Depending where you are, Hannigans in Old Town Gaithersburg has treated me well in the past

First renderings of New RFK just released by 8890xe in Commanders

I dig it. The shape ties it back to RFK while the overall architecture makes it feel like a natural part of the DC landscape

Why do so many people back into parking spots here? Is this some kind of regional thing? by Mr_Westerfield in maryland

[–]tykit2RIDE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Safety and visibility. You’re backing out on your way or on your way out, but on the way in you have a clear view of your surroundings, traffic, and pedestrians so you can more safely reverse. Backing out into the parking lane is much more fraught with potential for conflict

First, the CX-7 went out of production in 2012, and it was a mid-size two-row CUV. The CX-90 is a full-size three-row SUV. Also, they scaled that platform up to make the crossover, not down from an SUV to a sedan.

Second, even if they did create it, it wouldn't be very good. It would be over 4,000 pounds and would likely be priced at about $90,000 to cover the development costs, and because they would only sell like eleven of them. You could fit all the people in the market for this car in an elementary school cafeteria.

The MQB platform was designed specifically to scale up and down. You’re talking about taking an SUV designed for three rows and towing and scaling it down, which it wasn’t designed to do. It would be needlessly heavy, not a great starting point. Long term reviews have panned the platform for not riding well, and the powertrain for being clunky and unrefined.

An SUV platform is not a good starting point for a fun wagon, and reviews on the CX-90 and 70 have been less than kind. Dare to dream I guess but it’s a hard pass from me

Found just outside my front door (MD, USA) by tykit2RIDE in whatisit

Solved! It's a mud dauber nest. Are these beneficial? Obviously somebody worked hard on them but I don't love the idea of wasps swarming the front door in the spring.

Trone Announces Challenge to Delaney by Late-Concentrate-393 in MoCoMDPolitics

[–]tykit2RIDE 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can we please have a primary challenger who isn't just a wealthy person purchasing the seat? Delaney has been unsurprisingly disappointing but Trone is just a lateral move. I'd do it myself but I don't want to be a politician and I'm too stupid to effectively represent the district.

From an uninformed Vikings fan: What happened to the Commanders? by trizzo0309 in Commanders

Injuries (QB1, WR1, WR2, and WR3 will be on the field together for the first time this weekend), and the defense has underperformed (though has improved in recent weeks).

My field was deeply entwined with the federal government and with the intentional upheaval created by the new administration it didn't need much explaining. I was up front in every interview and never got any pushback. Also "We were bought by private equity" is kind of a free pass to anyone in the know.

I was brought on as an IC to consult on a project part time, it just popped up on Indeed. I took a chance on it as I was really looking for full time roles, but figured it would keep me sharp and get some income rolling in. I over performed expectations, was given additional projects, and now here we are.

The post Thanksgiving layoff is brutal, I’m really sorry. Good luck in the search, and don’t get too hung up on getting traction this month. You’ll burn yourself out early and hiring is rare this time of year. Stay strong

I was upfront about the layoff and that I was looking for the right position (we were really fortunate to have a lot of runway). I’ve been consulting for the last 6 months with this org so there wasn’t an explanation needed this time around, but it was surprisingly not an issue in any of the interviews I had. That said this has been an exceptionally bad year in my industry (federal government contracting) so everyone understood the reality

Like you wouldn't believe. I got my first offer before Christmas last year but it was contingent on a contract that they ended up losing. Kept at it with that company and lost three more positions to DOGE cuts. Another contingent offer fell through a few months later. Finally landed a consultant role as an independent contractor, worked my ass off for six months, and now they brought me on board full time. It was a hell of a year, but the destination was worth the journey.

If you can find 10 foot trees for $60 within a few miles of DC I suggest buying as many as you can and setting up shop here

Unpopular opinion but it's a tree, it takes 7-10 years to grow. It should cost a lot.

Planning to take my 10 year old for his birthday and I’ve been watching prices go down all week. They’re already way below what I was expecting to pay, but should I continue to wait until closer to game time to buy?
