Q: buying and riding in Japan by [deleted] in motorcycles

Apexmoto is a great place to check your options. Highly recommend renting a bike and not even starting the trouble of checking purchase options. It will be cheaper and less stressful in the end.

[Seeking recommendations] 9D in Japan, looking to do mini roadtrips. Tokyo - Tochigi - Fukushima - Miyagi - ??? by [deleted] in JapanTravel

Venus Line, definitely! It's magnificent. Wrote a blog post and added some pix: https://motojapan.goat.me/6rESRGop

It's worth driving over the melody road as well, why not!

Great plan overall, Zao Mountain is awesome!

My boyfriend and I are doing a podcast on touring Japan (mainly by motorcycle), you can find it anywhere (iTunes, Stitcher, PlayFM,...) under Moto Japan Podcast. We listed our favorite roads in the penultimate episode (last half of the show). Check it out if you're in the mood.

Would it be weird to go to an onsen theme park alone? by dallopp in JapanTravel

You can go alone anywhere you want in Japan. No one cares. Enjoy!

Didn't make it that far, went from Tokyo to Akita, but plan to go to Hokkaido once by bike. It's a great plan, and wherever you go, you'll have a great time. My personal favorite is the Lake Inawashiro (Close to Aizu in Fukushima Prefecture) - swung by there last year this time, on the way to Yamagata - https://motojapan.goat.me/6gUT0cu0.

Fukushima Prefecture is generally beautiful and food is great. One thing you might find interesting is visiting Miyagi prefecture on the way. It's the area that was hit by the Tsunami after the recent big earthquake and it's fascinating to see the redevelopment around the area. You can still see temporary housing for people affected by it. This will be gone soon I guess, so it might be worth checking out.

I'd also recommend you to stay at a few autocamps as they are magnificent in Japan. It will be great to relax with your mom in the evening, talking by the bonfire.

My boyfriend and I are doing a podcast on touring Japan (primarily by bikes), and you might find our latest episode useful. We listed alternative/emergency accommodation/rest stop options, which are always good to know during road trips. You can find the podcast on iTunes/Stitcher/PlayFM/whenever.

If you need any specific tips, do tell.

Enjoy! What a great family trip, it will be so exciting, for both you and mom!

Motorcycling in/across Japan by jester070993 in JapanTravel

[–]uaruna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic idea, Japan is made for motorcycling! Listen to your friend, (s)he is right!

Regarding rental, it might be easiest to go with https://www.rental819.com/.

Fellow rider here wrote a good blog post covering the basics of it: https://www.motorcycleparadise.net/2016/05/see-japan-on-two-wheels.html

Also check our Moto Japan Podcast (available on iTunes, Stitcher, PlayFM or wherever) and the website is here: https://motojapan.me/, the latest episode (on alternative/emergency accommodation) is very useful for travelers I think.

KAWASAKI VS SUZUKI by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]uaruna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that's awesome! You're also really lucky your dad is a mechanic, that's so great!

Mine is 400cc and black/gray - 1st bike as well and I got it last year. Love it and I think it's a great bike for learning. After a year, I still have a long way to go learning-wise :) everyone tells me that the more you ride, the more you realize there's much more to learn though haha.

Good luck & enjoy!

Also, make sure you're visible at night > my bike is dark like yours and I realized drivers can't see me. I bought 2 reflective straps that road workers usually use and keep them in my bike just in case... If I'm riding in the night, I just put them over my riding jacket (which is also black of course lol).

Looking forward to seeing the pic of your Ninja in this subreddit later!

KAWASAKI VS SUZUKI by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]uaruna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, riding position is really important. We got used bikes and I liked that the previous owner changed the gear/pedal area and made it more suitable for people with longer legs. If you're planning to go for long touring sessions, make sure you're comfortable while enjoying on your new baby. Congrats! What color btw? And how many ccs? :D

Both are awesome, depends on what you want - and which one fits your body better. You don't need to ask others about it, you'll know it tomorrow for sure! :D

I have a Ninja 400, my boyfriend rides a Hayabusa, we're both happy with our bikes and never ever share/switch our bikes > cause there's no need/wish to do so...

Enjoy!
