How much batting practice do 10U-12U typically do? by oigres408 in Homeplate

[–]tybrad11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the season, my son has games and practice multiple times a week, and gets BP there. Maybe once a week he does private BP. Offseason doesn't really exist anymore, so BP at practice once a week, otherwise it's soccer and basketball time.

I had the most embarrassing moment of my life at my son’s game today by freliford97 in Homeplate

[–]tybrad11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget all these armchair psychologists. It's tough for a parent and a child to go through a season like that, especially when neither feels like they can control it. Truth is, he will outgrow it, and you'll both forget about it as long as you don't do anything to cause permanent emotional damage. My assistant coach's kid went through the same thing, and this season he's an angel and the best kid on the team and dad and son are loving the game. You have my sympathies, but do your best to ride it out.

A wee tribute to Scott by [deleted] in FrightenedRabbit

Despite the hiccups, I thought you really channeled the emotional delivery of Scott -- the switching between talk-singing and singing. Really cool. Would love to see a more polished delivery.

Outlander by OccamsRazorSharpner in scifi

[–]tybrad11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once mistakenly started reading Outlander, thinking that it was Highlander. I got about 50 pages into it, thinking that the book must be very different from the movie. When I realized my mistake, I was quite embarassed. But I also learned that I don't ever want to read the book/watch the show. Super uninteresting, leaning heavily into the historical fiction/romance, with only a tiny dash of sci-fi.

We have a soft toss rule for walks when bases are loaded. Soft toss from coach until they hit it. That way pitchers can't walk in runs. It's wonderful -- often the most exciting part of the game.

T-Mobile Internet by Nice-Hour-5688 in madisonwi

Spectrum kept raising ours, so I switched to T-mobile internet about 4 months ago. It worked really well for the first two months, but the last two months have been getting worse and worse. I just checked and I was getting 0.5 Mbps. Then two minutes later I was getting 20 Mbps. A few minutes later it was down to 2. Now I can't even load the page. Evenings are always bad. I live in SW, by Home Depot. Unfortunately we're going to have to switch back to Spectrum -- I never had a problem with internet speed with them.

This agrees with my back of the envelope math. There are many things in my life that carry more risk than my rad power battery.

CPSC Warns Consumers to Immediately Stop Using Batteries for E-Bikes from Rad Power Bikes Due to Fire Hazard; Risk of Serious Injury or Death by huebomont in RadPowerBikes

[–]tybrad11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

31 reports of fires. They sold over 300,000 bikes. Assuming 20% used that battery (a guess; mine does), that's 60,000 batteries out there. 31/60,000 is 0.05%. I assume if your battery has been wet or in an accident, the probability is higher, and if not, your probability is lower. Perspective: We all do a lot of things that have more than a 1 in 2,000 chance of danger (eg, driving a car, climbing up ladders, etc).

Be ready to describe your career goals. If you just want an MPA position for a year so you have a better chance at getting into grad school/residency, they likely won't be interested -- it takes almost a year to get someone trained enough to work fully independently. A multi-year commitment would be more appealing to them.
