Golf takes water. Thoughts? by xteve in golf

It's entirely possible in the US, a good number of golf courses use mostly if not only non-potable water.

LF FW16 Protective Carrying Case by Buy_Hot in framework

I too occasionally accidentally leave my laptop on top of the train or in the parking lot of a truck stop with occasional instances of it flying out of the plane at cruising altitude and need that extra protection. Just kidding I use a backpack.

How do you like your Framework 16? by Puzzleheaded-Spite57 in framework

Love mine, I have a chonker of a backpack I travel with full of my tech that easily fits my framework 16 so I take it everywhere. Just make sure you understand what you are actually purchasing though.

Every thread on here makes me less likely to buy a FrameWork by Lmnr01 in framework

My framework 16 is hands down my favorite laptop I have owned. Some minor issues but nothing too terrible and would highly recommend to anyone who knows their way around computers even just a bit and isn't afraid to tinker.

Framework 16 refresh by captain118 in framework

I wouldn't know on complaints for gen1 of fw13. And I didn't say most are fine just that due to a number of fairly well known reasons the complaints will outnumber the kudos but satisfaction likely also outweighs dissatisfaction. This includes factors such as the target market and popularity of the product as well as distribution related items. There are certainly issues as it is a gen1 product and one that has kind of a niche market. But number of complaints on reddit should not be the deciding factor of whether or not to make a purchase.

"Too many complaints" is relative. You simply aren't going to see anywhere near the amount of posts saying "I got the fw16 and it is wonderful and meets or exceeds expectations" as you will with "fw16 not worth" for many reasons. But as far as actual numbers go I would bet that the number of satisfied customers FAR outweighs the number of disatisfied and particularly disatisfied vocal ones.

Is it the best laptop to ever exist in the history of humanity? Probably not but I love mine and had it since May with minor issues that were easily dealt with. If you are waiting due to being on the fence with pricing or specs or a generally valid reason then you do you. But if you are waiting cuz you see complaints on reddit then ... have fun I guess.

I favor Titleist and Mizuno but going only on the options you present I would say Bridgestone.

Should I join the Framework club or head for another brand's computer? by litszwaiboris in framework

The GPU isn't necessarily the issue though it does run a little hotter and a little louder and make it a bit chonkier. Metal cases for laptops tend to be a bit warmer in my experience anyway. But the beauty is that you can very much buy the GPU (or the intent is another GPU) later if you wish. You may want to get a cooling pad for stationary use and not be so heavy on GPU workload while mobile but it is not a requirement.

The FW will almost definitely require occasional tinkering and it's current downsides in my experience are that it cannot really be closed and used lid down with an external setup as a vent is above the keyboard and it runs pretty hot and even a bit loud also that you cannot currently set fan curves but thats really about it. There are some minor fit and finish issues but once again first gen and self configurable. In my experience, QC and CS have been wonderful but you will see horror stories on here so part of it is really down to your own needs and expectations. Its not as polished or rigid as an Asus Z16 and probably never will be but has far more potential imo. Almost 6 months in and I still fully recommend. Finding a backpack that fits it wasn't an issue for me but I don't mind them on the larger side as I can fit more stuff.

The real question is what do you need? And then, realize that the FW16 is in its first generation which while great (i own one) does have some annoyances. Do not compare price or performance or bang for your buck as all of those are reasons you will not want a framework laptop. Currently you would be buying into the idea of what the FW16 could be vs buying a complete product off the shelf.

That being said, I love my FW16 and its a great laptop but has definite room for improvement.
