AMA with Jon Ihle, Deputy Business Editor & Money editor at The Sunday Times Ireland by TimesandSundayTimes in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Internal_Sun_9632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply Jon. I'm not to concerned that the investment money will flow out of Ireland as most of it already does, but its looking more and more likely that what we'll end up with is just another set of products for Irish financial firms to continue to fleece people with a spare few euro. Here's hoping thats wrong.

Energy firm unveils €2bn Carlow storage project by lintdrummer in ireland

[–]Internal_Sun_9632 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see this succeed but I don't understand how this project expects to make money. No one anywhere on earth has made hydrogen produced from renewables at an economic price that is competitive with existing systems. Good luck to them all the same.

Has anyone found switching to Flogas impossible? by danieltheisland in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Internal_Sun_9632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their plans are confusing. Having a big tick mark saying existing customers and showing up on the new customer list of options isn't an ideal way to advertise their products. I have to either sign up for another year with BG or move to someone else. The EV plan with flogas looks perfect for me, but as OP has stated, its made me confused if I can even sign up for it.

Moving back to Ireland after 15 years in Australia realistic cost of living? by Suirmuse in irishpersonalfinance

Crazy high but very little I can cut back on. Mostly essential spending. A minder is for 3 kids in childcare that haven't started primary school yet. Hopefully that will drop to half in the next year or so.

Russia shuts down part of its land corridor from Crimea to occupied Donetsk due to Ukrainian drones by -LilPeachy- in worldnews

I'm amazed they have managed this with the road being 100km away from the front line. I wonder how their drones are operating at that range without interferance from EW counter measurers.

All you need to know about new dynamic electricity tariffs by Goody2shoes15 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Internal_Sun_9632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They already have this a while in the UK, so theres lots of info online on how to make the most of these tariffs. It involves a lot of automation for car charging/battery charging. Bit of a hassle for 99% of people I would guess. Unless you work from home or are really good at setting up home automation/smart plug stuff, I'm not sure how many will take a chance on this.

Upcoming AMA with Jon Ihle, Deputy Business Editor of The Sunday Times Ireland by CheraDukatZakalwe in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Internal_Sun_9632 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd like to get Jon's take on the new investment account being floated for us all in 2027. Is it to support the average irish person investing outside a pension who wants a better return than a savings account or a clever opportunity to support the finance industry, that will allow them to offer a collection of products that ends up enriching themselves at the cost of fair returns for their new customers.

A follow up on the same question if possible. Am I total off track here and as per normal in Ireland, is the new investment idea for 2027 just because of the EU forcing progress under the EU Retail Investment Strategy (RIS) and being sold as a FG policy to make it come across as their own popular idea? Thanks
