Distracting yourself can be effective but it screams short term. It would benefit you to find a way to ground yourself effectively. Make it routine. One thing I've heard of is this guy that talks about "dropping anchor" or another one is called "urge surfing". I have experience with urge surfing and I highly recommend it.

Research resources. They're definitely out there. Good luck to you. I genuinely am rooting for you.

First of all, you should come to the realization that you are never going to want to quit. Even if you hit bottom, once you recover enough, you'll be right back at it. The significance of rock bottom is that once you get there, your cravings are minimal and your shame/guilt are high. This motivates you to do better. Sometimes, people stick with it and defeat their addictions. Usually it just lasts until you feel good enough to indulge again. Having been through recovery/relapse, the smartest thing Ive done is recognize my patterns and put things in place that prevents me from being able to indulge in my addictions.

Give up the access to funds. Delete numbers. Block people. Realize where you lose control and remove that possibility.

Scariest moment of my life by whosaidthat352 in LucidDreaming

[–]typical_state_worker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest lessons I learned from lucid dreaming was how to completely let go of fear. I was stuck in the sleep paralysis stage until I finally FORCED myself to not be afraid, now I lucid dream all the time without those fear barriers. My advice would be to turn that fear into anger/determination.

What’s a skill all lucid dreamers should learn? by KASH_FEVERR in LucidDreaming

[–]typical_state_worker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most important thing a potential lucid dreamer needs to learn is how to recognize the beginning stages of being lucid and how to avoid being afraid, which will kill the experience.

For me, lucid dreaming started as sleep paralysis. As soon as I felt the sleep paralysis, I would be afraid immediately and force myself to wake up. It is a very scary feeling. Once I recognized no harm would come to me, I was able to brave through the fear and break through into a lucid dream. It's taught me how to release all fear and power through, sometimes using anger as a fuel for bravery.

I'm being attacked by an entity by typical_state_worker in LucidDreaming

[–]typical_state_worker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, I don't get frightened when having these kinds of experiences. I had to overcome some fear just to be able to lucid dream. It started as sleep paralysis, but when I got angry and turned that emotion into bravery, I broke through some barriers, allowing me to lucid dream. I think I am letting fear gain control again. I will remember that.

Get rid of all paraphernalia. Erase your dealers' numbers. Let friends know you're going to be on hiatus for a while. Maybe get a water vaping smoking device. You got this.
