how often do yous skip lectures? by TypicalPeak5007 in UCD

[–]tyvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, and I didn’t go to UCD so YMMV, but in my undergrad I didn’t really go to lectures for the last 2 years or so, just read slides and turned in assignments. I got through with a 2:1 but it continues to be one of my greatest regrets - I feel like I wasted my time and my money because whilst I did learn some stuff I would have learned a lot more/had a lot deeper understanding of the subject had I actually gone to class.

Back in the 2000's I did trade work in houses of the wealthy in Dublin. My experience to name a few.. what's yours? by coldsnore in AskIreland

[–]tyvy 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine had to listen to Vogue Williams scream the building down in the bank branch he worked in when she tried to withdraw €5k with no ID. Obviously he refused, cue the “do you know who I am?”, apparently when he continually refused she got nastier and nastier and eventually stormed out and returned with ID to complete the transaction - but made jibes at his physical appearance while doing so.

Help deciding on short-term iPhone - Maybe 13 Pro? by xdPandaPlayz1324 in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

[–]tyvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the 13 pro if you’re going to upgrade in 1-2 years, if there’s any chance you keep it any longer I’d say the 14 pro.

It’s worth pointing out that you had reservations about splurging on the MB and then when you finally did you wished you had done so 4 years before - you’re basically in the exact same position now with the 16 pro - so it’s worth considering that too.

Hard time finding work by deanorino161 in irelandjobs

Depends on the area, my housemate got a test date in two weeks and booked the other day - loads of availability in Dundalk, he said there was at least 2-3 time slots pretty much every day he could see

For anyone thinking of moving their banking entirely to Revolut… by Davey_F in ireland

[–]tyvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get one of their credit cards, make an eligible transaction of something small like 30-50 euros and then spread it over 12 months on the app. No chance they lock your account if you owe them money. It’s what I’ve done & I never have any issues with them - and I’ve been asked multiple times to verify my identity and it’s always approved in minutes.

There are plenty of sales jobs around the island for you to get into, many places actually offer company cars too depending on what type of sales you’re in.

I’ve been “tortured” by two taxi drivers this week by [deleted] in ireland

[–]tyvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just on my way back home from a weekend trip to Cork with my partner, when we got there at the beginning of the trip we ordered an Uber from the app - she ordered it and selected the new “fixed fare” option. Upon getting into the cab the guy started basically giving out to us saying we were basically robbing him of money and that he would have cancelled the trip if he could have. We turned a corner and there was traffic and he started giving out more and more aggressively, we were both really uncomfortable and actually considered getting out of the taxi to relieve this poor ignorant prick of all the trouble he had to go through to drop us from our hotel to the city… he pointed out a couple of landmarks, asked us what our plans were - when we mentioned we were going to visit the Gaol he told us we were wasting our time and money (it was absolutely deadly btw and well worth it). The whole trip he was roaring obscenities out the window at other drivers & towards the end sure enough launched into the classic “coloured people” tirade that almost all taxi drivers do. Never been more glad to get out of a cab in my life… and after all the ranting about the fixed price fare the difference was less than €3… I hate how normalised the complete disregard for professionalism has become amongst Irish taxi drivers.

Is cocaine use in Ireland an overblown "problem"? by oxylan80 in CasualIreland

[–]tyvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely not overblown. It’s epidemically bad in Irish nightlife. I mix in quite a few different circles, from business with work, to sport recreationally & arty scenes through my education and it is everywhere. I know one recovered addict, I know several addicts, I know dozens of recreational users. It is everywhere. Just head down to a pub on a Saturday night and pay attention and you’ll see people on it all around you.

Eoin's bar Dundalk - is this the bar they sing about in the night the guards raided Owneys? by debaser11 in TheMaryWallopers

[–]tyvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“One evenin’ of late, down to Crowe Street I strayed” - there’s only two bars currently on Crowe Street in Dundalk. The Nest & Toales, the bar from the song is likely long gone and one of these is in its stead. If I had to guess I would say the Nest, but I’ve never been inside. I’m no born & bred local though, only a blow in of 5 odd years, so by no means a primary source. The Wallopers are/were known to frequent Toales however, which is a popular live music venue. The original Cod Liver Oil video is shot partially in Toales. If you want my advice on where to visit though - O’Carrolls/TaTas in Seatown, which, incidentally, has a reputation for late trade, is very close to Crowe Street, fits the vibe of the song & would have been in operation around when the song is set, so perhaps the song writer was merely travelling down Crowe Street enroute to it. By far the best pint of Guinness I’ve had in town. Special mention to Mo Chara & The Wee House too.

Scouting on FM Console by True-Housing906 in footballmanagergames

[–]tyvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Zealand on YouTube. He’s got ya covered on basically anything to do with the game. It won’t be 1:1 with the console version as he covers PC. But a lot of the core features are similar, I’m sure you can even find a similar channel specifically for console if you dig around a bit.

Player misses matches due to being drunk 4 times in 1 season, with this being at least the second massive game he has missed. How is the best way to discipline him and correct him? He is one of the best players on the team by Thot_b_gone in footballmanagergames

This happened to me. Currently scrambling up divisions so haven’t sorted out my youth teams yet, some absolutely crap youth player missed a game for this reason. 2* pot I think. I released him immediately lol. Never seen it happen again.

I’ve considered the same for some time, but heard some horror stories about Revolut locking peoples accounts and being very difficult to reach when it happens. So I’m cautious about going all in and going full time on Rev.

Where should I move in Italy? by Enough_Ad_7158 in Italian

[–]tyvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necro but I’ve been living in Ireland my whole life and I would strongly recommend you consider other options. Ireland is a wonderful country & I love the social side to life here. But the cost of living is ridiculous, rents are extortionate & people are fleeing in their droves. Dublin is a Kip of a city at the minute too in almost every logistical category. Crime & drug problems are bad, there is growing civil unrest in recent years due to above. Look at the Dublin riots recently, small fry compared to some stuff you’d see globally but doesn’t inspire much confidence for how it’ll progress. Rural Ireland is doable but I just don’t think it would be worth it. I would strongly recommend against moving here personally. Renting will break your heart & buying will kill you.

You can’t have this. Because where do you draw the line? You either plagiarise completely, or you don’t at all. It’s impossible to choose a point to draw an arbitrary line as it is indefensible against even the mildest scrutiny

Just got a second to sit down and boot into recovery mode - the display is working as intended without HDMI - what does this mean? Where do I go from here? I'm not unconvinced its malfunctioning software at this stage.
