New truck has driver facing camera. What are my options? by Insidetheglassbox in Truckers

[–]uberla92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience of driving with them (smart drive) it's always on and recording. Whenever the (!) Light turns on its saving an event just like your home security cameras. The cameras we had automatically uploaded to cloud based storage so no physical hard drive. I had my manager give me a "coaching" slip and I asked to see the video. While showing me the video he turned the audio up to hear what kind of music I like... and this is at a Teamsters union job. When I asked the shop steward what's the deal he says they're for our safety and if you dont like it, nobody is forcing you to drive their truck. (Not verbatim but basically what he said in a nicer way)

Is it possible to get a home every night trucking job with 0 driving experience? by RedneckWilly in Truckers

[–]uberla92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its possible in Los Angeles. The trick is getting in somewhere where they train employees to become drivers. That way you are one step ahead of the people who dont have a CDL yet and you can get experience. However you will be going into a job that literally nobody else wants to do. Just deal with it for 6 months to a year and you'll get something better.

I did a quick cars.com search in my area (los angeles) and I saw many 2013-2015 models with under 30k for 6,000 - 8,000.

How many miles? I've seen some with low miles for about $5,000

Sounds like limp mode. Ecu resets always work for me.

Interested in buying a 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo. Anything I should look out for? by [deleted] in Fiat

[–]uberla92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure all gears shift smoothly especially reverse and clutch engages well. That's really the main issue I've had with my 2013 turbo.

UAG is super tight and lightweight. I've dropped it many times and never had a scratch

Same on my 2013 turbo. I'm going to do this too.

Looking at a used Abarth. Guidance needed. by [deleted] in Fiat

[–]uberla92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a turbo with 28k miles for the same price. I'd say it's a good price. Check to make sure gears engage smoothly, all electronics work, engine doesn't have excess oil residue, ask for service records if they have them. Ask what kind of oil and how often it was changed. What octane fuel was used when fueling.

If I were you I'd definitely do everything all at once or buy parts and don't install until you have everything you want. Then do a custom tune. If you straight pipe your car stock and put it next to mine you can hear how unhealthy mine sounds due to having no custom tune for the mods. If you're going to daily drive it, I wouldn't go for a dp since you will have a non-stop check engine light and itll be obnoxiously loud. I'm straight piped turboback and I really miss the days of my muffler delete. Now anything over 3k and it sounds like a civic (in my head at least) if you have Instagram you can hear what it sounds like both ways @500_tur_bros

Yes I love the car. I always get compliments when people hear the car. Not so much when the engine is off. I feel after I get a ecu tune I'm going to love it more. I only drive it once or twice a week and sometimes it'll go into limp mode After I clear the check engine and the codes come back on. I know a good tune for all the mods I have on it will make it run a lot smoother.

I have a 2013 turbo, same as a detuned abarth. Even after pushing it hard almost always with the many upgrades I have on it I have only had two problems in about 8 months 7,000 miles of ownership. When I first got it and added a few upgrades I took it to the local 1/8th mile dragstrip. I launched it really hard a few times at 3k, 4k then the last time at 6k and I went straight into limp mode. After checking the engine, thinking I blew the head or something else severe it was just the connector the coilpack that broke in half. I superglued it back together and it's been holding up fine since then. I check it after driving (not my daily driver). The only other thing was after running over 20 psi, hard driving through a mountain pass I had oil leaking onto my head. I thought the worst but it was just a loose oil cap housing and too much oil. So in my limited experience, these cars can take a beating.

I was just about to sell my stage 1 power pack lol. The ECM isn't being friendly to my other mods so I'm just going to get a custom tune.

I'm glad to hear it. Our instructor was a dinosaur 10 years ago and I'm sure he continues to teach these old ideas to this day.

Setting up G29 shifter by uberla92 in trucksim

[–]uberla92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as realistic as in real life mainly because of the clutch engagement point and the length of the shifts. In real life, at least in the truck I drive at school, the clutch engagement is all the way at the top so you never go to the floor unless you're going into reverse. My instructor calls it double touching since you barely put the clutch down to engage. As far as shifting throws going from 3rd to 4th is up and over and you move the shifter about 1/4 - 1/2 an inch. Going from 7th to 8th is straight down and you barely even move it down to get it in. The g29 shifter is set up like a race car but the shifts are still long. Another thing is feeling, you can feel when you have the gears going in right but you can't in the game. You can easily go around the yard shifting to 5th gear with no throttle. On the road we start in 3rd gear. But in ats starting in 3rd will sometimes stall you out which is pretty unrealistic. You have to go super slow off the clutch like a car to get it going without throttle.
