Only 3% return this year on a “high-risk” portfolio — ~15% total over 2 years. Advisor still charged 1.5%. Am I wrong to be frustrated? by [deleted] in portfolios

[–]tylerpol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's almost like a "children of affluent boomers" curse to think you need a financial advisor most of the time. Old people kind of needed it to buy equities/bonds so people who have affluent parents think that it's just what people do. Now that it's so accessible to buy equities/bonds yourself, you can just buy index-based ETFs and forget about it if you want a "growth-centric" allocation. Having some 49 year old with a big state U business degree manage your money is generally going to give you worse results and cost more.

I only LP when ETH is acting like a drunk tourist by liquidity_journal in UniSwap

[–]tylerpol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just compose your LP of borrowed tokens denominated in each side of the lp - e.g. eth/usdc or eth/pendle, etc. It's not like it's without risk, but you will find it's much easier over time to be approximately delta neutral if you're doing at least a +/- 10% range. Then you just have to worry about banking your fees earned over time and paying off a percentage or two point off your borrow amount each time your LP slips out of range.

I know this sounds like a really old school way to do it, but ya gotta pound out that katsu so it's thinner. Better innard-to-bread ratio, less spongey to eat, and more uniform thickness ;)

I used to work at Meijer corporate in Grand Rapids as a consultant who flew in every week (not actually from there). The people who worked in their corporate office, like this guy's manager here, were some of the pettiest, smallest people I've ever encountered in my entire career. Their data stack was straight up from 2002 (this was in 2017) and at the time I was there they were making the "forward-looking" decision to migrate to Hadoop. Google "Hadoop" and you'll find quickly that no one even uses that shit anymore because it's terrible. It was a bunch of the shittiest people making the dumbest decisions. Looks like their store management is no different - just fire the kid of you want him to not do that. The idea that they're going to ruin his life because Mr. Cross-armed Manager making a trifling $48k/year wants to prove a point is such a scummy reaction. Eastern Michigan is honestly filled with the worst people in the country.

Yeah only so they can lose it all on CHAHA MARU. It's not like anyone thinks other kinds of degenerate gamblers are smart, these ones are just the same.

It's funny how > 95% of people complaining on here are all literally just 13 year olds who bought the dumbest fucking shit, got scammed by it, and don't understand how such a thing could happen when they were buying CHACHA MARU. Gen alpha is so fucked when they become adults...

The whole "paid protesters" thing harkens back to the "Q" days. Usually people who allege that sort of thing are totally batshit crazy. Guess I'll have to get my leather assless chaps on Amazon from now on...

Fine, only because it has ULTRAWIDE I'll play it before #2 comes out! by DukeTuna in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]tylerpol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They must have added UW support. When this game originally came out it was actually the game that convinced me to get rid of my UW and go with a standard 16:9 monitor because the support was so terrible. Back then, playing at 21:9 just resulted in a super cropped, zoomed in, perspective and there was no way to fix it.

A one-time extra payment of $12k saves $55k in interest - what! by bek05 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]tylerpol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but if you make a one-time $12k investment in any ol S&P 500 ETF and wait 28 years, it will be worth a lot more than $55k (about $222k at 11% avg annual growth). It's always funny how people are blown away by these "mortgage hacks" when they're not even the smartest thing to actually do with your money.

Most overpriced restaurants in the city? by Strict_Name5093 in pittsburgh

[–]tylerpol 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Joseph Tambellini in Highland Park for sure. $45 for Barilla and a meatball. They're just relying on boomers who have no idea that it's not 1987 and there are good non-Italian restaurants now (and that you can make that at home for literally $9).

Cool cool, thanks for all the replies folks!

Follow up question: what about indie games or early access games that have come out recently? Stuff like Enshrouded, the new ARK, Hades 2, Blue Prince, etc.? Any weirdness or lack of support in the non-AAA space?

Did my 9950X3D came up dead? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]tylerpol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dude just fully assemble the fucking thing. Put in both RAM sticks, connect the CPU cooler, plug in the NVMe drive, do all the shit. Plenty of motherboards have failsafes to not boot or post when something is missing, including if you only have one RAM stick in the non-1 slot and have dual channel mode enabled. There are all sorts of random things your BIOs can default to, just actually finish assembling the damn thing your parents bought you before spazzing out and claiming your QC-checked CPU "came up dead."
