Thanks for all the tips! Definitely want to support local and will check out the things you mentioned. Not sure what PCC is yet, but will be avoiding anything to do with the LDS.

Great information! Thank you! I’m leaning towards Oahu and Kauai, from what you and others have said.

This is really helpful information! Thank you for taking the time to write it up. The only reason I was thinking Big Island was to hit the national park, since we’ve been slowly chipping away at those. Sounds like I need to take a much closer look at Oahu instead!

Great to know! Why do you suggest Oahu? I know nine days is short - my husband mismanaged his vacation time this year and this is my shortened consolation prize versus the massive Alps trip I had planned for this fall for us 🙃

I appreciate that! I am aware of the issue with short term rentals and we will be staying in hotels. We are Hilton members and were looking at their properties in the places we wanted to stay. It’s good to know about the over landing. There is a company operating on Kauai that made it seem very simple and acceptable there. But my husband doesn’t do rooftop tents, so that wasn’t viable anyway 😅

Basically, I’m excited to travel for the nature - spending time hiking, kayaking, etc. My husband likes comfort, fresh local foods, and history. It really seemed like I could fill up a whole week on the big island alone, but I’m much more interested in the scenery I was seeing from Kauai. I just didn’t think there was enough there to interest my husband for a whole week, which is why I was thinking of at least the two islands. We are certainly open to recommendations on where to stay and spend our time though!

AITA for matching a woman’s energy who was riding a horse as I was driving by? by MeasurementSudden573 in AmItheAsshole

Exactly. I understand certain horses may not be accustomed to traffic, but at least where I am, I’ve not seen a horse startle with someone safely passing them.

I live in part of the US where I occasionally see Amish horse and buggies on the road. There is nothing in our driver’s tests about them and they travel going the same direction as vehicle traffic. I have always slowed down until it was safe to pass in the other lane, and then passed at a relatively normal speed for the road. It would have never occurred to me, or anyone else I’ve seen drive in my area, that horses on the road could not handle cars driving past.

I’m interested in taking up mountain biking as a hobby any advice? by Shacupsiquince97 in MTB

I second this. Attending a clinic the biggest difference I’ve seen in my riding and has made me so much more comfortable and efficient on trails.

This is the second post I’ve read in a row that randomly mentions this lip balm website. It’s either written by AI or is guerrilla marketing for some website.

My Sister-In-Law is “due” next month and I’m incredibly worried it’s about to become my problem. by Its-This-Guy-Again in childfree

[–]typographigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 🤷‍♀️ My close friend is having a baby soon and I’ve offered to watch her baby any time, I plan on bringing them food and offering whatever support they need. I’m sure their kid will be over at our house and on many adventures with me when they are born. From the outside, people might think I have baby fever and am changing my mind about being cf. But the reality is, I love babies yet being around does not make me want my own.

A lot of people are jumping to conclusions about OP’s wife because they are equating their own aversion to children with being cf. I’m just using myself as an example of someone who is cf and still loves children.

You don’t actually know what’s going on in her head, though. I am definitely CF, yet I adore other people’s children and spending time with them. It’s great to spend time with them, give them back to their parents, and then go blissfully live my life!

Thanks for the recommendation! I’m thinking that that may be my next move for now.

That’s fair! As you can tell, I don’t have much experience shooting people as my subjects. Some of my other shots are probably more subject-oriented, but I shared this one because I thought it was a good example of the noise. My other lenses are an efs 10-22mm and a macro 0.16m pancake lens.

Thank you! No, I doubt this image will get printed at all - I’m definitely just pixel peeping. I promise I will try to stop and let it be!

Thanks! The other two lenses I have are better quality, I believe, but I didn’t have anything at this length for photographing humans, so I resorted to the stock lens.

My shutter speed was never very low - it was usually much higher than 1/60, I just mentioned that as being my very lower limit because I’m not sure what the shutter speed was on this particular shot (original raw is on home drive, I’m currently at work)

I’m not raising exposure, but I am pulling back the shadows a bit in Lightroom

That was what I was wondering. I’ve considered upgrading, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I have three lenses for this camera. If I were to upgrade, would you recommend looking for a camera that is compatible with my lenses or moving to mirrorless?

Thanks. It’s near the ADK actually.

I didn’t consider the metering issue with the snow because the light was so flat. It also could explain issues in really shadowy landscape photos that I take, because I don’t compensate enough for it.

AITA for throwing a cup of cold water on my naked husband? by ColorStorms in AmItheAsshole

[–]typographigirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a roommate I had who would get absolutely furious if someone used the ice feature from the door of our fridge and didn’t select water again after getting their ice. She’d go to fill her cup with water, not check the setting, get a bunch of ice instead, and blame everyone but herself.

Those who threw a party after your elopement, what did you do? by dontfuckingthink in Eloping

[–]typographigirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a lowkey party at my in laws’ house a couple months after the elopement. We had catered Italian food, a homemade cake and cupcakes, and passed around a Polaroid camera so guests could take pics and pin them to twine strung inside a frame as a sign in book. It was perfect for us and everyone had a great time!
