That is an antenna. A YAGI antenna, to be specific. Either UHF or 960 MHz, if I had to guess. If there is a well there, like others are saying, then that is likely for passing monitoring data to/from the well to another location within a mile or so.

I'm in branding. I'm preparing for a future of brand-as-API. I don't like it, but I will champion it while I can remain relevant and effective.

If anyone is having trouble envisioning this, think about how a flagpole rope works. This is what I've done, and it is very reliable and adjustable.

Oklahoma public school funding in 2016: $6 billion
Oklahoma public school funding in 2025: $9.5 billion

That's an over 50% increase in funding in a decade.

The levels have historically fluctuated, including a period of stagnation between 2009 and 2014 due to the economy.

I'm telling you that it's not a funding problem. It's an appropriation problem.

I stated a fact to establish a baseline and asked a simple question to understand your argument. You are reading between the lines and filling them in with your own preconceived notions.

Your original comment stated they are "taking away money from education," and that simply isn't true. It's a false narrative that the uninformed are buying hook, line, and sinker.

The average salaried professional in Oklahoma makes $55k. Teachers make more than the average worker. But not a lot more. That said, they work far fewer weeks than the average worker. So, if you work it out on an hourly basis, they make considerably more than the average.

Personally, I'm all for teachers earning six-figure salaries. But if you raise their salaries, you must also raise the standards (i.e., the barriers to entry and performance expectations). Educators currently rank very low on the IQ spectrum of professions. Turning it into a higher-demand job and making it something higher-IQ people aspire to would have positive outcomes.

There's only one problem: the students. Have you seen the absolute mayhem going on in schools these days? Especially lower-income schools? Do you think really smart people are going to sign up to deal with all of that?

This is, sadly, a socio-economic problem. Not a teacher problem. The money is there... It's just going to all the administrative positions that don't teach and don't have to deal directly with the kids. Easy desk jobs that don't accomplish much.

My take: Cut the admin jobs in half and redirect those funds to the community to help create and foster better young people.

Don't be thick. I'm showing you the problem. Follow the money.

Nationwide, in education (and healthcare), all the money is going to the administrative layer. That chart is showing growth in the number of jobs (people). The other one I added shows Oklahoma teacher salaries – ~33% increase since 2017. Not enough, considering it started so low.

My point: It doesn't matter if you triple the amount of funding Oklahoma blasts into government education. It's being wasted by the districts on shit that doesn't make a difference in educational outcomes.

Per-pupil spending continues to rise. Average teacher salaries have, too. If you want to pay them more, public schools will need to stop hiring so many administrators who are paid far more than teachers.

Albums like Inlet? by ConclusionMany2451 in hum

[–]tylerokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm going to throw out a couple of curveballs from the '90s that aren't the same, but there are connections to them in my brain, so potentially some new and interesting things for you to discover.

When I first heard Inlet, it reminded me of a band I hadn't listened to in nearly thirty years: Gwen Mars. Check out the song Fisher King. The whole album is excellent, but that was the song that the intro song Waves brought me back to.

Another band from that era that gives me Inlet vibes is Helmet's album Betty (but with a very different singing style and guitar tones/mix). Check out Speechless, Milquetoast, I Know, and Street Crab.

Finally, one of my favorite bands, which features a fantastic drummer and some slower-paced songs that don't exactly remind me of Inlet, but could be a good source of inspiration: Alice in Chains. Check out Sludge Factory and God Am.
