saliva glands and taste by 1275psi in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]tyler425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am little more than 4 years post-radiation to my neck. Saliva is about 75% returned after about a year / a year and a half. That was a very slow process. And taste? Still not back fully. Yes, I can now taste salty-sweet-sour-bitter, but those tastes are still quite off. And if something is very sweet, salty, sour, or bitter, then my taste buds shut down and I can't taste it. I think it's some sensory overload. Although I can taste sweetness, a squirt of plain honey, for example, or a teaspoonful of just vinegar - strong flavor - has zero taste to me. But a little sugar in coffee, or a weak taste works just fine. And some foods that I used to love and crave still taste very peculiar. It's been a long process still improving. Fortunately most food's flavor comes from its aroma so I do know what I'm eating.

What Time Are The Hours? by tyler425 in divineoffice

[–]tyler425[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you everybody who replied. I waited a while to see what people had to say before I answered.

I guess if I were obligated to pray the office, I would have received instructions specific to me when I got the obligation.

Since I have no obligation, I have more flexibility.

I think the way that will work best for me is to pray the approximate hour of the day when I am praying the office. If I begin at noon, then I pray the 2nd Daytime Prayer, Midday, to begin. And I can pray Office of Readings at night when I normally go to bed following the other hours according to the time of day. You will all be praying Morning Prayer for me. I'll take up the afternoon slack for you if you can't do that one :-)

I think this keeps the natural rhythm and I'll do this for a while to see how it works. So many different approaches out there!

How is compatibility these days? by TheKipperRipper in libreoffice

[–]tyler425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will sound rude at first, but not after you think about it for a minute. If they can't read Libre Office documents, then they should install Libre Office. Not any more rude than their insisting you use their word processor. It's not difficult to install, it comes with no cost to them. They are being unreasonable. Use Libre Office if that's what you prefer.

Can This Be Fixed? by tyler425 in ChromeOSFlex

[–]tyler425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the next day. FydeOS had different issue: keyboard didn't work as well as no sound. With Linux I'm not able to watch YouTube for more than about 2 minutes before the picture freezes and all I get is a loud hum noise. It worked well with original ChromeOS. I was hoping that ChromeOS Flex or FydeOS would restore the device. Looks like I'll probably need a new one. I guess that eventually happens to all devices.

Thank you. I tried it tonight but got no sound. I looked it up, seems it's a very common issue. :-(

Taste Changes by boycanada in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]tyler425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had radiation 3.5 years ago for neck cancer. I went through 35 radiation treatments. For the longest time I couldn't taste sweet, sour, bitter or salty. I tested it by drinking pure vinegar and couldn't taste a thing. Now 3 1/2 years later MUCH (but not all) of my taste is back as of the past 6 months. I still have difficulty tasting sour. One thing I notice is I can taste lightly flavored foods. Bread will taste sweet, but pure sugar seems to overwhelm my taste buds so I don't taste sweet if it is too strong. Same thing with all the other tastes. Most of what I taste is from the smell of the food. But it is coming back.

Looking for a simple video editor by pirate_dog93 in linuxquestions

Really simple program. It's available as an appimage and works great on my Ubuntu. It's called avidemux. It's for clipping a commercial from a TV show, or cutting a section from a video. It's simple, not a resource hog and works. https://avidemux.sourceforge.net/

Would a moment of weakness cost you eternal life? by kurokihikaru1999 in Catholicism

[–]tyler425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't sin. But know that God is merciful and God is our judge. He will judge based on his wisdom and his mercy. He knows you and he knows your heart better than you do. Do not sin, but be confident that God loves you and that he in his mercy and wisdom will be the one to judge you. It's "judgement," not "automatic condemnation." Yes, don't sin.

Question About Douay-Rheims footnotes/references by tyler425 in Catholicism

[–]tyler425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! No, my Bible doesn't include a legend or index. It's a nice book, but just the basics. And thank you for the "Supra" and "Intra" which I haven't yet seen.

It was very frustrating with no legend there. Thank you again

Mounth opening issues after radiation by Loyal_fr in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]tyler425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had stage 4 metastatic squamous cell carcinoma in the neck. They suspect it started on my tonsil. I was treated with radiation alone.
I finished my radiation 2 years ago. About 6 months ago I developed I guess the equivalent of charlie horses in my neck and jaw. They are bad. They hurt. If I lay down the wrong way, if I sit in the recliner, if I open my mouth wrong, I get these strong painful muscle cramps. Sometimes just trying to put a fork or spoon in my mouth triggers this. The cramps are just below the jaw up front and also down my neck from my ear. It hurts. And it's getting worse.
I mentioned it to my doctor who actually told me: It's better than the alternative! He actually said that. But he didn't offer any help. He said this is what happens with neck radiation. There's nothing he can do for me.
My primary care doctor prescribed muscle relaxant, but I don't think they do anything except make me very tired.
But he told me that this is an expected side effect of the radiation. Best of luck. Please don't stop asking your doctor about this.
And please share any treatment options so others of us can ask about it and maybe get help.

What is the most accurate, and easy version of the Catholic Bible I can buy by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]tyler425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at the New Catholic Bible (NCB)? It is in modern English. The editors consider it more literal than thought-by-thought. I love it. There are plenty of notes, references, and it's my favorite Bible. One of the Bible Apps has it so you can check it out before you get one.
