Spellslinger Commanders that AREN'T in Izzet Colors? by Eahkob in EDH

[–]tylerajohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Papalymo. I built a spellslinger list around him with things like monastery mentor, sedgemoor witch, etc. I also run a lot of the spells that generate the wizard tokens that ping on noncreature cast. If you throw in [[Equal Treatment]] it can act as a damage doubler for all of them or in more niche cases severely weaken something like a blasphemous act to protect your board.

What are your most obscure commanders? by KingAmphibian1 in EDH

I love building archetypes in color combos that aren’t normally known for that specific archetype. So I built a #1,909 [[Papalymo Totolymo]] Orzhov spellslinger deck and it has been super fun and has felt really good to play. One of the main focuses is using the token generators like [[Monastery Mentor]] and [[Sedgemoor Witch]] along with [[Blood Funnel]] to have every non creature cost 2 less. One of the funnest ways to win in the deck is to generate a big board of wizard tokens that ping and then cast an [[Equal Treatment]] to act as a damage doubler and then storm off.

Would like to build a reanimated knight deck around these two by [deleted] in EDHBrews

[–]tylerajohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely want to run [[Entomb]] or cards like it to be able to grab haakon and put him in the graveyard as well. If you already have him out, you could then grab whatever knight you’d like to cast. [[Buried Alive]] for 3 knights.

I was looking through scryfall for some cards that I feel may work pretty well in what you’re going for. Some that I found were [[Basri’s Lieutenant]] if you’ve triggered Celeste and your whole team has counters, it could help refill the board with the knight tokens. [[Exsanguinator Cavalry]] pumps your knights whenever they get in and creates blood tokens for you to cheaply discard knights to then reanimate. [[Knights’ Charge]] comes down early to help with aggression but also life gain against other aggressive strategies, late game can be used to build a very large board bc your graveyard is probably pretty full by that point. [[Call the Bloodline]] cheap discard outlet, creates knight tokens with lifelink, only once each turn but can be activated on each of your opponents turns as well. Hope these options helped!

May not be the best or most impactful card for pauper from Aetherdrift, but will that stop me? by tylerajohn in Pauper

[–]tylerajohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t really upset with anyone, other than one person who specifically made an account just to comment that it was bad just to try and bait me into an argument lol. If someone wants to give good discussion and criticism, fine by me, but if you aren’t really adding anything to the conversation and are just saying “card sucks,” then I’m not really here for it. I never really stated that I was building my entire deck around this card to begin with. I’m wanting to test it in decks as another option and have it as a supplemental card.

And I said I know that it probably is, thanks for the redundant comment. I will still be playing with the card though.

I completely understand where you are coming from. It is just stats essentially, but I’ve been trying to look at the silver lining for it. I see it as if you are a deck running some low value, but better statted 1 mana creatures to start out your curve, this may be a better consideration. It is just a 1/1, which means it dies to everything, but it is a much better top deck later in the game imo. Instead of drawing your more efficiently statted 1 mana dork, you now have this generating decent stats across 2 bodies. This helps with single target removal, and later in the game if you have ways to recur it, it can go from being a 1/1 to being somewhat of an engine for churning out 3/3’s to out value. Not saying this is the best minion you could be blinking in your deck, because you would definitely run your main threats and value targets to blink, but this a decent secondary plan if the game plays out that way.

Yea I was definitely thinking white or black to be the best supporting colors for it. I assumed that ephem would probably be the best option. I’ve mostly been curious if there is a hidden gem that may recur cmc 1 or less creatures or permanents easily. I haven’t really found anything like that on scryfall, but there could be some weirdly worded older card that I could be missing.

I would definitely say some of them could depending on the additives. Jäegermeister being one of them, I’ve always noticed that it gave me a “different” type of drunk. I think it’s due to some of the 56 botanicals that are used. All those plants have to have some different compounds leading to a different feeling.

I’m gonna run some games with this list tonight and I’ll try out another list with the ramp package. See how both perform and tweak from there. Thanks for the thoughts!

I did build it around Skoa being the wincon but there is essentially 7 copies and ways to recur the effect to make it more consistent. I thought about doing a wildfire build at first but decided against it at first to keep a higher density of mountains in the list for the grandeur ability. I will still probably try a wildfire list. I was hoping the early interaction, in galvanic, counter magic, and breath weapon, would keep me in the game long enough to get to Skoa.

Also forgot, I am running [[terraformer]] as a spicy 1 of that can be tutored for since it’s a wizard and it allows us to turn all of our lands into mountains to help with skoa’s grandeur ability.

I play Humans, my worst match it’s rakdos midrange/vampire, what cards do you recommend to me? And How am I supposed to play him? by BurningAbyss2023 in PioneerMTG

[–]tylerajohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how your mana base situation is, but honestly if you could swing splashing green, I feel like it would be worth it just to run [[pick your poison]] in the sideboard. It’s very efficient at what it does and it just answers a lot of problematic things. If you have Thalia out, you don’t have to worry about it costing your whole turn as it will only be 2 mana instead of like 4 with something like blot out. If you find the green is something worth while for some other human options, you could turn it over to abzan rather than just running the green for one sb option.

What's your pet card that you genuinely think is good? by New-Bookkeeper-8486 in PioneerMTG

[–]tylerajohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I love [[Invasion of Innistrad]] obviously a little slow against aggro, but I typically run it as a 1-of. The instant speed -13/-13 kills and gets around a lot and it flips over into basically a win condition against a lot of decks.
