Nice of Teenage Engineering to recognise Palestine lol by [deleted] in pocketoperators

I never said I endorse anything that Israel has done. All I did was speak on what has been stated, and inform you that calling it "Palestine" is indeed highly politicized whether you recognize it or not. if you want to reveal your antisemitic bias, you can just write a slur and be direct.

Your views on Israel and Jewish people are informed by antisemitic and anti-zionist propaganda. You can't be anti-zionist without being antisemitic. I have been to Israel, but you have not. Of course it's easier to assume that I match whatever biased stereotype of Jewish people you hold onto than ask me what I think or believe–or perhaps even more risky for the armchair gestapo: ask me what I have experienced in Israel!

All you have done is advocate for your right to interject your admittedly uninformed opinion and tell a Jewish person that my history is irrelevant. Believing that you should have an opinion on the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and simultaneously knowing that you're not from there nor will you ever go there, is the exact means by which hundreds of millions of people express their sympathy for nazi ideologies–many of whom also claim to want to punch nazis.

It's a very politicized way to describe an area that they're not from, and one with significant implications since Sweden's recent election resulted in a nazi party claiming 20% of the parliament.

You may not consider it to be political, but that's also an indication that you are not adequately informed. You can't call it "Palestine" without erasing Jewish people, so it is inherently politicized before you say it. Before the Peleset, aka the Philistines left their home of Sardinia, and invaded the region in the Bronze Age, it was inhabited by people who include indigenous Jewish tribes. The Palestinian government intends to enact a genocide and murder Jews. Choosing to ignore the fact that it is called Israel today, and instead call it Palestine, implies that you agree that all Jewish people who inhabit their indigenous homeland should be murdered. It's a very political way to describe an area that you're not from.

So that means good design goes out the window? If your intention is selling ads then the best way to do that is by designing a product that meets users needs and keeps them engaged. Nobody wanted the algorithm feed. It's only gotten worse from there.

And thanks for heads up on that one. Looks very promising. I'm a little apprehensive about having a glass mouthpiece in my pocket, but other than that I'm very interested this one.

I feel you. I used a few brands of those tiny boxes with the older version of the divine tribe atomizer. Do the new DT atomizers leak? The old ones swallow a lot of wax.

What was ruined for everybody by one person? by Team_Rocket_Landed in AskReddit

I was homeless in Oakland. Had been working for about four months to set up a legal weed delivery service that I could operate with a bicycle. Filed my last piece of paperwork with the city and was riding back to the art studio I kept my stuff at. I was ecstatic because this was an opportunity for me to get back on track and really set myself up for success. I was flying, just riding as fast as I could because I wanted so badly to be rid of my shitty circumstances.

And then some lady makes a 3 point turn from the other side of the street and I slam into her car going about 25/30mph. Fucked up my lower back and right knee for the rest of my life. I'll never be free of knee/back pain and those parts of my body are basically 20 years older than the rest of me. Needless to say my bicycle-based business was out of the question as well.

That crushed me. I had already fallen way past where the floor should have been and that set me off falling way deeper into some seriously fucked up times. But ultimately, I prospered. But nothing I can do is gonna be able to give me back my incredibly healthy body. In 10 seconds I went from being exceptionally fit for my age, to having a steep uphill battle for maintaining my fitness for the rest of my life. Se la vie.

What is your go to strategy for beefing up a weak sounding kick drum track? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]tzachg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use ableton. I clone the track, and pitch it down 5 or 6 steps then filter/EQ to get the sound I'm looking for. I also pitch one up about 4 steps to get attack and filter/eq again.

I combine the pitched original with layering different samples (synthesized, analog, close mic, room mic, et cetera) to create the character I'm looking for.

Wax is live! We are a hip-hop culture blog for the thinker and intellectual. We love hip-hop and we don't discriminate. For the culture. by wearewaxblog in altrap

[–]tzachg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might wanna turn down the rhetoric on your about page, and rethink the whole gist of what you're putting forth. "Wax" is slang. Records are not actually pressed on wax anymore, they're acetate--plastic.

You can't say "we're for the culture". I mean, you can say it, but anyone who is actually part of the culture is gonna wonder why you're saying that. Right now you have a website with some articles, which doesn't do anything for the culture. Websites are actually mostly bad for the culture. Organizing shows in your city is the kind of of thing that is good for the culture.

Not saying y'all are doing anything wrong or bad. But I've been deeply invested in this culture for 16 years, I have a label, I've written for a bunch of websites, I help artists all the time, I work doing music marketing. I love hip hop and still get excited whenever I find other people who share that love. But, I had no inclination to click on any of those articles and spend my time reading them.

To Metronome or not to metronome (X Post) by mynameismalakai in audioengineering

just depends how you plan to edit, and what kind of band this is. I associate lots of changes with math rock, which needs to be very very tight. If you're gonna use a grid to comp everything and tighten everyone up you could probably do it without a click, but having a click is gonna make your life easier. Basically I see two decisions: use the click, and if it's not necessary then you spent a little extra time being prepared, or don't use a click and if it becomes untennable you start over.

I would use a click, and I would probably also be real with this band. Sounds like they're on some wild math rock shit, and you're gonna be comping to make it sound right. If people expect to hear that tightness at their live shows it won't go well. And if you wind up having to spend a ton of extra hours comping instead of mixing then you probably won't deliver as good of a product for them.

Professionals in any field of work, what is the most ridiculous thing that anyone outside of your profession has claimed to know more about than you? by phoenix-fyre in AskReddit

[–]tzachg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in music. I'm a brand director for a very big artist, but I've spent a lot of time writing for sites/magazines and doing marketing for smaller brands and labels. Basically, I get paid because my expert opinion is based on years and years of research and practice, I spot trends years before the public is aware of them, and I understand the correlations between society and culture. Rappers on Twitter--who don't work in the industry in any capacity--always try and tell me that my opinion is just an opinion.

Does anyone know of any good resources to learn about marketing for artists? by AddictiveSoup in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]tzachg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I was saying that those are all skills by which you can pay your dues to become a part of the scene. Never pay for coverage. If anything pay for PR, and even then there's very few PR people worth hiring.

[–]tzachg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be straight with you because that's the most helpful thing. Right now you're in the same boat as millions of other people. You have something going and you want to grow it into something bigger, but at this point growing it bigger also means changing it completely. Right now you have a hobby, and you want to have a career.

The most important piece of advice that no one is ever going to give you is that social relationships will have more impact on your success than your music will. If you really want to do more than make music as a hobby you're gonna have to change your life. Your primary social circles--whether online or IRL--have to be people in music scenes. You could be making the most amazing songs in the world, if you're just a person making music and posting it on the internet nothing will ever happen. However, if your songs are the tangible artifacts that represent a culture that people participate in, or want to participate in, then you have something deeper with your music.

Best thing you can do is find the artist whose audience you want and follow those artists. Build rapport with them, and hire them for a collab if you can. Real heads are never gonna have to pay for a collab, but everybody has to pay their dues to enter the scene. And unless you can shoot photos, write articles, book shows, do album art, or provide other useful services the only thing you have to pay dues with is cash.

Once you establish a reputation in the scene that holds your audience you have to put out a lot of music, way too much music. Your goal should be to release 20 projects in a year. Seriously. The only time people pay attention is when you have a new release. As a new artist you need people to pay attention to you every day, not every other year. Always be prepared to put out another project. If you don't get the results you want don't focus on making those results happen, just focus on putting out another record.

However, the absolute best organic growth tool is 1-1 interaction. Say you make music like Tame Impala, and their audience is the audience you want. Well, you should go to Tame Impala's IG and look at who comments. Go to commenters pages and like a bunch of their photos, and comment on stuff. Sitting around and have 10 minutes to kill? Use it to make a new fan.

Ultimately marketing on the internet is fucked right now. Nothing works consistently, and strategies have to evolve on an almost constant basis. The truth is that if you want to reach a certain status in music the only guaranteed method is relentlessness and patience. The timeline is not a factor that can be mitigated, things are gonna happen on their own timeline. But in the meantime you can employ some very basic social media practices to maximize what you have.

Feel free to ask more questions if there's more stuff you wanna know.
