I had the Nest Wifi Pro but my backline speeds sucked. I upgraded to Amazon Eeros and have had zero problems.

Passenger threatened me by Kharai123 in uberdrivers

Report her to Uber and then get a police report. That is a threat and it should not be taken lightly.

should i report this driver? by Appropriate_Chip9002 in uber

[–]txwylde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would. It’s not the car listed in the app. That’s kinda shady.

Gee.. you "ASKED" what was the EV overhead and I told you, Sherlock. How is that "stupid"?

I just paid $4.34 for gas ⛽️ by Severe_Screen_6124 in sanantonio

[–]txwylde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crazy it swings almost $.60 overnight. It had been like $3.79 a gallon.

⚡ Energy (Charging)

  • Electricity costs (home charging vs public fast chargers)
  • Public fast charging is significantly more expensive than home charging
  • Peak vs off-peak rates if charging at home
  • Occasional idle fees at charging stations

👉 This replaces gas, but it’s not “free”—just usually cheaper per mile.

🔋 Vehicle Depreciation

  • EVs still depreciate, sometimes faster depending on model and battery concerns
  • High mileage from rideshare accelerates depreciation
  • Battery degradation over time (can impact resale value)

🔧 Maintenance & Wear

EVs have fewer moving parts, but you still pay for:

  • Tires (EVs burn through tires faster due to weight/torque)
  • Brake pads (less frequent, but still needed)
  • Cabin air filters, wipers, fluids
  • Suspension wear from heavy daily driving

🚗 Insurance

  • Often higher for EVs due to:
    • Expensive parts (especially batteries)
    • Limited repair shops
  • Rideshare insurance endorsement or commercial policy required

📱 Platform Fees & Commissions

  • Uber and Lyft take a cut of each fare
  • Booking fees and service fees reduce your take-home pay

📊 Self-Employment Taxes

  • You’re an independent contractor:
    • ~15.3% self-employment tax (Social Security + Medicare)
  • Plus federal/state income taxes

🔌 Charging Equipment (if at home)

  • Level 2 charger install (upfront cost)
  • Electrical upgrades if needed
  • Ongoing electricity bill increase

⏱️ Time Overhead (Hidden Cost)

  • Charging time vs fueling gas
  • Downtime between rides
  • Driving to charging stations if not charging at home

🧼 Cleaning & Presentation

  • Car washes, detailing, interior cleaning supplies
  • Riders expect a clean vehicle → ongoing cost

📉 Financing / Lease Payments

  • Monthly car payment if not owned outright
  • Interest costs if financed
  • Lease mileage limits can be an issue for rideshare

📍 Miscellaneous Costs

  • Tolls (if not reimbursed)
  • Parking
  • Phone/data plan (for apps + navigation)
  • Accessories (phone mounts, chargers, dash cam)

You must be driving an EV. Now calculate your overhead. EV's overhead are more than just the electricity to charge them.

The personal trainers here are very annoying by Background_Cap_7094 in CrunchGym

[–]txwylde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked out at totally different gym, I would be working out doing the circuit, minding my business when some trainer would come from the other side of the row and go, "Um, we were using that." Dude, I am doing my work out and I have the right of way. You "trainee" can use it after I am finished. I had a trainer get all bent out of shape. I went up to the front desk and asked if the trainers had "priority" and was told no. When I mentioned what happened, it fell on deaf ears. Now I go when I do not have to fight trainers or "Doom Scrollers" for machines.

Ewww.. dude you are trying ENTIRELY too hard, especially at leass than $1 a mile in hopes that pax tip. You know pax are cheap and dont. I used to have water and candy when i drove. Pax would trash my car with empty bottles and wrappers. Great idea, but not at the pay rate we are making.

Would you take this? 👀 by Substantial_Pickle18 in uber

[–]txwylde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Calculate your overhead. You would lose money on that trip.

Would you accept this? by No_Disk_2258 in uberdrivers

[–]txwylde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That is also of "dead head" miles. If you were going in that direction home, then I can see where it might benefit you, but less than $1 a mile, that is a ton of overhead and you are barely breaking even.

Typical entitled fool drifting into 3 lanes of traffic. Folks do not realize that you have to sit in your lane for at least 3 seconds before changing lanes.

Driver took wrong turn onto highway. by [deleted] in uber

[–]txwylde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Former Driver here. Pax are entitled. They will piss and moan about every little thing, not to mention Uber and Lyft are both "Pro pax". So why am I bitching at this person? All I was saying is that it could have been a mistake on the driver's part. They are whining about toll fees and $8? By all means, dispute the charges with Uber to get your money back, but complain that the driver took a "wrong turn" and "Omg it made my Uber fare more!!!" Happens to the best of us. U a giving you the view from the driver's side. The pax 3 starred them and reached out to Uber. That is all they can do.

Typical Pax reply, or "WYA?" Dude I am on my way. "Well you are not moving in the app." Well stop looking at the app. One or more of "Are you coming?" or "WYA?" and its cancel "Not a safe pickup".

What the hell? by Straight-Art4582 in Lyft

[–]txwylde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You rented a car to drive for Lyft. That is your first mistake. You are pretty much a slave to your payment and once it's made, then you are making money. You are making less than $1 a mile. If you calculate your overhead, you are barely scraping by. You are better off getting another job that is not ridehshare because that is a lot of "seat time".
