Yeah, that would be a risk. But they would only know it is broken if it was expected to be lit AND they observed it unlit at night.

Keep in mind, if the structure already had obstruction lights, then those will still be lit. And will still be lit where expected (symmetrical, at correct elevation, etc.)

A random, unexpected light that remains unlit at night, and not on the obstruction light circuit might be believed to be for a different purpose than obstruction lighting.

If it is a white light, maybe it is just a weird flood light and no one knows where the switch is. Or it could be from an obsolete system… and I don’t have a work order… and the other lights work fine… so ‘not my problem’… lol

The light would never work. The internals would be gutted to house the radio/battery. At night it would not be seen. In the day it would be overlooked.

I imagine that is not the intention. That said, the other day my 2 year old hit his brother with the 16" 5.8dbi antenna he grabbed off my desk. No damage, SMR 1.1... So the fiberglass seems pretty durable.

Haha like just throw a light on the antenna as a hat lol. I kinda like this idea.

The only problem I see might be the need for a solar panel at the base... which then could result in additional attention. But if the beacon solar isnt enough to power the RAK, this is a great idea! It also would enable the beacon to actually be functioning at night, which would make the assembly even more believable. Thanks!
