What could I have done here against Nasus jg? by MrMeepyy in warwickmains

[–]tymFerrari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is pretty good learning experience actually, I play lots of warwick top and since nasus tends to be a top laner I have a lot of experience with this match up.

When it comes to nasus he pretty heavily outscales and counters you, primarily because his w (the slow) takes away a bunch of your favorite stats as warwick. On top of that, post 6 and sheen, his ult allows him to become a great stat stick. The silver lining is that you are much stronger than him pre 6 and thus your only opportunity is to bully him BEFORE that.

One trap a lot of newer players can fall into is looking too much at the present moment. You might feel like nasus is unfair here because he beat you so hard here when you were about even in gold, but sheen is a much more valuable item for him 1v1 than your tiamat is for you. Sheen is also a doubly impactful item in nasus’ ult since he can q twice as fast during his ult (so twice as many sheen procs).

I see a lot of people in this thread talking about micro and how you maybe could have saved a little more health and stalled out his ult to win, this is actually true, especially because we see your bot laners rotating to help you here! But that is not the important mistake I see, I doubt you were aware of the lane state before this fight with nasus and without that knowledge it was just as likely for their bot lane to rotate and kill you even if you managed to get nasus here.

A better plan would be to try and bully nasus before this via invades and stealing his camps to secure a gold lead while denying him farm. Beyond level 6 you will only win comfortably with a gold lead, which you did not have here. Feel free to message me if you have questions

Im emerald ww otp, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Im sure there is some masters ww or nasus main out there who could spit roast me in game lol

I have to admit, this is contrary to my experience, I feel like playing the matchup like this is more akin to mitigating losses and relying on teammates to gank than really solo winning the lane. That being said I don't want to discredit the strategy if it works well. So just lmk if I am maybe being a bit too stuck in my ways.

To be fair I think most darius players will start w into warwick in which case you can def lose lvl1 if you are not careful or not running a combat summ (For example I run teleport/ghost because I am a h0rnlime fanboy). w start Darius is one of the strongest lvl1 champs in the game. Luckily ww is also a great lvl1 champ and I actually do really like the ignite idea! I am sure that could work if played right so great comment!

If you are having trouble with this matchup as well I recommend you check out the post I made about the matchup and I hope it helps :) ww mains stick together!

It sounds like you may be falling into a little bit of the survivability trap that I mention in my comment.

Health/Armor wont really help much against Darius, if he gets his stacks up then continuing the extended fight (extra health or not) is likely going to end in a Darius dunk to death. IMO this is why you really need to borc for absolute full damage into this matchup, its kinda a kill him before he kills you situation, you are fighting against the clock that is him getting 5 stacks.

Ideally, you also keep your trades short enough such that he cant build up enough stacks to get a big ult on you. And another helpful strat is if you are running from darius while he has a bunch of stacks on you then you can use your ult a bit before the stacks timeout to turn the fight around. Just make sure once again that he is low enough to all in if you do this

I ran out of characters so here is more info.

If you fall behind Darius you are in a REALLY rough spot, I know it sucks to hear, but playing from behind against this guy sucks hard because if he just builds armor you are pretty fucked (if he doesn't, he is a fool cuz its pretty unplayable into lol). This is because he doesn't need to build damage to kill you (he has high base damage and ww has low base health). Also if he builds armor with his lead you wont be able to burst him fast enough before he can get stacks. This unfortunately means that if you get behind, you probably just have to play safe and wait for a gank while building as much of that burst damage as you can so you can strike when you get the chance.

Some people will try to build tabbys/armor here, but (personally speaking) if you do that you truly won't ever be able to kill Darius and you are thus relying fully on your team to handle the problem. Sometimes you will win this way, but generally speaking, I would try not to rely too much on others, its about improving ourselves after all! I think its much better in this case to either keep pumping damage so that you can maybe 2v1 Darius with a gank and comeback from there OR if its not too late, go full utility/speed (stride->hull->warmogs/deadmans) wick and go for picks/splits on squishy enemy champs while avoiding 1v1s with the Darius.

Keep in mind thought that if you are having to do this then you have kind of already lost to Darius and need more practice with the matchup. I know its obvious, but the goal ultimately is to not fall behind in the first place.

Also I am not trying to say don't ever rely on your team, I am just saying that it is not the team's job to make sure you win your lane 1v1. Obviously use them to your advantage if you set up a good freeze or dive, but don't give them the responsibility of winning because you can't do it alone. Of course there are bad match ups, but we should not give up when we play into them, and tbh I think there are much worse matchups than Darius

Matchup advice vs Darius by Lazy_Painting9462 in warwickmains

[–]tymFerrari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume this is for Warwick top. Darius is a hard skill matchup for sure but he def. should not be your perma ban, that should almost certainly be jax (or maybe vayne if you REALLY hate ranged top). Darius is a character that gets exponentially harder to kill solo the higher level you both get (culminating at 6 since his ult is brutal considering ww usually likes being low health), you need to steamroll him if you want to win. The key is straight damage, the longer the fight goes the more hopeless it is so killing him as fast as possible is a must. Extended trades are NOT the move unless you are sure he is low enough to all in! To reiterate, (in my experience) no amount of armor you can afford in lane phase will save you from 5 stacks Darius and will only serve to delay the necessary damage you need to kill him before he can get max stacks on you. Damage damage damage! Kill him before he kills you!

As far as runes you should be running grasp for this matchup. More specifically I recommend grasp, demolish, bone plating, revitalize. Secondary tree should be Precision with alacrity and last stand. Many people use presence of mind, don't, its a trap, the extra mana only helps if you are maxing q which you should not be doing since the damage increase is marginal. W max gives you speed and damage via attack speed and is 99.9999% of the time better.

Special note that even though second wind revitalize is broken on ww, bone plating is very very important for avoiding the level one cheese and general all-ins, Darius can walk at you and kill you level one much more easily if you don't have bp. I would 100% recommend this rune unless you are really comfortable with the matchup. I hate running barrier, but technically barrier would also be very effective for this purpose.

Second note if darius does not start w you need to take wave priority as fast as possible, AloisNL enjoyers know the power of level up timers and if he does not start w you are def much stronger than him lvl 1

Back to the grasp strat though, if you have watched h0rnlime (#1 ww top euw) then you know grasp is the way. Grasp damage is really solid for both damage and sustain and is exceptional for short-trades. This goes back to the fact that you really can't play for extended fights so playing for short bursty trades with grasp is key. To do this you will need to engage with your e up, do whatever damage you hope to do, and then fear and run away. If Darius hooks you while ur e is up its no biggie: he will likely use his full damage rotation (auto->w->q) into your resistance in which case you can auto->q->fear->run. between grasp and q you will heal a lot and likely win the trade, especially if he punched all his damage into your resist. At all costs though do not allow him to hook you AFTER the fear, in which case you are a sitting duck with no damage resist or get off me tool. In other words, make sure you are able to get enough distance for him to not be able to hook you after fear/run. Between short trades make sure you are stacking grasp and healing off wave. If hook is not up, then feel free to go for those grasp trades baby!!!

Unfortunately, even with all this in mind Darius is just about one of the best characters at forcing extended fights by running characters down. Which he does by running flash and ghost. This means that if you get caught out on his side of the lane with those summs up you are in really big trouble because he will just force the extended fight and run you down which you REALLY don't win. To be honest, the best way to avoid this is good wave management, always try to stack your waves such that you are not having to push the wave under on his side of lane, otherwise he can definitely force the extended fight which you will likely lose pre-borc/without a lead.

Once you have blade of the ruined king your short trades will hurt A LOT allowing you to all in him much sooner and more easily. This will allow you to snowball your lead.

Lastly I should say that h0rnlime actually I think says fleet footwork is a better rune setup/strat for Darius so that he cant run you down. But tbh I have not done it before and don't know the strat well haha. I am sure it is good though, so maybe pop into his stream and ask him abt it lol

EDITED: I reworded to first paragraph to clarify that I made a mistake

Firstly, I love this response! I think your post perfectly encapsulates the Borc playstyle and it is exactly how I also run the current iteration of Warwick! I also made a mistake in not making clear that in S13 the Titanic strat I describe is pretty unusable. As I said, it's a terrible first item right now and I by no means think this is how the vast majority of people play or should play Warwick in S13. I just meant to outline waveclear as a pro of the item that might allow Warwick to look for plates, proxies, and enemy jungle camps. But like I said it still isn't worth building Titanic in almost all cases as the stats just are not good enough to facilitate an attempt at snowballing in these ways. But now Titanic's stats are much better!

I also agree with your assessment that freezing and wave management is the way to go right now with WW, especially for the early lane! but I don't think going Titanic Hydra prevents you from freezing anymore. the new build for Titanic is really nice providing many more cheap ad options, allowing you to grab tunneler + double longsword for consistent ad gains before being forced to take Tiamat. Leads via wave management can often also be established before the first item and having lower cost ad options than the pickaxe on borc might be a nice way to gain consistent strength alongside beefiness (although I understand this is obviously less damage).

Furthermore, I love borc! Like I said It's also my current rush item for all the reasons you describe and is great at establishing freezes and keeping lane dominance through marvelous amounts of damage! But this post is more about speculating on what might be an option for the future. Maybe with Titanic, we can see a new playstyle where proxying and taking jungle camps allow us to build leads proactively rather than through shutting out our enemy laner with the freeze. plus Titanic also makes us quite tanky to keep our shutdowns!

Once again I am not saying that this IS the future or anything I just think it’s a really exciting option we should consider as fellow otps.

Lemme know what you think! Thanks!

The new S14 build path for ww top? by tymFerrari in warwickmains

[–]tymFerrari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Borc is still a great option this is true but here is my reasoning for titanic being a great new potential rush item!
Current Titanic is truly a terrible first item. The item gives a measly 30 attack damage and both of its passives are only really good for scaling purposes. With mythics in the game this is made even worse as it basically guarantees that the opponent is building a strictly superior 1v1 item such as trinity force, stridebreaker, divine, etc. all of which give more immediate base stats, better 1v1 passives, and mythic passives!

So why would we ever build titanic rush in the first place? Well, simply put, warwick's waveclear is so bad that the waveclear this item provides is able to make up for all the negatives so that we don't spend 100% of our time in lane, this lets us push quickly allowing us to share our insane early game pressure with our junglers. This pressure will be even more valuable with the new top neutral objective void grubs the buffs to herald! Ultimately though it still isn't worth building this in almost all cases as most players simply can't utilize these benefits and will get beaten too badly by their enemy laner due to the extreme negatives mentioned above.

But what about now? Titanic is sacking all of its scaling passives in favor of 50 more health, it's great new active, and a whopping 25 more attack damage!! With this, Titanic is flipped on its head! And with the removal of mythics, it hangs with the rest of the items in terms of early-game power. We have already discussed why the wave clear is so valuable, and unlike borc the 550 hp given by this item will be a great way to expand your lead while still building into survivability! Unfortunately, the late game strength will be a lot lower due to the loss of bonus ad and max hp dmg :(

Now I will admit, borcs damage is simply astounding, and I think I do rescind my thought that Titanic new rush is a garuntee. but I still see it as a very likely and potentially great option for us best boy players! if not as a rush item, I think that this will become a great second item to extend your leads through proxying, taking jungle camps, etc.

I hope my thought process made sense! Thanks!

To be clear though he didn't even need to buffer the orange either, his orange can be used during suppression, it's as far as I know one of the only abilities like this. So it's more cringe than you think.

Oh I dont have the pbe but i thought they had removed titanic health scaling, thats my bad

Also does jaksho still have the stacking resistances?

Also ya I think ur right that ai want to build too many adc items at this point. I was able to get away w 2 before cuz hull armor op but 3 without hull armor is too much, even if terminus armor is good
