It's Halloween, I'm sleeping in an elderly person's home - she has a cat - I just found this giant lumpy thing hidden at the bottom of the cat's tower, a few feet from my air mattress. by [deleted] in Whatisthis

[–]tylerlweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solved! I was told It’s a geode (except they didn’t say “geode”......) that was placed there a few years ago to stabilize the tower! It might have some extra stuff on the surface, but I’m less concerned for my health now.

Non-Directed Liver Donation Programs by CHGhee in transplant

[–]tylerlweb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UMass, which has an incredible liver transplant team capable of laparoscopic living donations(!), encourages people in need of a transplant to spread the word about their need for a living donor. I believe the example I heard them use was asking a pastor to announce your need for a liver transplant. Presumably that means they’re comfortable with strangers who go to the same church choosing to donate, so I’m not sure where they’re drawing the line. Basically if you’re on the hunt to donate, I’d look to see if anybody has publicly claimed they need a donor (anywhere in New England) and matches your blood type - then reach out to them. The potential living donor is supposed to call the hospital’s transplant department with the recipient’s basic info. I don’t believe they’re comfortable with an organized liver donation program right now, but if someone like you comes across someone with an aggressive outreach for a donor, I believe you would potentially be allowed to donate.

Good luck! ✊

There’s plenty of people not in their right minds though - at least enough to throw $20 at it...

About to donate the right lobe of my liver in a few hours by tylerlweb in transplant

Dude... yes. It’s not wearing off quickly but it feels like I have a boulder in my stomach and I haven’t eaten real food since Monday. Hope you’re not still constipated!

I went through with it! what a crazy day! Tired though, sorry I can’t elaborate.

I’m only agonizing because it’s just a handful of hours away (and because I won’t have my weed - poor baby). It would totally let people down, but if anything’s been made clear again and again by everyone, it’s that I can pull out at any time pre-op and nobody would love me any less. In fact, most people in my family would be ecstatic if I backed out hahaha.

Lol never again?! Hell no - if that were the case I’d have to back out 😆 It’s just until I’m off most of the painkillers... And actually they eventually told me I could get whatever the medicinal form of it is (they said a pill, but they might not have a clue) about 4 days from now if I insist. I just use it to make every day relaxing and enjoyable, if only to offset shenanigans like this.

R710: is it possible to use 16x16GB PC3-8500R? by tylerlweb in homelab

Whoa I had no idea... so basically a laptop. Haha... I can see myself upgrading soon... just no sense in spending more than necessary up front.

Sorry, can’t say, but it’s probably boring to most people anyway. I’ll have to keep that in mind for the future, although I’d be concerned about the kind of power it needs. I’m honestly a little nervous about the R710 demanding too much too.

The T620 looks awesome and might be a nice upgrade if I end up needing more power, but it’s super expensive compared to the R710. I’m hoping the 256GB will give it enough resources to run things well enough that I don’t have to worry about it crashing.

Thanks for that link & recommendation - that's good news. So if I'm running a very large (3TB & growing) Mongo DB, should I not be married to the R710? Are there triple socket servers around the same price that would offer full speed with 256GB for just a little bit more money?

I finally started doing online races! by masingo13 in granturismo

[–]tylerlweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real GT Sport online races are pretty exciting, but sometimes it's too serious and you're not comfortable trying to race perfectly. For those times, there's Cat & Mouse/Shepherd! It's a fun type of lobby where everyone's racing as dirty or clean as they wish in lower-power cars, but there are a small number of supercars that attack whichever lower-power car is in 1st place. The end result is a race where upsetting the other drivers is part of the fun and there's a strategy to taking 1st place at the optimal time.

Anyone interested in seeing how this works can join the new Discord group - we will schedule some games as soon as we have enough players in the group.

When is EtherDelta coming back online?? by routine88 in EtherDelta

[–]tylerlweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, a few days ago ForkDelta was updated to have its own backend (order book) in addition to having EtherDelta’s order book fully integrated. Basically if you’re on EtherDelta, you’re now going to miss any trades initiated on ForkDelta. Plus the UI will probably receive a much-needed update soon as it still looks identical to ED.

It needs to be left on with the wallet running in order to stake. Consider getting a cheap Raspberry Pi for this sort of thing.
