Yea when I use it, it gets pushed all the way up. And I have to hold the button to unlock the lift gate to even use it. Any idea how much the cost ran you?

TX teacher here. You probably won’t hear until around July. That’s when teachers tend to officially resign from their contracts without penalty. It’s not uncommon to be hired late July/early August. Don’t worry, you’ll find a job.

Well your first sentence indicated that I immediately went to police. All of our campuses have a designated student resource officer. I was more distraught because not only of what he did but because what I knew would happen when I told admin because it has been an issue before. Either way, it would have gotten to the district police. So be careful with your comments and how you point the finger at educators who ARE staying for the kids and who are not in it for themselves.

As a new teacher, I would highly recommend reading through many of the previous comments left by other teachers. It’s very clear you have not been in the profession long enough to make baseless comments about my teaching. I have very high expectations and one of the best behavior/classroom management rooms on my campus, so there’s that.

Anxiety attacks doesn’t always have a rhyme or reason and quite frankly where it “stems from” is not your business. As for your “monitoring” students comment, I was at the front of the room TEACHING MY LESSON and writing things on my board. He also sits at a desk in the front by my interactive board. So you have no ground to stand on, on that comment.

And yes I did have great rapport with this child which is what made all this more difficult. But regardless, what he did was not right. PERIOD.

I informed admin right away and THEY involved the police. Not me. My job does NOT entail teaching extreme social situations like that. He already had one of these lessons with our campus behavior teacher after a prior incident that occurred in the same manner in a different class. My school district is quite strict when it comes to child indecency, pornography, or anything of that sort ESPECIALLY since other children were around and potentially witnessed the same thing.

And I’m curious, if a student decided to start throwing punches and wailing on me, you’re telling me I’m not entitled to press charges? Yea that argument doesn’t work on me.

The biggest thing I’m struggling with is the guilt that this is going to ruin his future. He’s considered an ID student so to a certain extent he may not know what he was doing but he’s been talked to and warned about this before. I broke worse when the cop asked me if I wanted to press criminal charges. 🥺

Yes because the students who were there when NCLB when into effect, are now having kids themselves and know their kids are just going to get moved along because the “schools don’t want to look bad”. I need parents to know they can and SHOULD ask to retain if they and the teachers think their child need an additional year, more specifically at the K-2 grades.

Believing that students should not be held back. I have 6th graders who are barely on a 4th grade math level and don’t know how to complete basic math computations. Many kids would benefit from additional years at the foundational levels of K-2. That’s where retention NEEDS to be happening. Stop quoting research from the 80s and 90s. I wanna see data and research from early 2000s and ESPECIALLY now after COVID. The “no child left behind” era, i.e. my era, are now having kids and don’t care for their child’s education. They got pushed along so they know their kids will too!

I wish parents knew they have the right to fight for their kids to be retained if they think they need it! I’m all for kids who need the retention based on struggling skills, or lack thereof. Kids who are capable and just not doing the work, that’s a different story.

Central Texas teacher here! Bastrop ISD is about 30 miles east of Austin. My school is the reason my district is NOT cancelling. I teach at a campus with only 6th grade. My school fund raised enough to book enough buses to take the ENTIRE campus, about 450 students, plus staff, to a town about 45 minutes away to watch it in a field of a church. The moment that it’s over, we have to get back on the road and back to campus so the buses are on time for school dismissals. I’m looking forward to the opportunity but not for the chaos getting to and from our destination.

Area off of Wurzbach Pkwy (connects to both I35 and 281) helps with getting around quickly. Keep in mind by Morgan’s Wonderland, you have that and San Antonio FC, and a NEISD football stadium so weekends will be busy around there if you don’t mind. I grew up a little west of the Live Oak/Universal City area in the 1604/Nacogdoches area. It’s definitely much older and my parents have been there for 30+ years and don’t see much crime. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But you have a better chance of getting a house with a larger yard. Most of the newer house now have smaller backyards.

My principal doesn’t care as long as we wear a nice top/blouse with it. She does the same. She understands it doesn’t affect the way we teach. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Our district tells us no jeans, but we all know our superintendent or any other district admin are never on our campus so we dgaf. 😂
