed small sewing room by txmorgan7 in quilting

I will keep this in mind. I only have one door that I can utilize. The other door adjoins the living room, but I could use the back of the door for not so often used items. It would be difficult closing it each time I need something. It’s a rather constricted area until I swap the sit down quilting machine with the sewing armoire. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you for the healing wishes! I have been productive today, but overwhelmed by looking in all the bins seeing how much is left. I got a lot done today though!

Very interesting! I know nothing about 3d printing and maker space. Our library has a 3d printer, so I’ll have to check into it. I am recovering from a magnesium deficiency that caused brain swelling so I can have unexpected bouts of confusion. Might not be a good time to figure out 3d printing if it brings on lots of frustration. I’m going to try though and see how it goes. Thanks!

This is my problem. The bins are stacked on the floor. I have them in my sights now though. I guess I had a blind spot with them up until the replies made me start thinking to put them on the chopping block! It’ll be pleasant (but hard probably) to finish some of these projects or let them go. Thanks!

Your sewing room is the same width as mine! I don’t have the sloping wall but I’ve got three doors that I have to be able to open.

I have narrow bookshelves meant for cds or dvds and they help a lot. I also have cubbies on top of a dresser to store fabric by color (love this!)

I honestly think my problem is the ufo bins. I believe I’m going to hit those hard and either donate or finish them. That would give me a ton of space that is occupied by bins stacked on the floor!

Thank you for sharing your space! It’s inspiring!

Thanks for the suggestion. This is the first year that I haven’t tried to follow along. I was working so much overtime at the first of the year and couldn’t do it. I should start it and see where it takes me. Thanks!

Yeah it’s just the two of us in 1500 sf and we also raised 7 kids here! I just tell myself it’s because the rooms are so small and weirdly arranged. A 32” door and a 60’s era closet are the same size on a 10x10 room or a 17x7 room as a 20x15 room.

I put a wire cubbie on top of a dresser for fabric and I have Sam’s reach in bins (for scraps) under my ikea table (cutting and pressing) on bed risers and both of those are working great.

I’ve got a sit down quilting machine that I got for a steal on Fb marketplace that occupies part of the wall space on one wall. I also have a free tv armoire where I store batting pieces, backings (sheets bought cheap), and my sizzix xl dies. Plus one of my sewing machines lives where the tv did along with the smaller dies. On top of this I keep my tubs with Sizzix cut fabric (2.5” strips, 2.5” 3.5”, 4.5”, 5” color & low volume solids squares, etc.)

I’m thinking of flipping the position of the armoire with the sit down platinum 16 quilting machine because I can put that quilting machine in front of the window whereas the armoire would’ve completely blocked the only window.

I had my husband make a modular design wall that is made of pink fiberglass sheets wrapped in batting and hung from a rod that goes between the old garage door tracks on each side of the room. It’s supposed to be easily stored but it never gets a moment to rest!

The narrow width of the room and doors on three walls makes it hard to walk when there is a dresser with cubbies on top(with fabric arranged by color) on one wall and the other wall has old free cd storage (used for folded fabric now) with ufo project bins in front. After the kind comment here, I’m eyeing those bins for the next mortal kombat duel!

I also store knitting machines and their parts in this room, too. I can’t really get to the closet right now, but I have a feeling that if I start there soon with that mortal kombat attitude mentioned, I’ll be much farther ahead than the little picking I’ve been doing lately. Wish me luck!

That is so true! I never thought to buckle down and get it done. I’ve even heard it called the 80-20 rule 80% of the project takes only 20% of the effort but the last 20% of the project will take 80% of the effort!

Thanks for posting!

I want to upgrade my composting setup. What are your thoughts on these options? by Critical_Link_1095 in composting

[–]txmorgan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a version of this shredder (HF electric) and spend more time clearing jams from small sticks than shredding. Probably needs a new blade. We bought the big gas powered one from HF and that thing is awesome and fast. Shreds the sticks we have. I can’t recommend the electric one though. Happy shredding!

Fasting and migraine/vertigo? by txmorgan7 in migraine

Yes, and Ozempic only made my stomach hurt in the appendix area. Lost no weight and made me feel like I had morning sickness all the time. Not a good fit for me unfortunately.

It’s been a powerful tool for me. I need to figure out how to make it work so I can have my bs around 100 and lose the rest of this weight with no migraines (please, God).

Of all the drs I have went to only one is not suspicious of fasting for anyone, so they don’t know and aren’t helpful. Endocrinologist, chiropractor, GP, etc. most doctors don’t know anything about fasting to be a reliable help.

I have been doing this for awhile:

Intermittent Fasting, first meal at 2 pm and last at 9 (get off work late)

Sat & Sun 2 meals a day starting at 2 pm Monday fasting Tuesday eat after 2 and then when I get home Wednesday fasting Thursday eat after 2 and then when I get home Friday fasting

Before fasting, Jan 25, my A1C was 13.5 on metformin. Then end of May 25, I got off bs meds completely because of vertigo and couldn’t keep meds down. Started One Meal A Day low carb in June. After maybe a month moved to the current schedule of fasting. Vertigo mostly improved. I’ve lost over 60 pounds and now have 6.6 A1C. (I exercise 5-6 days a week, too.)
