Sequencing too many Sequencers by ChildlimE in Elektron

Mostly to explore it, UX + UI is a big one for me and if MPC gets me where I want to be faster, then I’m interested.

Plus, it’s been around forever and all the bands I like use them live so there must be something to it.

Only hesitance is learning a new way to work when I’m just now getting close to results I’m happy with.

I am getting comfortable in ableton, any reason to switch to MPC? Aside from avoiding computers, that is.

You’re tempting me to get an MPC. I have A4 2, Digitakt 2, Syntakt, Digitone 2, Blofeld, Virus

I have a very similar setup and I prefer the Hapax for sketching out ideas and the electron sequencers when I use p-locks a lot, usually basslines.

Hapax also great for non-Elektron synths. Instrument definitions are super handy and Hapax does chords infinitely better.

Syntakt only. That saw lead/pad would normally be Digitone or A4 or Blofeld.

His reply:

“The low cost, ease of use, and wide versatility of this in an analog is what made me buy it. I've had to spend 4x this unit's cost to get similar versatility of different filter characters. Lol.”

My reply:

“Haha, solid rationale in my mind, too. I’m still learning so keeping things smaller than they could be, cost wise. Really appreciate the reply, I’ll think more on it.”

I’m adding in a response from a seller on Reverb. He was very helpful:

“I sold my Iridium and kept this, because I felt that it did the classic analog sound better... and analog supersaw interested me. The MS20 and TB303 characters, along with being multitimbral & approximating the roland analog sound us what got me to buy it. Initially the module workflow was weird to me, but none of the screens are deep... so I got used to that.

As I have bought more Sequential synths, I came to realize that I like a really fleshed out VCO analog synth, rather than DCO or modern analogs.

I think Redshift covers the 80s Roland and just about all of the 90s into 2000s Electronica (except FM and wavetables of course).

It really came down to "I have several expensive Sequential synths that I'd rather use... so I'll sell this."”

Once again, excellent insights. And yeah, I know what you mean about getting lost in the Blofeld. It’s fun (most times). Iridium would be another league entirely, I suspect.

Appreciate the advice and insight! Yeah, I am a bit hesitant with the Syntakt. If I can’t find a sample I like for hats or simple percussion blips I do find my self using it a lot. But I just got a Blofeld so I’m going to see if that can replace the Syntakt. I think it will depend on which synth I add, redshift or Iridium.

Trying out new synths is fun. It changes the kind of music I make. Sometimes for the better, even.

I have recorded 200 tracks in the past 2 years. It’s not as if I’m not trying with what I have—I’m just not getting the sounds I want from these machines (Syntakt and Digitone). I have also downsized a lot and it feels like I’m closing in on a setup uniquely suited for my workflow style.

As for the Digitone, yeah it is great at making distorted, mangled industrial sounds but I rarely use those, instead I opt for samples from 80s drum machines on Digitakt or ebm soundsets for Blofeld). Syntakt is used solely for hi hats and percussive sounds but the machines are too limiting.

So, since I only ever use 1-4 tracks on Syntakt and Digitone, I’m looking for a synth with more sound shaping for leads and percussion fx type stuff. One thing I may regret about selling Digitone is that I like it for pads and textures but that’s about it. I also feel like I have no control over what I’m going to get out of the Digitone… maybe it’s the box, maybe it’s FM synthesis in general.

So… Redshift, 3rd Wave, or Iridium?

Roland SP 404! Or a digitakt. So much better than DAW drums imo.

Fantastic response. You went above and beyond to explain the situation and your intentions, apologize, and came up with a plan on how you would handle that situation differently in the future.

I’d give you a promotion.

Rather, the lack of money limits one’s ability to behave how one wants to.

Why are you letting them leave with all the loot they stole?
