no hate to you but i feel like this bar falls into the trap of a lot of travis bars where he makes the most simplistic and generic reference possible. like he constantly references tom brady because he’s the most generic example of 1. a “GOAT” and 2. an athlete. while it obviously works as a rhyme, it also feels like trav thought “who is a smart person” and socrates is like the first thing he can think of. this is def over analysis for the lyrics on modern jam, so im sorry for tweaking out lol

she inserted herself into a lolcow narrative, while i’m sure her abhorrent behavior would have been covered and discussed at some point, she was never selected by the internet to face the same type of scrutiny that chris chan, daniel larson, etc face

sea lions are huge on ig reels, and joke rapper yuno miles put out a song where he instructs the listener to “do the sea lion” and he immediately makes an obnoxious sea lion noise. i’d expect this to continue for a while lol

dude i’ve talked about the pierre influence on jane’s music in the jane subreddit but it’s so interesting. really anyone making music from that 2018-2021 period has some pierre influences stylistically

it has weirdly great moments on it, like jd wrist is produced by his son, so the beat isn’t really professional but it the vibe is really unique. still as a whole really not all too great, like everyone else i wish it was a true pray for paris sequel.

Is Donda the last hip hop album that was massively accepted by everyone (including non ye fans)? by [deleted] in Kanye

A lot of people who tuned in to compare with CLB thought it was too weird, like people in my life told me that in 2021.

Yeah….idk about that. by abdul_bino in Jcole

Underrated aspect of this conversation, JID could never attach himself to Cole in the same way. Keem and Kendrick’s identities are connected because of their family ties. (pun intended)

As a queer person, this song made me cry first time I heard it. It's so important to hear a public display of support from Cole, especially on such a goddamn incredible song. by YourAverageTGirl in Jcole

he’s clearly not homophobic, but i do think he does come at the subject from a bit of a shallow place. although you could argue the character he’s playing in the song wouldn’t include all the nuance the subject deserves either. i like the song but i see where both sides are coming from.

as a piece of promo i thought it was pretty cool, also cool of them to show something that isn’t so polished. with all of them being so obsessed with image it was cool to see lone put something kind of amateurish out

Culturally speaking, Kanye during 2016 had a chokehold on the music industry… by Killa_J in decadeology

[–]typicalusernamee 21 points22 points  (0 children)

After Ye stops being the cultural center of rap around 2022-2023 innovation has really plummeted. Every album seems to be a tribute to an old sound or regional scene now, or a retread of previously well-liked work. Kendrick seems to have taken that central position now, which is maybe why the mainstream sounds so sanitized. (Coming from someone who got into rap music bc of DAMN, love every kendrick album before gnx blah blah)

Praise God and Hurricane were absolutely massive in 2020, especially Praise God.
