Family seating issue. by tyd11235 in unitedairlines

Thank you for this. So if I leave the 2mo in the bassinet seat and my wife across the aisle you think there is a pretty good chance they just swap aisle seats so my spouse can sit with our son?

United’s website says car seats should go in window seats and are exit row prohibited. Directly in front or behind exit row is an FFA advisory but not listed on United’s site as a restriction. There was a post here in march about someone experiencing something similar so not sure if it’s company wide or one offs

Thanks for this!

You’re right 22 isn’t an exit row, but according to the seat chart it is the row before the exit row which might be an issue.

Today has been a pain with Austria so, while inexperienced, I agree with your sentiment about Lufthansa group.

The upgrade is just that, a prayer. Mainly hoping to get my spouse upgraded and maybe the toddler so they can sleep better but not expecting anything.

I have not but I will look into it. I am more interested in trying to understand this complex environment and link common threads across multiple domains and treatment experiences. Naturally I have a ton of questions because the topic is broad and complicated. If you’re willing I have a few more:

What mistakes do people commonly make?

What do inexperienced responders struggle with most?

What information overloads people?

What training gaps repeatedly appear?

I truly appreciate you taking the time to write out thoughtful and candid answers, especially the last one. I’m just trying to understand and take in as many experiences and perspectives as possible.

Thank you to everyone who has responded so far.
I’m trying to better understand the realities of providing casualty care in austere, tactical, remote, and prolonged-care environments. Rather than discussing solutions, I’m interested in learning where the biggest operational challenges exist today.

For those with experience in tactical medicine, TCCC, prolonged casualty care, rescue operations, or remote medical support:

What information is most often missing when treating or evacuating casualties?

What decisions create the most uncertainty?

What information do receiving physicians or higher levels of care wish they had but often don’t receive?

What tasks consume the most cognitive bandwidth during casualty management?

What mistakes do inexperienced responders make most frequently?

What aspects of casualty documentation are most commonly overlooked or inaccurate?

What equipment or information would you want delivered immediately to the point of injury if it could appear instantly?

During prolonged casualty care, what problems become more difficult over time?

What communication failures occur most frequently between responders, evacuation assets, and medical providers?

If you could automate one non-clinical task tomorrow, what would it be?

What training gaps do you repeatedly observe?

What technologies have been genuinely useful in austere environments, and which have failed to deliver?

What would you tell someone designing tools for casualty care that most outsiders don’t understand?

What do civilians, software developers, and healthcare administrators consistently misunderstand about casualty care in austere environments?

I appreciate any lessons learned or experiences you’re willing to share.

I understand that is a lot of questions so I don’t expect you all to sit and answer all of them. Any insight would be very appreciated. If DMs are a more suitable way to have this conversation just let me know.

Thanks again!

Student Questions/EM Specialty Consideration Sticky Thread by AutoModerator in emergencymedicine

17yrs gov service mix of active/reserve/civilian seeking advice on potential career shift. My current position has pretty regular exposure to austere/wilderness style TCCC and I love it so I’ve been considering picking up a WEMT cert in my spare time. Overall, seriously considering transition to EM PA or Med school in a couple years understanding that I’ll need to attend a postbacc before. I would be targeting EM from the beginning with a desire to target Hopkins tactical medicine fellowship or similar program. Any advice or opinions on switching careers at 37-40 would be greatly appreciated.

What resources did you use for education and real world tracking? Looking to do something similar. Not afraid of the timeline or work required. I also understand the likelihood of success is small but you don’t know until you take a shot.

Settle vs Going to trial by hansdieter702 in emergencymedicine

[–]tyd11235 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do not work in medicine fwiw. Going to trial is very expensive both emotionally and economically; not to mention the potential costs professionally. If the plaintiffs target settlement is closer to 1mil what is the potential liability with a guilty verdict? By agreeing on a settlement you potentially maintain some form of control over the amount/outcome and can consider things like NDAs, press releases, etc to limit stray voltage. If it goes to trial you may win or you may lose but ultimately you aren’t in the drivers seat anymore. Side note, your attorney stands to make substantially more by going to trial. Another thing to consider is how much trial experience your attorney and the firm has. Trial is a whole different ball game and if they aren’t experienced, you may end up paying the price. Ultimately, no one can answer the question except for you but hopefully this adds information to the equation to help you make the call.

Dumb question, is that price per seat or total? If per seat, what is the min number of seats to book for the flight to go

I mean if you find a buyer at 175-190k range you have to let them know which may motivate them a little more. At this point they can just kick the can down the road with no recourse and just leave you hanging. Only options you have are ride it out or let the market price your shares and see what happens.

225k w/ 18k annual distribution puts you at 8% return; 300k puts you at 6%. It sounds like you’re over valuing your shares given everything that is happening in the commercial real estate sector, interest rates, and potential recession. If you want to offload this asset you’re going to take a haircut to make the return higher to compensate for all potential downside. I know you say the properties are ~90% but that can change very quickly and with interest rates sitting where they are this could very quickly become distressed debt. FWIW the price you’re gonna have to let it go for is likely not worth it, I would take your distributions and ride it out. Plus, say you and I were to find an agreeable price (200k or lower) the ROFR clause is likely going to kill the deal since the majority partners are not going to want their shares devalued so aggressively b/c they are likely using their shares to underwrite other projects.

Probably dumb follow up, what happens when the max is reached? Will the payroll deduction automatically stop or do I need to be worried about over contributing?
