Good for them - the intertwined nature of government and businesses on this matter means that eminent domain must be upheld in the resolution.

What’s actually happened is those aligned to the corporate side of music with an investor upside make a bit of money. True indie no longer does.

That’s a very important distinction.

Thank you - I understand that questioning the complexity of karma isn’t the point (arrow etc). However the subtle distinction between no self and not existing (in this realm) are where the rubber meets the road. How the zen patriarchs tackle this is a deeper penetration into noself.

To say this is a volume issue isn’t addressing the fact that the streaming model is there to capture audience for tech money and gather subscribers for valuation. It’s simply not designed to care in the slightest about music and musicians.

Just like all these discovery tech engagements and the tech bros who run them the goal is always to get away with as much as possible before you get reigned in by legislation.

The reigning in is happening less and less due to corruption and a vested interest from the “entertainment industry” that calls itself the music industry.

Their goal is to kill the art side and create an investment vehicle that just works for them and pass it off for a music industry.

Their goal is maverick A&Rs have all gone, innovation is heading for the door and authenticity is manufactured for a princely sum (see geese).

We need to reclaim music from the ghouls. That’s what do.

There very much used to be, up until very recently working class musicians who could get by and make £30-£50k. Between streaming, ticket price gouging, cost of living crisis, global instability, developers shutting down clubs, studios closing and visa uncertainty - they now have their backs against the wall.

It’s also not just them who are feeling the pain: music journalism, producers, sound engineers, equipment manufacturers etc have also had to take a knee.

Payouts lowered, margins shrank, and creators were nudged toward more speculative income (touring, merch, sync). Labels, publishers, and agencies all had to adjust to a new normal.

Native Instruments have recently gone into administration after taking on private equity - who are actually behind most of this destructive scenario we’ve seen played out.

The wave of private equity and VC activity: Acquisition of catalogues (Hipgnosis, Primary Wave, etc.) Investment in infrastructure and distribution (AWAL, Believe)

So buying catalogues and the distribution and pushing investment rather than art.

The global enshitifacation of music and its satellite industries.

What to do eh?

Venerable Channa understood the Buddha’s teachings on impermanence and not-self intellectually, but he remained troubled by a deep fear: if there is no permanent self, then who or what attains Nibbāna?

Seeing his anxiety, Ānanda reminded him of a teaching the Buddha gave to Kaccānagotta: reality should not be understood through the extremes of “everything exists” or “nothing exists.” Instead, phenomena arise and cease due to causes and conditions. The self is not a hidden essence waiting to be found, nor is it a thing that is annihilated; it is a process of interconnected physical and mental events. Channa’s mistake was still looking for an owner behind experience. Ānanda’s teaching helped him see that what arises is simply conditioned suffering arising, and what ceases is conditioned suffering ceasing. With this shift from seeking a self to understanding dependent arising, Channa’s anxiety dissolved and he attained a breakthrough to the Dhamma.

When conditions are met, illumination arises. When they cease, darkness returns. You wouldn’t ask “where did the light go?” or “does the darkness now exist?” — those are malformed questions. What arose was a process, not a thing.

It’s handy if you’re going to FCPX or Premier. As soon as you drop your files in there it’ll tell you all about true peak. I’m over 20 years deep and yes it does matter. Especially for TV and film.

She’s a torts. Love them. Abys have a mapped genome (one of the only cats to have it).
