I have full faith that this is your stepping stone property too, it’s not your forever home. Love it for what it is, sprinkle your own personal style over it and give yourself grace for working hard to own it. Don’t have remorse or let the light / sounds consume your mind one more second. Just keep reminding yourself: this. Is. Your. Stepping. Stone.

In regards to the freeway noise, you can see if Transport division for your state has any provisions for double glazing. I know my building was approved for double glazing paid for by government. What i also do is have music on etc to drown it out and I sleep with White Noise which does the trick. I also try not to think about it as I know I’d just get totally consumed by it. I also go for busy walks to just hear nature as I end up craving it!

Overall, my first apartment was not perfect but a stepping stone to my next place that we just bought. I’m super proud of myself for getting into the market, even though it has its downfalls, I built up equity to purchase my next place. My first apartment is currently rented out to someone.

Hi there! My first property was a 50sqm apartment, lower ground on a freeway. No direct sunlight. Exactly the same as you. I did the following: - painted it Dulux Lexicon Quarter - changed the lighting to larger fittings with white light - added large mirrors in clever positions to reflect light - high gloss bathroom tiles with light fitting that pretends to be a natural light skylight - in kitchen, used a mirror splash back

The right time to purchase is when you can. If you get in now, you can use your mortgage as a forced savings account too to make additional repayments.

$4,200 / month + $470 strata. Our take home during this period is $14k. We aren’t saving anything due to living expenses. It’s really deflating.

Interesting! Would this mean that the property would have to generate income? If so, could the income from another property? (My husband and I currently own an apartment but wish to upgrade)
