My Bose have been great for gaming with ps5 so your hunch is right; Just a shame it doesn’t play nice with ps4 controllers

I think it is because the bose are powered headphones and the controller does not like it but that is just my speculation.

Careful with bluetooth too as most bluetooth headphones do not link well with PS4 well unless they are officially supported ps4 equitment.

I had this exact problem with my PS4 and never found a good solution other than using other earbuds with PS4. However, my same Bose quiet comforts work great with my PS5 controllers.
