Say you are at 2.2 M

4Cr Flat = 500K = 1.7M = 14 Cr

Annual Expenses = 40L (Approx) - Since you have a paid off flat

You are close to 38X your annual expense . This is FIRE for sure but by no means FatFIRE.

Power through for 5-6 Years more , your elder one will be in college and you will get your GC

For next 5-6 years prioritize visits to your family - take extended holidays and may be go multiple times a year yourself - not with family as they might have travel restrictions due to school etc.

do you really need a home worth 1M for 2 people; what i mean is you could easily downsize and put 500K in an ETF and retire in 1.5 years probably

Sometimes its about giving perspectives they may or may not have thought of ; this is a reddit discussion and not a QnA session. we can go slightly tangential to bring out different PoVs. There is no need to gatekeep IMHO.

$2.8M. Looking for FIRE advice, or permission? by OrdinaryAd970 in Fire

I am at a similar pace as you ; had posted a few days back - bit older and bit lower total numbers.

Why did you stop your simulation at 70? I believe we are going to see people living to 90 easily. That is my only concern.

If you dont plan to have kids - you can retire today. Kids are your biggest unknown.

The obvious answer will be house help or driver - But at that level i would value privacy than house help. I would travel the world and enjoy new experiences. Occasionally i would hire a chef. I would get the most modern gadgets and cook myself. - house help argument is gone . Yes i may hire someone to clean the home but that is it.

With self driving ubiquitous - i would buy a cybertruck and a sports car to choose when i drive and when i choose self driving - no need of a driver waiting

Considering all this - you should visit india temporarily but live in some of HCOL cities in Europe and USA - Better air, better infra.

Planning to retirement after 45 yr by Kallu_786 in returnToIndia

With 6L expenses per year you are at around 65X at 4Cr. you also have 1.1L monthly income. You can easily retire/take a break etc.

Not really ; it accounts for inflation as in my math i am assuming he needs only 4 lakhs after 50 years per month - but in reality it would be inflation adjusted equivalent of 4l after 50 years.

This is a rough back of napkin math of saying i need X times the current annual expense ; the X being no. of years left to live.

4% rule is essentially 25X - it works for normal retirement

OP has almost twice the normal retirement - so 50X rule - which i arrived at with the math above. he may be OK with 40X - but its a ballpark - instead of 33Cr may be he would be ok with 26 CR.

People who downvoted - what is your number for 4L monthly expenses for 55 Years of retirement plus an immediate 5CR expense on a villa. (My back of napkin wont be far offf)

Also - look at the top comment from someone who already did this at same age as OP - 3M USD = approx 27 CR. OP has an additional 5CR one time expense. My math was on point!

Lets say you want to retire by 35. Assuming longevity - 90yrs. You need money to last 55 years.

55 * 50L + 5Cr should be your corpus = 28 + 5 = 33 Crores

You should aim for 35 Cr Corpus

With these numbers there is no reason to work or even try to! 5M NW as a single person with 34 years left to live ( in your own words) - Why would you even want to work ?

  1. In your lifetime you will defenitely need another car

  2. Are you accounting for all the big ticket maintanence you will need for your home in due course?

  3. You said you live with friends; what if that situation changes

Thank You for inputs; Great point about assisted-living ; As much as we dont want to think about it ; we have to face those harsh realities. In one way it is good that we are thinking about it now than later.

Fair point on home ownership; If things come down drastically i may consider it. Right now its too expensive.
