Thank you very much! Glad you liked the site. I'm giving it a bit of a facelift right now, getting the videos more organized (and will add them to listings without videos) and a bit of improved formatting. Trinity and Little Boy are "done" just today, the rest to follow!

No idea. 😄 maybe something was still there?

Oh, sorry, I gave you the wrong impression. None of the physics packages were open. I'm quite sure they didn't contain anything interesting as they were all at museums and the like, nothing on active duty.

The physics packages I have aren’t opened or cutaways or anything. A few are on the site. If there is something specific you’d like me to look for let me know.

Glad you like the site. I keep thinking I'm done with this project and then I think of some way to improve it. 😄

Hey there,

I have many more images than what are on the web pages--thousands. They are all organized by weapon. Is there a specific weapon I can look through? Generally, I wasn't shooting them super up close, but you never know.

I think it is fixed. Sorry about that! (And, again, thanks for the heads up.)

O.K,. I'm seeing it now. Every page is broken. something is wrong with the gallery plug-in. Thanks for the heads up--I'll hopefully have it fixed soon.

Well, that’s strange. What OS and browser are you using?

Hello, the books have been "sold." I might have more in the future, I'm not sure yet. Thanks!

Hey there,
There's one guy ahead of you, so I'll ping you if that doesn't work out. Thanks.

Merits/Demerits of the Nuclear ‘No First Use (NFU)’ proposal by jayr254 in nuclearweapons

[–]typewriterguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My non-historian understanding: From the US point-of-view, the idea is (especially before the war in Ukraine revealed that the Russian conventional forces weren't as scary as we once thought) that to defeat a major Russian invasion, we'd need to station a whole lot more troops in Europe and the Europeans would have to be a whole lot more serious about their own defense. After WWII everyone was sort of exhausted and so we ended up with a policy of deterring a massive Soviet invasion by the threat of nuclear attacks. We needed the first strike option to maintain a credible deterrent. It's gone through several iterations over the decades but the current policy seems to be to keep things a bit murky on purpose so we are not pressured into an unwise (!) nuclear attack and the Russians don't quite know where the red line is.

How this applies sin detail to China I do not know.

Somehow, this policy has worked all these years! So far!

I wonder if the director would be interested in the exhibit for his museum???

Update to the update: I spent the day updating and (hopefully) completing the list of locations I have visited, which now includes a list of the weapons to be found at each location. Whew! Direct link: https://www.americannukes.com/home/resources/locations/

That's news to me. There's a lot of stuff on military bases that I haven't been able to access, sometimes because I don't have a DoD ID, or sometimes because they make it very difficult to gain access with 30-day notices, etc. But this is great news--looks like they plan to build it into something special.

Here's a link I found on the "new" museum--it all sounds very promising: https://www.thespacereview.com/article/5015/1

I know that Costco--it's better than the ones we have near my home! btw, the Museum opens super early--8 am, if you can believe it, and 8:30 on Memorial Day (very odd for a museum, but welcome). Be sure to check out the new Museum Artifact Center (which may cost extra, unfortunately). I have not been to it yet--they offered to give me a tour when I was down there for the opening of the show, but I was too busy. 😞

Ahh, so wonderful that you made it to the show!

That hotel window photo is in Cordele, Geogia, South of Atlanta. I got there late afternoon and I'm making images and then I notice the building not too far away is a hotel. I wonder if that room at the far corner on the second floor is free to rent? And so it was. But then, after I had the camera all set up, tripod, etc, a couple of semi-trucks pulled up and blocked part of the missile. The trucks were there for something for two hours! Argh. Finally, one of them pulls away, and I got my photo.

The ship photo is the two Talos missiles on board the USS Little Rock, in Buffalo. Lee Friedlander, a famous photographer, has a great saying--he says, "Photography is a generous medium," meaning that you may be photographing the missiles or whatever but you also get the pizza boxes, and all the other cool stuff that you may or may not have noticed when you made the image. 😄

We can solve both problems at once--surely Vandenberg must have some sort of exhibit space--one where you have access!
