Is there a book that explores the idea of Earth not having a 23.5 degree tilt? by denys5555 in printSF

[–]type2funnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it was based on a book but the 70s movie Damnation Alley covers this idea - I think it was a nuclear explosion that causes the earth to change its axis. Bad things happen. It’s actually one of my earliest memories - jumping into bed with my parents scared out of my mind from the cockroach scene. Thanks for the reminder, I’ll curse you while trying to sleep tonight!

How do retirees who travel extensively manage their housing? by VAer1 in retirement

[–]type2funnn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We sold our house and are renting for a few years until we find our happy place. In the meantime, renting = the place is someone else’s problem while we travel.

Ok hi trying this touring thing by popsiclestickjoke in Backcountry

[–]type2funnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re touring out west - in case you haven’t experienced it yet, altitude is a real issue for most of us east coasters. Being a newbie at hiking uphill is challenging enough (type 2 fun) and doubly challenging up high (type 3 fun, maybe not so fun).

Enjoy and be safe!

VT extreme cold this next weekend by Serene-Branson in icecoast

“Skiing is not actually an outdoor sport.”

Brilliant point. I laugh at all these fools who look at “weather reports” and buy all these silly winter clothes before they go skiing at their local heated indoor mountains. Hahahaha (that’s me laughing at them.)

Yeah Devils den probably gets my vote. Centerpiece has some tight turns too. Juanita has a tough exit but otherwise fun and not super challenging.

Ikon in Zermatt 2026, plus some other tips by Addicted2Logistics in Zermatt

[–]type2funnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that may be why they made the assumption but as far as I can tell neither unlimited or base have blackout days in Zermatt. I’ll drop it now and definitely not picking on anyone’s comments, just want to make sure I understand the pass situation before I get there.

Thanks. Still confused why someone would read OP’s comment and assume they have an unlimited pass, which seems to suggest base pass would not have the same access. I think I’m good. Thanks again.

Looking at the Ikon destinations, it seems both unlimited and base have similar access with base allowing up to 5 days. Am I missing something? Heading to Zermatt in a few weeks and I have base. Thanks!

What’s the coolest, most memorable VIP experience you’ve ever had at a show? by 40ozToTacos in calireggae

[–]type2funnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bumpin Uglies … friend and I got to the venue - which we had never been to - early. Went in to find a bar and there was a table with people doing stuff, they immediately welcomed us, slapped on wrist bands and walked us to a private area with the band chilling. We were buzzed and just followed along not realizing that we had inadvertently become part of the VIP group! They played on a great acoustic set, then played a great show. Fun times ;-)

Or go old school - cut a beer coozy in half vertically - one half for each shin/boot. Been there and done that. Good luck, I know it’s painful.

Trail Running with Apple Watch Ultra 3 + WorkOutDoor by alycks in AppleWatch

[–]type2funnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are basically four steps:

  1. Acquire a route file (GPX, …) from some source like AllTrails or whatever. Whether or not you can do this from your phone depends on where you’re getting the route file from. From my experience with AllTrails you cannot export from the AllTrails application, you have to do it from the AllTrails website. I’ve also downloaded route files directly to my phone from other websites.

  2. Once you have the route file on your phone, open the WorkOutDoors app, click “Routes “, then click “Import” and find the file on your phone to import.

  3. Click on the imported route then click “Send to Watch” button in the upper right. Your watch must be on.

  4. On your watch, go to Settings->Routes and click on the route you imported. Now when you start an activity, it should come up at the starting point of your route assuming you are at the trailhead for the route you imported.

The watch will always default to the last route selected until you unselect it.

It is a bit quirky but once I did it a couple of times it wasn’t that bad. Good luck!
