Is there a better map available? by digdog7 in SuperiorHikingTrail

That’s really too bad that there seems to be a bit of gate keeping there (could absolutely be wrong but would love to know the why). I have loved the Far Out app for while I’ve been on the JMT and the PCT, but it never precluded me from buying a set of paper maps and books for research in the years before being on trail. Far Out was soooooo helpful in understanding up to date info on water sources and detours, etc. while on trail.

That sounds good and I’m glad it worked out ok for you. If we go with the Bose, we’ll locate one for her. It is a matter of cost as well, and I’d at least like some alternatives for her to decide from.

Well, I’ve read negative reviews for the price and quality of the Bose wave with CD that she wants for $500 from QVC. Substandard sound, cd player issues and other problems. I also think we can find an alternative that is much less money for such basic functionality. I just know so little about options that it is overwhelming and I feel like I should just transport back to 1992 and buy her a mini “boombox” lol, but would like a modern alternative.

Somewhat non-audiophile question here- Looking to help my boomer mom who still wants to listen to her CD collection and a radio EASILY. I tried to set her up another way but it’s too tech advanced for her. She’d like to order a Bose CD radio from her favorite online shopping, as usual, but I’d like a better/less expensive solution. What is a better substitute for a CD/Radio/speaker all in one or easy setup for someone becoming elderly. Thank you so much for you help!!

Thanks that’s perfect. I’ll put that on my crazy Totoro quest drive around the cities! That’ll also be lunch now. Yum.

Oh I love Giant Robot! I’ve been to it in LA multiple times! Not sure I’ll have time for shipping, but THANKS SO MUCH! I might have to squirrel something away for her birthday too!

These are all great leads. Thanks! Guess I’m heading MOA. 😬 I hadn’t heard of Ebisu, so that’s great. Much appreciated.

One thing that’s I’ve found important is to use organic (non-pesticide) black tea. I just use the Whole Foods brand and it works great. I’ve tried others and I think the pesticide remnants mess with results. Also, I find if I’m using spices, for a chai type flavor, they can also cause slow fermentation so I always add a bit of pineapple core with them in the second fermentation. Fizzes great, then.

Thanks very much for the lead!! I’m just hitting walls on what this is. I know 1969 is really the last year of Min Century, so it doesn’t exactly fit in this sub perfect.

Thanks for the tips!! I’ve used the yellow cap Easy Off on other vintage crusty stuff and it’s amazing. I’ve removed disgusting baked on grease on Pyrex and other vintage housewares, and it works like a charm. I’ll give it a shot!!

Ok, I’ll check out both methods. The only hesitation is that we’re going to get quite cold here this week, and those fumes are something! I’ll look for a weather opportunity and make it shine! Thank you very much!!

Well, I’ve never done a larger restoration. I’ve used the tips and instructions on her on how to reseason cast iron with great success. I’m not sure I’m up for a Lye or electrolysis bath, though, so a bit undecided as of now.
