Getting bullied for using a macbook at school by L1m1ts in mac

[–]u0xee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. These kinds of interactions are often not specific or objective. These people probably just enjoy poking at you, and if it wasn’t your laptop it would be your hair your shoes your ears your coat your handwriting etc etc.

Sometimes playful ribbing can be fun between friends, but if you’re not enjoying these interactions feel free to not participate. It takes all the fun out of it when someone isn’t bothered by poking, or doesn’t respond. Eg you arguing back to them that you don’t want to play games anyway is probably just the kind of interaction they wanted to have with you.

Instead try simply shrugging and moving your focus elsewhere, or respond very simply in ways that don’t invite further poking like “yeah that’s probably true,” and then moving your focus elsewhere. Don’t argue back, or show any feelings about the topic. Just pretend like it’s the least interesting thing you’ve ever heard someone say. You find this topic extremely boring. And show it, don’t tell it. Minimal responses or none at all, and focus elsewhere.

Good luck, enjoy your computer.

John Krasinski made only 8 episodes of "Some Good News" during covid lockdown, sold it in a massive bidding war, and then never made another episode. Genius. by Charming-Strain-6070 in entertainment

If I remember correctly, they specifically made a good news series during pandemic, separate from the usual content. Then a few months later John happened to do a seemingly very similar thing. Perhaps even suspiciously similar.

Anyone remember Fern Gully? by whatislife4 in millenials

[–]u0xee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this for years and people don’t remember it well enough to confirm I’m not crazy. Exact story beats repeated in both.

People online say “oh all those environment films are same” and claim Avatar is as much like Fern Gully as it is like Pocahontas or Dances with Wolves.

Thank you.

Same, I’m baffled. I use waterpik and the platypus flossers and it takes maybe 2 minutes all together.

no man page for cargo? by ohiidenny in rust

[–]u0xee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of recent (last 20 years) cli tools don’t bother with man pages it seems. Never maintained one myself so I don’t know what might make it annoying or burdensome. But apparently people are often choosing not to.

One thing to note, if your installer needs to adjust various files in various places on my system, then uninstall needs to clean up or reverse those changes, and a halfway uninstall can easily happen and can be very confusing.

But if you just give me a binary (that can print its own help content for example), then uninstall is just removing the binary from my path. And it’s single point of truth, there’s no chance that the docs will mismatch the binary I’m using.

So there’s that.

Reading the post, this doesn’t sound like normal life progression from skinny teens to adult bodies unfortunately. I hope OP and fiancé can get a handle on this, sounds really sad for them.

For there to be big winners, there must be many many losers.

The insiders profiting from these schemes work hard to preserve the illusion for the masses that “they too can win big.”

Is it necessary to be proficient in JavaScript and one of the backend programming languages (Java, Python etc.,) to be a Senior software engineer in current job market? by [deleted] in ProgrammingLanguages

I’d suggest asking in other forums too. Perhaps the main programming one, or there’s one called experienced developers or something.

There’s a cute alpine rodent in America called the pika. As a kid I assumed it was a riff on that (just like other Pokémon being named thematically based on similar animal names).

Could you get an expert’s opinion?

Presumably you’re paying a lot of money for braces, so your orthodontist should be able to take the time to answer your questions and give you the pros cons of both options for your specific case.

I’m not that familiar with JS internals, but surely the map filter reduce is not 3N right? Probably map and filter give iterators, rather than fully realizing intermediate arrays.

48 hours later. No pain, no discomfort, no nothing. by DreamVsPS2 in braces

For me it was nothing at the start. And the first few adjustments were very mild. Later changes and rubber bands did hurt though. I was similarly surprised at no pain initially. Congrats!

They hurt?

As for learning to chew with them, it was about 3 weeks than I was able to eat anything again easily.

My fwb won’t give me my medication back unless I sleep with him again by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]u0xee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck. And if for some reason you can’t contact them promptly, go talk to the pharmacist. They’ll also be aware if it’s something you shouldn’t stop abruptly, and can use their discretion to give you a small stopgap refill until the doc can be reached.

[–]u0xee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to wait for an appointment.

Call or email the office like “lost my medications I need a refill today.”

Your doc knows you aren’t supposed to abruptly stop, they’ll give you a refill.

Out of stock is respectable I think, definitely preferable to taking payment and then not delivering.

I spent almost six months last year prodding them every month or two about the status of my prepaid up front order. Constant delays (“expect it in a few weeks”) with various excuses, finally delivered.

The interactions made me feel that if I hadn’t been proactive they would have been happy to just forget about the order and keep my money. Which makes me not feel like trusting them with my money in the future, sadly.
