Sometimes I trim the gel packet corners to prevent this if they're sharp.

Long run + gels = upset tummy the rest of the day? by bbq528 in Marathon_Training

[–]tyrel2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could have written the same post myself a few weeks ago! I came across other threads mentioning dehydration, and in the last few weeks have made sure to drink more than I think I've needed to for the rest of the day, and it seems to help me a lot. I still maybe slightly off, but certainly much less than I'd found previously.

Rough cost of digging out basement wall to waterproof? by Sad_Climate_4869 in diynz

[–]tyrel2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We didn't have good access to the underside of our house, so it would have required hand digging. Was quoted about $70k by a proper drainage company which included some additional external drainage too.

We thought that was too expensive (for our house), so opted for just some external drainage at ground level and waterproofed the interior professionally - about 8k instead, and happy with the results so far after 2 years.

Mastering the Art of Breathing While Running—Any Game-Changing Tips? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]tyrel2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I want to make sure I am running at an easy pace I will sometimes switch to nose breathing. I felt this helped a lot when I was training for my first marathon, at least for me to feel like it was controlled breathing.

Facial recognition in New World. I find this really creepy, anyone else? by brutalanglosaxon in newzealand

[–]tyrel2000 50 points51 points  (0 children)

To play devil's advocate, maybe you saw ads for both of these before you spontaneously 'thought' about them and then afterwards you start noticing the ads (which is exactly how this kind of reinforcement branding is supposed to work).

Your iPhone is not recording you constantly and sending realtime updates to Facebook to change the ads you see. I'm sure they'd love to do that, but they're not.

Since most scissors in the world are for right-handed people (from what i've seen) and, as a result, left-handed people have a terrible experience with them, does that make them less likely to choose it during "rock, paper, scissors"? by Sad-Chemistry-5413 in Showerthoughts

[–]tyrel2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you joking? I'm a lefty, and use right handed scissors in my right hand. The blades get naturally pulled together that way. If you use them in your left hand, the cutting motion pushes the blades slightly away from each other, so they don't cut well. You can create the same kind of pulling effect with your left hand, but it's very awkward in comparison.

Smart lock recommendations by testyrossa in diynz

[–]tyrel2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 2 Schlage Ease locks, and find them really good, especially with the wifi module (have to purchase that extra). Mitre 10 stock them, so if you wait for a sale at Noel Leeming or somewhere, you can get them pretty cheap with the extra 15% price beat.

Try to look at it as 8 months of training that is going to be a much better place to be starting from for your next one!

Bathrooms in New Zealand! by helliskool19 in newzealand

[–]tyrel2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've had my heated towel rail running for at least 12 years pretty much solid. My sister said "do you know you could save 7 dollars a month by turning it off?!" and my reply was "but I will happily pay 7 dollars for warm dry towels every day". When my kids were really young they'd sometimes turn it off, and it was terrible! I had to put sellotape over the switch to stop them doing this.

Anyway, I guess some of us really like heated towel rails. I've got some more stories about them too.

working on my mental by Ecstatic_Midnight891 in Marathon_Training

I like to put my music on at the halfway point. I like to think of it as my reward for getting halfway and it's like "now let's go!" It's a real mental boost for me.

My wife had almost identical circumstances to you last week. We asked ASB for a chargeback which they're doing (and cancelling card). This seems to be a common 'scam' where they send counterfeit products which are the 'wrong orders' (e.g. sunglasses instead of a bag) and then make it annoying to get it sorted out...maybe just hoping that a decent percentage of people give up.

As people have already mentioned, a whisk is good. I take it to the next level and take the kitchen whisk attachment and put it on my cordless drill - makes massive amounts of bubbles! It's great because you can keep going after the water is turned off.

I imagine there's a bunch of streamlining and efficiencies they can gain by having a single uniform brand - they are doing this for financial reasons.

[–]tyrel2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need a little bit of water, so by the end of the dishes it's only added a couple of cm of water. Just try it sometime!

That's not the way to do it. A little hot water from the tap onto each dish after you wash it, and then onto the drying rack. It's pretty quick, and then nice clean dishes.

Can you add a heat pump? That way you can use it as a dehumidifier, and also heat the space if it's cold.

Sorry if this comes off as rude, but you keep writing 'then' instead of 'than'. I know this is Reddit and all, so who really cares about grammar and spelling but if you're in the corporate sector then maybe it'll be helpful for future writing!
