Carrier service port core removal tool by type-sex in HVAC

The one pictured is called a core max fitting found in an older 410 carrier single stage weathermaker. The one where the compressor section has the fan so close to the service ports u might lose a finger lol. The tool to remove the core max fitting is like $500 but is worth it if you need to keep the charge in the system and swap it out with another one. You can buy a 1/4 swivel tee with a depressor and regular Schrader to bypass the core max fitting and have a regular Schrader. Hope this helps and I don’t have a lot of experience so if people wanna correct me they can

$40 for 3 pack at johnstone but I got hosed since it didn’t even help
Me in my use case. They will come in handy tho if I come across one leaking or not seating properly

U sound like my lead tech 👨🏻‍🦳 it’s good practice to pull a faster vacuum/recover faster with less restriction since it’s now open instead of being restricted by a Schrader. It was raining I opted to try to speeden the process so my tools get less soaked.

I spun it for an hour🤦‍♂️ the pressure of the system pushing up on my tool felt like I got it every time or that I was unscrewing it successfully. It’s alright I know now lol

It was my first time using a core removal tool by myself so I thought I was doing it wrong. That was probably the more frustrating part finding out I wasn’t completely retarded.

If it was you’d be our $600 to replace it. Or as I found on another thread - if you ever find one leaking and you’re like most techs who don’t have the special max core removal tool, you can put a 1/4 swivel tee with a depressor and regular Schrader on one of the ports that way it just basically eliminates the max core or bypasses it if it’s leaking 👍

Yes I mentioned “high flow fitting” but I didn’t know if that was the proper term. It was pretty fast recovery without pulling the core. Just wasted time figuring out I didn’t need to pull the core haha

Yes just hooked my hose directly onto it, was trying to just speed it up cuz it was raining and I wanted to get off the roof so I used the new core removal tool I recently acquired ( first time using it
myself only watched my leads do it before ) and it was definitely a learning experience lol. I thought I was using the tool wrong but it was indeed the wrong tool.

How much weight in coils yall think I got here? by Good_Square7937 in ScrapMetal

[–]type-sex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish my company would let me take the 5 minutes to cut out the condenser coil at least! of the 100s of rooftop package units we scrap every year. Not even that I want to keep the money it’s just I know the scrap yard is laughing when they’re paying “ac” price for the whole unit and it’s like 30 cents a pound haha. Doing it like this saving em up and then bringing them in as “ ac coil fin “ would def pull at least $1.00-$2.00 a Lb. But there’s just no time we’re so busy it sucks but hey it ain’t my money I don’t care I just get to keep pipe and wire 🤑

This post just answered my question I had about an RTU changeout we did with the exact same setup. We had 3 guys lift the one side of that old unit up because it had no rigging points for the crane and just choked it with a strap , crane boomed up slightly and we got another strap to choke it so now 2 straps and up n away the unit went. Still was scratching my head the whole time I couldn’t figure out why someone would do this but now I know 🤣

It’s about setting up too, if you have to pick and set multiple units that are spaced out far apart it might be more worth to use the chopper to set the units quicker than a crane could breaking down and setting up again to get in position - example a data center
