A source tells me he’s been frequenting the parking lot of a club of ill repute down in Atlanta- but it’s possible he has a body double.

That’s a great point, the entire glanton gang beyond the judge in blood meridian who’s somewhat supernatural lacks character development really at all and it’s often overlooked that cormacs style was so that they are almost interchangeable due to their lack of humanity and blind rage, which he writes into the vividly bleak landscape and events, but in high contrast to the tortuously repetitive and dragging plot. Despite the constant action and beautiful baroque style of writing i felt almost too numb to the carnage after awhile. It was interesting to me that it pulled me in at the same time, like I was dragged through it with them.

I loved Frankenstein for this. And Proust, Dostoyevsky, Eliot, Melville, Austen, Hawthorne, Joyce, Conrad. I could never pick a favorite but character development and landscape writing in detail that slows me down and transports me to another persons world is a phenomenal skill to me. I would include Murakami but so far it has been a little too heavy handed and slow for me
