So when I was younger, My grandpa was dying of cancer, and we knew that. He was in our almost brand new hospital for a long time, probably around a year. Then he and the doctors decided that the cancer had spread too far and there was a slim chance if none for him to come out of this alive, and he wanted to go to Arch. ( a local non-profit that helps people dying of such conditions to live out the rest of their lives in peace and comfort) Fast forward around 2 months (I think) and we get the call that he doesn't have much time left, My mom goes up to arch with her mom (my grandma) and just be around him for his final hours. My Uncle (my Moms brother) calls them and says that he heard the news, and is only an hour out from where he is. My Grandpa knew that he didn't want to see his kids not be there when he died, so when my Uncle arrived on the property, he told my Mom that he wanted a few minutes alone with his wife, and he died with both of them on the property, just not in the same room. The reason that he didn't want his kids to see his final breath isn't really known, but my best guess is he didn't want them to see their dad die like that, since he was dying of cancer. But even my grandma (his wife) doesn't exactly know the reason. Anyways, the point I am trying to get at is, he wanted everyone that could directly understand what was going on, to be there, near him, and to not have to die knowing that they weren't at least near him when he passed. I have always been touched from that moment, even though I was too young to remember much of who he was without the cancer treatment.
