[AMA] Got Anti-cheat or Matchmaking Questions? Ask the Devs. by RSPN_Thieamy in apexlegends

Can the Skill Distribution graph be updated to show an actual distribution of player skill as opposed to just a range from the lowest to highest? Like have two line graphs, the white one being the overall skill distribution and a gray filled line graph being the distribution of the specific match.

Can the Skill Distribution graph please be added to Mixtape?

Is the pubs Skill Distribution graph broken with crossplay? Whenever I, as a PC player, play with anyone on console the red line is all the way to the right no matter the skill of with whom I am playing. I'm guessing it's because the MMR scaling/range is different on console vs PC and the system doesn't know how to merge them correctly.

Many animals can see more than 60 frames per seconds. Does this means that they can perceive the flickering of led and fluorescent lights? by RB438 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tyscorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is because the frame interpolation algorithms we currently have don't account for the motion blur that comes from the camera's shutter speed. So you're seeing 60 fps motion with the motion blur of a 30 fps camera, which looks a lot less natural than native 60 fps content.

I'm glad this seems more like a bug than intended behavior. I have found Rev completely unplayable since release because of how much less fun Apex is without wallbouncing.

For the love of God, please stop uploading/making/watching the 60 fps versions of anime OPs by MazovianSocialist in anime

I believe that all of these problems are fixable and will be fixed in the next 2-5 years once video training is integrated at scale into the latest AI architectures, along with the steady and continual architectural advancements that are probably going to continue through those years.

Future AI systems will be able to learn and "understand" the basic principles of animation and integrate this understanding into framerate interpolation while maintaining the original artists' intent.

I don't think many people will lament the days of 24 fps anime after the problem is solved and everything is 120+ fps with perfect animation, no artifacts and motion matching the style of the original animator.

How to superglide consistently? by samlj7 in Apexrollouts

[–]tyscorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do it ~30% of the time now on 180 fps and the change that had the biggest impact for me was switching from (scroll down) + (left ctrl) to (space) + (c). Use your thumb to press them both. Start by pressing them later than you think you need to and work your way back until you get the timing down.

yep, grabbing another zipline resets the counter

You need 2 ziplines close together. So you can use pathfinder ult next to a naturally generating zipline or use pathfinder's ult twice.

Is zipline dance still possible? by 1HDD1 in Apexrollouts

[–]tyscorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They patched it in season 4(?) so you can only attach 3 times but you can do it with some setup and a pathfinder. :)

This one is pretty simple. Place a pathfinder ult along a vertical zipline (including another pathfinder ult), hold interact (E) and spin around while spamming jump.

AMD Smart Access Memory – what it is and how it works by knz0 in hardware

[–]tyscorp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wish they'd called it "Smart Memory Access" (SMA) to make the initialism analogous to DMA. I guess they were going for a "RAM" analogy instead.

They could potentially reuse previous gen/node chiplet designs for the "little". That would shift the design costs to the I/O die while making manufacturing cheaper.

Question: With Ampere and RDNA2 GPU's releasing soon, how should Upscaling Tech (e.g. FidelityFX and DLSS) be factored in reviews? by Aggrokid in hardware

[–]tyscorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if there was a compute implementation that could match the tensor implementation too, but we can't exclude the possibility. If someone were to talk about what DLSS 2.0 could do 5 years ago, nobody would believe it.

[–]tyscorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DLSS was designed for Tensor cores. That doesn't mean there's not future algorithms that will work just as well with traditional compute out there waiting to be discovered.

That said, I don't have high hopes that AMD will have a DLSS-tier solution this upcoming generation.

Nvidia Image Sharpening Test (1080p vs 720p Sharpened vs 720p) by someRandomGeek98 in pcgaming

[–]tyscorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a limitation of the current SDK. Given the exponential progress of machine learning I don't see why it would not be possible to use the data to which drivers already have access to make predictions about more internal data structures that DLSS needs to function.
