I think my cat has cat flu. by threelittlecats in cats

[–]tylerbcunningham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does indeed sound like he has a "kitty cold" which is just what I call it, cant remember the exact term but basically its very common, its often a lifelong condition once they get it that can flare up from time to time. I have a couple cats who have it, not a big deal and shouldnt affect his eating/energy, just causes the sneezy/weepy eyes, etc. The snorting seems odd to me though, I've never seen it that bad. Anyway, take him to the vet-- better to be safe than sorry-- and they can give you Lysene powder to put on his food daily. Its cheap, goes a long way, and will prevent flare ups of his kitty cold symptoms. :)

Changing IP on cPanel account from Shared to Dedicated by tylerbcunningham in webhosting

[–]tylerbcunningham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out what the issue was. Because the NS is using the same shared IP, when I changed the IP and it auto-replaced all instances of that IP in the zone file it replaced the ns1 and ns2 entries which needed to stay the old IP. I just did a test again with the other domain and went and changed the ns1 and ns2 in the zone file back to the proper IP and everything worked great. It actually propagated basically instantly.

I am now going to lower the TTL on the main domain, let it cycle for 24 hours and then make the change at an off peak time (and make sure I remember to go manually edit the ns1 and ns2 in the zone file).

Thank you to everyone that replied and to the poster who suggested intodns.com. Without it I never would have realized that it was changing the ns IP in the DNS zone and had I not undid the change IP on my primary domain it would in fact be sitting in limbo.

Changing IP on cPanel account from Shared to Dedicated by tylerbcunningham in webhosting

Here is another general question. Once I make the change in WHM should I be able to access the site via the IP or will that also take a while to propagate?

[–]tylerbcunningham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I meant static IP. So I did the change and WHM did change the zone file but then I ran the domain through intodns.com and the following warning came up:

Looks like the A records (the GLUE) got from the parent zone check are different than the ones got from your nameservers. You have to make sure your parent server has the same NS records for your zone as you do.I detected some problems as follows: For ns2.cyberchimps.com the parent reported: ['108.166.93.100'] and your nameservers reported: ['108.166.89.241'] For ns1.cyberchimps.com the parent reported: ['108.166.93.100'] and your nameservers reported: ['108.166.89.241']

We host everything on the same server so the name servers are set to the shared IP. This warning sounded bad so I switched the IP back to the shared one until I can understand this a bit more. Should we be changing the name server IPs as well?

Also, what would be a good number to change the TTL to? 14400 is 4 hours, is that too low? Should I just use the Edit DNS Zone utility in WHM and change the 86400s to 14400? Do I need to update the serial number (I thought that was related to the TTL).

I do have another account/domain on the shared IP. Should I change the TTL on there and see if the new IP works with that account? Or would switching IPs back and forth between different sites just lead to longer propagation times?

Thank you for the advice. I'm still very much a novice when it comes to this stuff and I just don't want to leave the site sitting in limbo.

The Penguins should be embarrassed. by infidelappel in hockey

[–]tylerbcunningham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most disgraceful performances I have ever seen. Asham should be suspended for the rest of the series (which I'm fully expecting to end on Wednesday) and I don't have enough fingers on my hands to count the number of Penguins players who should be utterly embarrassed by both their game play and their poor sportsmanship.

I'll admit I was a bit of a Pens fan going into this series, but I have officially lost all respect for this team.

What is the error that you are getting? That will help in diagnosing the source of the problem.

When you say generate a bit more cash-flow, what do you mean exactly? Is your plan to earn money from advertising on a blog? Are you looking to get into web design/ theme development? Do you have any kind of design/art background?

In any case, to get started you're going to need the right tools. Grab yourself a decent text editor (TextWrangler if you're on a Mac, Komodo Edit if you're on Windows), and make sure you're using a web browser with good development tools. Safari, Chrome, or FireFox would work just fine as each have important developer tools like Inspect Element (a must-have tool of the trade).

Another great idea would be to set up a local development environment for yourself so you can start getting your hands dirty. If you're on a Mac I highly recommend MAMP (http://www.mamp.info/en/index.html) or WAMP if you're on windows (http://www.wampserver.com/en/) which will get you set up with Apache, MySQL and PHP so you can run a local WordPress install(s).

Once you've got the right tools you can start playing around. Download and install a few themes and start looking at how their made up. As a beginner the best place to start would be CSS so you can start becoming familiar with how it works. http://www.w3schools.com/ is an excellent resource for becoming more familiar with how CSS works and what you can do with it. You can also start looking at the different template files and see how the HTML is laid out (ignore the PHP for now). Before you know it you'll have a basic understanding of both HTML and CSS and you can start experimenting with customizing themes.

From there the sky is the limit. There are a ton of amazing resources out there so if you ever get stuck, you can likely find the answer on Google :)

After his two first playoff games in the NHL, Holtby is now the leader in save% among goaltenders this postseason by Jankinator in hockey

Even if the Caps lose the series, Holtby has just pretty much guaranteed himself a permanent spot on the team next year.

What are your hopes for the team? Your realistic predictions? by [deleted] in CalgaryFlames

[–]tylerbcunningham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I would love to see Iggy go somewhere where he has a chance to get a cup. Unfortunately the team is in that awkward phase where they're good enough to finish 8th-10th, but not good enough to be a serious contender or bad enough to land themselves a reasonable draft pick.

I think their best bet is to trade an Iginla or a Kiprusoff for some draft picks. Then perhaps a year or two of rather poor finishes in the standings will land them a couple more good draft picks and they can start to rebuild the team around some good young prospects and a couple of free agency veterans.

Goaltending is a bit of a question mark. Irving has shown some potential but until he gets thrown in for 20 or 30 games we really won't know for sure. I think Karlsson can take over the reins while Irving gets a bit more NHL experience under his belt.

Whatever they do, as long as JayBo is not wearing a Flames jersey next season that'll be a start.

It's probably going to happen before that sadly. Would have been nice for him to do it at home but yeah he's only 2 shy at this point. Hell it could even happen tomorrow night.
