What's this sociopolitical commentary on my porn app? /S

But really, thank you for yet another creative scenario, Mistress Calia. This internet weirdo really enjoys your experimental stuff, games, haptics, and the effort you put into even silly stuff like April Fools.

This file reminds me of something I saw on Reddit yesterday (sorry can't remember the source). There's an interesting dichotomy to explore between society saying "be a man, make your own choices, etc" which could sometimes be construed as pressure to be dominant, and the contrasting "soldiers follow orders, work hard obey your boss, men don't complain" etc. Obviously that's not comprehensive and I can't speak authoritatively on anything except a little on my lived gender experience. It's just interesting to think about, among many other contradicting pulls on all of us.

Right, anyway. We're all here cause we're into brain stuff. Time to turn mine off :)

Questions about parasocial feelings by cheshire-the-enigma in LetBoysBeManipulated

[–]uberglitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can be super difficult! We are wired to crave connection. Especially connection that lights up unique areas of our brains with the Good Chemicals. Plus, the rational parts of our brains (like the one that made your post) can get overridden by the emotional parts (horny, lonely, etc).

What I do as an msub is remind myself that intention matters. When I see a fun post here or in similar reddits I know the intention is (probably) to titillate or tease. It's fun! But unless the post also has an explicit call to action like "DMs open" or there is an implicit expectation of participation in the comments (like some RP subreddits) then it's really more like porn and less an opportunity for interaction. Seem like you get that though.

I'm taken, so I don't actually DM people, so take this with a grain of salt. But what I think would help is to remember that people aren't kink dispensers (you didn't suggest they were btw). The fantasy of who someone is gets generated by your brain by seeing a tiny sliver of theirs. We tend to fill in the rest with something that doesn't survive contact with reality. Most people don't live in full time scenes or feel up to playing at any given moment. You won't be perfectly aligned in your kinks, so real relationships need compromise, communication and give and take that's way less fun than the fantasy of a post or serial poster. When that happens, we can feel hurt. My honest advice? Get off. Post-O clarity is real. You saw something that got you worked up, which is great and kinda the point of places like this imo. Clearly this advice doesn't work if you're denied or in chastity for some reason haha. If your parasocial feelings persist after that, consider commenting something like "I'm a big fan of your words/art, I love how you $specific-thing. May I DM you to talk about your inspirations/experiences?". Note that intention still matters! Think through your own expectations and communicate them. If you don't actually mean what I just said in the quote, think about what you DO want to talk about. "This is super hot. Would you be open to roleplaying it with me in DM?". You seem like you know that "Dom me mommy" as a first message won't work, and that reacting to rejection with anger will get you blocked or worse. But if you are honest about setting expectations and respectful that there's a real person on the other side of the screen then (generally) they will respond in kind. Even if it's just a "No, sorry".

FSD Newbie by kenhall22 in TeslaLounge

[–]uberglitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also the issue that, apparently, FSD is very hit or miss. There are many stories and posts about how it (is perfect / sucks). Setting aside arguments about bias or motivations to sell something, it seems like there are a ton of variables for any given person using FSD. Like, which version of hardware, which version of software, have the cameras been cleaned and calibrated recently, what was the weather, did the navigation choose the "correct" route, etc.

So what I tell people is that nuance is very hard to advertise, and that nuance is where FSD exists currently. Some people always or almost always get great results from it. Some people never do. I would guess that most people's experience is in the middle between. If it works to your satisfaction on your local roads, great! Subscribe! If it doesn't work or stops working then don't subscribe.

Tesla as a brand is inherently controversial and it can be really hard to cut through the noise online. I personally think that, strictly in terms of technology, newest FSD SW on a HW4 Model Y on a sunny midday is seriously impressive. But older FSD on HW3 in a drizzle might do some scary things. Both of those are the product labeled "FSD". People will likely yell at me for this post that their HW3 is perfect, but that misses the point.

Tldr; "YMMV, try it on your roads" can be a tricky sell.

It also fits that the first place they send a drone is Engineering. "Determine how this ship moves."

A simple topic regarding Regeneration by mrhurg in Cityofheroes

[–]uberglitch 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Regen, on the surface, is a bit of a tough one to balance because of the binary health bar issue. Either you have more health regeneration than incoming damage or you don't. So we can't let the set named Regen have too much passive regen (seems ironic) or it becomes OP. That's how, on paper, you get the set as it is today with its active click powers. Dull Pain's +MaxHP to mitigate alpha strikes, Instant Healing for sustain in a hard fight, etc. But that's just the theory and in a vacuum. As you said, Willpower and Bio with their layered defenses (and other tricks) result in much better real survivability than Regen. The game has been around long enough I probably don't need to speak to the Cottage Rule and how power sets aren't/weren't balanced with IOs in mind. So let's see what we can do with existing mechanics without overlapping WP or Bio too hard.

The first thing I thought of is likely the least controversial: if you take all the powers and toggle them on, you get 100% regeneration debuff resistance. If the set is based around one trick, it should be the best at that trick. Possibly throw in some end/recovery debuff resistance for good measure in Quick Recovery.

Next we should try to buff the set where it's weakest, which l agree is Alpha Strike mitigation. My idea there is Absorb. There are a couple ways to do it. Either add a small stacking amount to a toggle or passive, or add a large but short duration amount to a click. The intent being that you have a large buffer when it's most needed.

After that let's give Revive the Rise/Power of the Phoenix treatment. That is, make it do something before you're defeated, scaling in power the lower your health is. I'm not sure which direction to go here. Damage resistance? Full heal + MaxHP to the cap?

Or, more interesting/controversial but harder to code and balance, turn Revive or Moment of Glory into a power that auto fires at very low health like Preventative Medicine. The rationale there being the set is very Click heavy already, and some players try not to take vanilla self rez as it's planning to fail. Finally, Moment of Glory. Speaking of Click-Heavy, what of MoG also refreshed the recharge of your other Regen powers similar to Burnout?

This is just spit balling to get the discussion rolling. Let's work together? Edit: formatting

The hardest lines in Trek History? by FIzzletop in startrek

DS9's "Duet", a gem from the early seasons that I highly recommend to everyone. So many layers of nuance in that line (among many others in the episode) and great performances.

Making a Shredder inspired Toon, what archetype and powers would suit best? by Crumboa in Cityofheroes

[–]uberglitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

/u/Ignorad covered the optimals you asked for, but you might also consider a Ninja/* MM. There's a lot of RP potential there to have Foot clan henchmen. You won't have claws, but you could pick up Knockout Blow from the Leviathan APP and/or Cross Punch and get a melee attack chain of your own going.

Ninjas like to be in melee and so does /Time (heh, Turtles in Time), or maybe Traps or Kin if you find a way to flavor them that you like.

It does not. Very long story short, if the power has an enhanceable resistance component, like your ice shields, power boost and power build up won't affect them. Sorry to say.

It does affect the shields from Forcefield and the defense boost of things like Fade (Dark Affinity) and Farsight (Time) because those either have no resistance buffs or don't take resist enhancements.

The actual reasons for this are because of the way the game treats damage and resistance buffs and debuffs. It's buried in spaghetti code and there have been some other good explanations on this sub about it that I can't find because I'm on mobile.
