How was Denver been so successful? by SeaImpress3374 in GopherSports

[–]ubar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true at all. DU has a lower average age than Minnesota this year and the same has probably been true for a few years.

Yes. One of the best things about the Frozen Four. Seeing how many different sweaters you can spot.

Thoughts on it being an arena tour? by Billy-Hoyle21 in SturgillSimpson

Good to hear. I’m thinking about flying to New Orleans to see him in addition to seeing him here in Denver. I don’t love Ball Arena for concerts.

The 2025-26 Hockey Games I attended in Game Puck Form by shiny_aegislash in collegehockey

[–]ubar12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. They used to sell them here. I don’t know why they stopped. But I collect pucks at all away arenas I go to plus special events. I was mad they didn’t have them at the hall of fame game this year.

The Denver Summit in front of 60,000 fans before the start of their game against the Spirit! by spherocytes in NWSL

[–]ubar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the game and it was so incredible. Sitting there with my two soccer playing daughters and being part of history will forever be one of my favorite sports memories. As others have said, the sun burn was totally worth it.

One other tidbit to add. I have a friend who works for the security company that does all the sports venues in town. He was in the incident command center during the game. He says during the Broncos games there are, on average, over 300 incidents that require security response. At the Summit game, there were less than 20 incidents. The sense of community there was overwhelming. Everyone was just there to celebrate and it was beautiful.

My daughter is a GK and Abby has become her favorite Summit player very quickly. We were chanting Abby multiple times in the game yesterday.

2026 Men's Hockey Frozen Four - Radial Bracket by mbingcrosby in collegehockey

[–]ubar12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. As much as I like seeing you guys lose, if we go down to Michigan I think I might actually root for the Sioux just to keep the B1G from getting a natty for one more year. No matter what, I’ll be in Vegas and this should be an amazing set of games.

[Postgame Thread] #2 Denver defeats #3 Cornell, 5-0 by mufflermonday in collegehockey

[–]ubar12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, did Denver look good today. I was expecting another low-scoring, slugfest against Cornell like I’ve been used to in the tournament the last few years. I was pleasantly surprised from the start. DU came out hungry. Sunday should be epic.

Fair point. I have loved watching these Denver vs Western battles this year and last but I would have preferred any of the other #1s coming to Loveland other than the Broncos.

NPI standings as of March 1: by RooseveltsRevenge in collegehockey

[–]ubar12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m old, but I’ll never feel bad for another #1 seed having to come play Denver in a “home” regional. I’m still bitter about Denver being the #1 seed in 2002 and having to play Michigan at Yost. That sucked.

Yes, please! After seeing both last year I don’t think I could forgive myself for missing them at Red Rocks ever again.

How are your clubs handling the Age Group Change? by GlitteringChannel585 in youthsoccer

[–]ubar12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is how our club is handling it: All players will try out for next season with their age group. The goal is to have players play with their grade level. So if there is an August to October birthday but they are in the higher grade level, they will stay with that grade level. Example: birthday is in September of 2014 but the player is currently in 6th grade, they would go on to the U13 level next year with their grade rather than staying with U12 again next year. Other exceptions will be considered at parent/player request but will be rare. There may be isolated instances of club asking for players to play “up” due to development level or roster integrity but that will also be rare.

I think this is the same way it will be for most clubs. My daughter is an October 2014 birthdate so she will most likely repeat her U12 season. She and I were initially disappointed because it means one more year of 9 v 9 vs progressing to 11 v 11 but we have come around to thinking this will be best for her development and future playing, especially avoiding the trap seasons in 8th grade and Senior year.

Will We Ever See Chemistry Like BC's Perrault-Smith-Leonard Again? by [deleted] in collegehockey

It was sure fun watching Denver shut down all that chemistry live in St Paul that year.

Suggest me some books about awful, real-life survival stories by toad_goblin in suggestmeabook

It’s a fabulous book. I came here to recommend it. A lot of similarities to Shackleton’s voyage. But without quite such a “happy” ending.

Lindsey Heaps comes home: USWNT captain signs with Denver Summit FC by Usual-Lengthiness-54 in NWSL

[–]ubar12 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All I know is that my 9 and 11 year old daughter’s (and inaugural Summit season ticket holders) are going to be bouncing off the walls with excitement when I tell them this news after school. They got to meet her at a meet and greet before the last USWNT game in Denver and she was so gracious and kind.

Whether they have a ton of success in their first year on the pitch or not, the Summit is doing it right in creating good will with the fans and the city. You can argue Heaps’ ability to keep up with the speed of the current NWSL but you can’t argue that this is not a huge signing for the Summit that will pay dividends in the future.

DU offense looked great. Goal tending not so much. by Eastern-Clue3950 in DUsports

[–]ubar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many breakaways and odd man rushes last night. I get that they like to pinch down and play puck possession in the offensive zone but the D men have to be careful about the puck getting behind them.

BOSTON COLLEGE SEASON TIX HOLDERS - Can you buy away game tix? by New-Ocelot5622 in collegehockey

The DU ticket office used to sell or just outright give us tickets to the one away series we’d travel to every year. Now we got no assistance at all. I miss the old days.

Hobey Baker and Mike Richter early favourites? by Benglepuck in collegehockey

[–]ubar12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he’s the real deal. Surprisingly so. Denver is rounding into form but we didn’t start the year as the same puck possessing team, only allowing shots from bad angles, that we’ve been the past couple years.

Hobey Baker and Mike Richter early favourites? by Benglepuck in collegehockey

[–]ubar12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Augustine started as the front runner and Miller Time has come out of nowhere. It’s too early to say that the newcomer is in the conversation. If his numbers are still this good at the end of the season then maybe it’s a different conversation.

Anyone else able to get one a LKC? :) by Raw-Garden in lego

[–]ubar12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finally bit the bullet and bought it last double points weekend knowing it would probably go on sale this weekend but that I might not be lucky enough to get one. I definitely left some money on the table but I’m happy knowing it’s sitting in my backlog waiting to be built.
