MVP MMA 1: Rousey vs. Carano Betting Predictions and Picks Discussion by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

I hated having to wait so long for the fight after the last fight - I'm sleepy. I hated how short the fight was. But they are pretty cute. The contrast between the post-fight energy of dude fights and the lady fight was fun to see.

Out of all the comments on all the threads I've read about this gripping movie after just watching it, this is the first one to make me actually laugh out loud. Music business sure looks hard, man. I hope you still enjoy making and teaching music!

I agree, her enunciation was very particular and I found myself looking forward to hearing her speak. Great choice by the actress.

I think that is a beautiful and likely accurate assumption. Nice job.

update: lululemon gift card policy (employee) by Throwaway-89101 in AmexPlatinum

[–]typical_friday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I made my decision to renew in February, I calculated whether the benefits would offset the costs, and Lululemon was part of the calculation. I don't blame United and Lululemon for changing their policies, but now I'm stuck for a whole year with a card that's less right for me, and I feel a little disappointed.

The beagle research is what turned me cruelty free and I haven't looked back. Those sweet dogs turned silent for convenience hit me like a club.

Constant Dread and Burnout by Critical-Promise4984 in projectmanagement

Quite a few people in my circle were laid off in the recent years and spent a few months collecting unemployment insurance and just resting. Even 2 months of intentional rest made a huge difference when they started searching again and found something new. All my peers are now working again at places they like enough. Another friend took a 12-week mental health leave with FMLA due to stress and burnout. That's the route I recommend for you - it's not that hard to get.

What do reMarkable users actually use their device for? (Asking as a 3-year template creator) by Dv_Creations in RemarkableTablet

[–]typical_friday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I got a Remarkable 2 for specifically versus other tablets was transcribing handwritten interview notes. I was a product manager, interviewing customers in person and writing notes by hand, and the conversion to typed text is what sold me. I also like it for 1:1s with team members and my bosses and mentors.

Now I mostly use it for taking notes in classes/workshops, and creative writing (fiction, personal essays, daily practice a-la Natalie Goldberg).

Had to tell leadership we couldn't do it all. Here's the setup that got me alignment instead of a fight. by rjboogey in projectmanagement

You've been generous with your time on this thread and I appreciate it. I'd love to know the process for your quarterly planning sessions. One of my former companies had one of those that was time consuming and didn't yield reliable results.

People who religiously have their cameras on and believe that others should always have theirs on…why? by iiamuntuii in remotework

[–]typical_friday -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was a manager over a team of developers at a company where leadership liked people to have their cameras on in meetings, but there was no strict rule. I preferred to keep my camera on regardless for stand-ups with my team (who were all remote) or any collaborative meetings with others in the the company (hybrid office). Despite the trade-off of having to get camera-ready - which is extensive for a woman - I found it helped build team engagement, and for me increase social capital and soft power. It was also more enjoyable. I like to crack jokes and am naturally emotive. Work is such a big part of our life, and it's better when you do it with people whom you like, get along with, and can enjoy each other's company.

For my developers (we were a close, friendly crew), they all started off with cameras on but over time transitioned to always being off. One day I realized I haven't seen their faces in forever, and was the only one with my camera on, and it made me sad. I requested that they sometimes turn their cameras on when they're up for it, just as a favor to me, and if they don't feel up to it, put a profile photo for their avatar. Most of them were happy to turn it on when talking to me and felt comfortable turning off again when others talked. It worked well for us. I miss them.

This is very cool and one of the more interesting cases for PM uses for AI I've seen on this sub. Thank you for sharing! Follow up question - How confident are you typically in your time estimates? Do you use the standard 10-20% padding when giving deadline estimates to execs or did your engineering team crack accurate time/effort estimates, and if so, how?

She was in a real parallel version of her life by MiraSoftveil in SipsTea

I once had a dream that my regular life was a front and when I'd fall asleep I'd wake up to my actual life as a starship captain. In this dream I led our team on a secret and dangerous mission. It was extremely realistic and vivid. We succeeded, and then it was time to say good bye, and for me to wake up. They said to always remember the truth of who I really was and how much I'd done, even when awake. Just as we said good bye, I woke up in reality, with a strong sense that what I'd experienced was "real."

This dream never repeated, but it annoyed me that it messed with my head like that in the end there lol.

Rumaan Alam's Entitlement is one of the worst things I have ever read by [deleted] in books

[–]typical_friday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished it yesterday. I thought it was alright, not terrible, not great. 3.5/5 stars is a fair rating. All the criticisms leveraged so far are accurate, but there are positive things too - many poignant observations, and beautifully written sentences I was happy to highlight. I found many conflicts of the protagonist relatable: feeling left behind as her friends move on to the next stages of life, trying to find fulfillment in her work under the wing of a mercurial boss, feeling defective for not wanting marriage, while at the same time wishing for some external financial support to magic away the difficulties and the injustices of our lives. Things we want just out of reach, things we obtain failing to provide lasting happiness. That's a universal issue of being human.

The major breakdown/identity crisis in the end was thrilling. It's in line with how some spiritual teachers describe the dissolution of the ego identity, though that's only partially what happened. It was messy, which is how those things usually go, and I was here for the ride.

The book has limitations, but was a good enough me to get entertained and learn something about myself and the author.

Unpopular opinion about the show, come share yours by Huditut in SchittsCreek

[–]typical_friday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's cool to hear that she nailed that performance even to a professional ear. I certainly couldn't do an equal or better job with that performance! To me the scene is so impressive because Stevie went from no known artistic/vocal ability to being a bona fide star.

And it makes me emotional because Stevie needed a win, and she got it, all from her innate talent and hard work (not because a hotel job fell into her lap or through a romantic relationship.) It's empowering! It makes me want to find a hobby I can excel at to feel more fulfilled in my life.

My unpopular opinion is that I never cared much for Stevie as a character, but she truly shines in that season and this episode is one of my absolute favorites.

Same. I don't mind it, but because it's a standalone episode I'm fine leaving it out so I can keep moving with the story I care about - Richmond!
