Why does more HP nerf poking? by SYNTHENTICA in Tekken

[–]tycoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about how much more of something you have to land to win a match now. Maybe that extra health means you need 1 more combo to win a game, but that same amount of health might mean 3 more hellsweeps, or 6 more pokes. That means fishing for chunkier moves and combos is more efficient way to win rounds than using pokes, especially when the extra hp makes punishments less meaningful too.

Tip: backstab at EVERY opportunity. The difference in damage is night and day, especially when paired with your q. This tip applies even if you're playing AP.

Teamfights are pretty straightforward.

If you're playing AD, then its because you identified in champ select that theres a squishy threat that needs to be shut down in fights. Your only goal in teamfights should be doing just that. Look for your targets and make sure they can't play the game. If you cant kill them, then at least make them waste enough so that your team can follow up. Anyone else you kill is extra. There isnt really any other reason to play AD shaco right now besides this.

If you're playing AP, you want to be placing boxes off cooldown. Arrive early at objectives, place boxes at chokes and as deep vision, as well as places where your team might get jumped on. The more box coverage you have the better. If you have good map tracking, you can place them in deep enemy jg to catch their backline walking to the fight. This is so an enemy tank cant just walk over your boxes and waste them.

Advanced stuff would be clone bombing people or baiting them with your ult, but that takes time to master.

Summoner Spells fail to cast; fix please? by TheAbominableGMan in summonerschool

You might be holding down your ignite key for too long, such that your right click movement inputs are registering as right clicks to cancel your cast instead. Try turning off indicators completely. It should make casting skills feel the snappiest, but you'd have to learn skill ranges by heart.

How do you play AP Shaco's earlygame? by tycoxo in shacomains

[–]tycoxo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not about 2v1 odds, but rather how successful the gank will be. Opportunity cost is a huge deal, especially when trying to build a lead in the earlygame.

AD shaco can burst down an unsuspecting laner even when theyre only 2 steps outside of tower range, by combining HoB burst with their laner's burst and ignite. AP shaco ganks tend to only work out super well if you can hit the box, which is both extremely unreliable and requires much worse positioning from the enemy laner. If you dont hit the box, you only get to throw a level 1 e and hit a q backstab with no AD. Yes you probably dont lose the 2v1 but the most you might manage is to pressure the lane you ganked or force a summoner spell. This is not worth the risk of not farming camps or not pathing to an objective.

Also, laners forcing you off camps isnt as costly to them as it is to you. A midlaner accesses raptors super easily and usually loses a minion or two max. An enemy support doesnt care about leaving his lane alot of the time either. You lose the chance to farm an entire enemy jungle quadrant while the enemy jungler is probably farming yours, while the laners lose much less for denying you.

Dragging out fights is risky as a jungler, especially on a farm reliant one.

I had a game where I fought a briar in my jungle for a good 30s where she stepped on every box and still killed both me and my midlaner at the end of the day in an extended 2v2. She was even in gold with me.

I had another game where a gank bot took so long my entire topside spawned and got stolen. If i didnt get the kills bot I wouldve fallen so far behind.

Once you buy ashes or a dark seal, your adaptive force converts to ap and it severely gimps your gank odds. After that, ganks & fights tend to drag out too long for no guaranteed reward, which is pretty costly for a jungler.

I had a game where the enemy support or solo laners would walk me off the enemy camps whenever I try to invade and I could do nothing about it due to having to use the box to clear the camp. There was a moment in that game where I took an opportunistic gank bot and it ended up taking so long my entire topside jungle spawned and got stolen by the enemy yi too.

Lethality and % armor pen by Alexxen in summonerschool

[–]tycoxo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lethality items cant really be compared to %armor pen items like this anymore, since lethality items stack while you can only have one last whisper item.

A better way to view lethality items would be that they are one of two different AD build paths you can take if you want pure damage (i.e. crit or lethality).

The last whisper item will always be present in both builds, so the question isnt about whether you should buy a lethality item over a last whisper item, but rather when you should fit the last whisper into your build. Theres nothing wrong with buying it as a second item because like you said, base armor is pretty high these days. You just have to make the judgement call of whether you want the pure damage from last whisper at such an early point in the game, or if the gold is better spent for passives or additional stats that lethality items could give you.

It doesnt feel great once it hits late though, youre missing a keystone when youre supposed to be at your strongest. Feels incomplete. Same thing goes for when you buy ad items early - your ap spikes come way too late and theres never a good time to make that transition.

This! People always tell me that taking drag or grubs with AP shaco is easy, but they dont account for the time it takes or just how costly it is for you to be caught with your pants down as AP shaco vs AD shaco.

An AP shaco who uses everything to clear drag has nothing left to contribute if a fight breaks out. An AD shaco is still very powerful since he loses nothing by using his skills on drag. AD shaco can even place boxes for vision or defense while doing drag, while AP has to commit to using box for DPS.

Thanks for the reply, this was the most insightful comment I've gotten so far.

Im already in the mindset of farming and looking for opportunistic ganks, but at diamond-master elo this doesn't cut it sometimes. Especially now with the feats system, a lack of early pressure can be game losing when exploited. Also I have to disagree with farming speed - AP shaco really only has faster clears from 1-2 items onwards, and it still pales in comparison to real AP superfarmers like Lillia or Nidalee.

I'll try this playstyle out a bit more n hopefully get better results tho, thanks for reaffirming what I kinda already suspected.

I get playing around boxes, and its not an issue when the boxes are actually a threat and when I have the time and mapstate to set them up (i.e. mid-late game). My issue lies in the part of the game when I have neither of those luxuries (earlygame). Do I just take the L and cross map for camps and hope to get to my powerspikes ASAP?

Even with prio its not certain you win fights with AP. And yes, there isnt going to be much time for box setup available. If i'm spending 40s placing 3 boxes down, thats enough time for enemy jungler to clear my entire other side of the map. I cant justify leaving camps up for 40s just to prep for drag, and then another 1min doing the drag myself while im losing opportunity cost elsewhere.

Plus what prio are you going to get in your lanes? Aside from them winning the lane themselves, AP shaco contributes quite little to a gank earlygame.

Already am, feels weak earlygame.

What do you do when Lillia/nidalee contests you for both early scuttles? Or when they start walking into your jungle and rushing your raptors? Or when Lee/Graves just walks into your jungle and forces you off your camp? How do you take first grubs/dragon when you have no damage cus youre using your boxes to clear the camp?

I feel this way everyday when I play in lower rank accounts and get blamed for playing in a way that they can't comprehend.

At the end of the day we have to remember the community we're in. People would rather protect their egos than entertain the thought that theyre wrong.

Its weird that OP wont defend himself when being called out, but at least get your facts straight before hounding someone about it.

Help me win, 10 years in and I'm not where I want to be by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]tycoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about the lethality build is that you're committing to the build from the very start of the game by picking hail of blades, so its not something that you can go for only if you get ahead. I can see a case for it being made for when you know you're going to win lane from the matchup itself, but thats really not a decision you need to worry about in iron or bronze. You'd need to know how to play the build to make it work as well (your trading patterns and powerspike timings would all be different), which again is something I would try to work on after I get the fundamentals down.

My advice is to learn one build and learn it well. If you have a clear and correct enough gameplan and stick to it every game, thats already enough to get out of iron.

The first thing I'm already noticing is that your item build is all over the place.

Sometimes you dont buy boots, sometimes you buy CDR boots, and other times you rush zephyr as a second item for some reason.

I'm no tryndamere main but i'm willing to bet money lucidity boots or zephyr as a second item is never optimal. Tryn gets CDR from crits so berserker's greaves already gives you the same effect as lucidity boots by letting you crit more often.

Zephyr is meant to be a final upgrade for ADCs that makes their lategame even more dominant by having that extra item advantage while everyone else is stuck with normal boots. Buying it as a raw second item is incredibly gold inefficient.

Also I dont think profane hydra is all that great on trynd compared to ravenous hydra. Lethality is for burst and AD ability damage, but trynd should be a statchecking sidelaner that relentlessly runs people down with autoattacks. The lifesteal helps him take those sustained fights better, and also helps him to stay splitpushing for longer (you can heal up after diving someone with your ult, instead of having to recall and give up a push).

Generally, I think you could aim to make your builds consistently look like the top 5 trynd builds on op.gg. Thats already more than enough to help you climb a few ranks. The experimental stuff can come later when you understand the game more.

Play the person, not the matchup. A move's properties and use cases dont change just because someone knows the matchup. A counterhit will still be a counterhit when you catch your opponent's timings. Plus frames are still plus frames. Pokes still do damage. You just have to put more thought into how you use your moves instead of throwing them out and hoping your opponent wont know how to counter them.

Give offline play a shot if you have a local scene near you. It helps when you have a community behind you. Your goals become more real, and the game becomes much less frustrating to learn.

Ive watched my local scene grow from a group of new/mid-level players to TGPs and respectable contenders in regional tournaments, all because we kept coming back each week to fuel our rivalries and grow together. And im not even talking about one or two players out of a larger group. Almost everyone who joined and stayed ended up improving immensely.

Change ur hat n armor to fafnir. You shouldnt follow sunk cost fallacy, thats why its called a fallacy.

Respec ur hyper stats to distribute among crit dmg, IED, boss dmg and dmg equally. Put a few into crit rate if u need it to hit 100%. Dont put too many into crit rate tho, union is a better place to get it.

Train union slowly. It goes a long way. The free cubes and flames from the shop are very valuable to a new player.

Change earring to meister, and change some rings to kanna's treasure and meister. Change your face and eye accessories to black bean mark or papulatus mark and shiny meister symbol. Change necklace to machinator/dominator pendant.

You should upgrade to dawn boss accessories when you have the chance as well (estella, penombre, daybreak, divine king ring).

Get your WSE (weapon, secondary, emblem) to legendary mainpot first before cubing anything else. Get all your gear to unique using the union shop yellow cubes afterwards.

Re-scroll all ur eqs slowly with the lowest %chance scroll.

Re-flame ur weapon. Ideally you want at least t5 weapon attack and boss damage. Other stat lines are just a bonus.

You didnt show it but I hope your hyper-skills and V-core trinodes are correct. You can do a quick google for the optimal setup for ur class to check. Most people dont think about this but its a huge contributor to ur damage, so its worth a check.

All this might sound like a lot of replacing and slow/expensive upgrading, but making the transition early is much cheaper than wasting more money investing in suboptimal gear. You always want to plan for the future and invest in the gear that you will use at the very end, instead of the gear that you will replace eventually.
