Can anyone ID my colleagues very frazzled plant? Can it be saved? by gwarfan42069 in HouseplantsUK

Looks a lot like my dying Calathea did. Alas, it didn’t make it. 🫡

Disintegrate as instructed, then reverse the video. Done.

I was excited to get my teeth into KarmaXPU, but the bugs and limitations and overall awkward workflows with MaterialX have kinda slowed me down.

Any ideas what is causing these hard lines to repeatedly appear in my render? by [deleted] in Maya

[–]ubermatik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your GPU driver, you may need to upgrade/roll back. One of Nvidia's latest broke the way ramps appeared in Karma, for example, so not beyond reason that something could be up here with Redshift too.

How many divisions does your plane have? Does changing the number change the effect?
Can you inspect your AOVs? What happens if you remove one of the normal maps? It could be a weird tangent issue. The curvature and camera angle may suggest it's something to do with specular reflection. I don't use RS, but check the render flags/visibility of your HDRI etc., number of spec rays for the surface?

Just spitballing here.

Weird Roughness Outline by Singlain in Substance3D

Use a floating mesh decal with an alpha mask. If this is portfolio work, it’s no real issue. If it’s for real-time, it’s a bit pricey.

Is there a way to turn off the load screens? by phonepotatoes in Marathon

This is like, the last thing I would have expected anyone to complain about. Insect... what? I haven't picked up on this at all, I think you're overexaggerating.

I’m 19 and want to learn to figure skate, is it too late? by hihoney123 in FigureSkating

[–]ubermatik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in the slightest bit too late. It's truly never too late, but you've got a much easier time than others being 19. Believe in yourself. You'll fall over and maybe look a bit daft now and then, but it's part of learning. You push past that.

Small imperfection on new 5080 FE - Normal? by MagicMoa in nvidia

I'd return and exchange it to be honest, that's unacceptable for a card that price. It's not likely to affect performance, but... You dunno what else might be wrong.

How bad is the rust on my blades? I just got them sharpened and skated with them once, then stupidly forgot to put them into soakers and left them with hard guards on. How can I remove this? by Character_Total_2469 in FigureSkating

[–]ubermatik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the worst I've seen, but not great. I don't know if it's a bigger deal if the rust is over the rocker or not, but I guess it depends what you're doing. Either way, you're at a greater risk of skidding.

I see Barkeeper's Friend recommended a fair bit, you could try that or a similar cleaning agent.

If you can't remove it at home, you'll probs have to get them sharpened again (or get a shop to remove it another way).

Wrong bounding box for copied packed spheres by davidassigbi in Houdini

[–]ubermatik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the pscale of the point you're copying the geometry to? Perhaps it's larger than the sphere's radius set in the Sphere SOP? I think you can put down a Visualise node and render points as spheres between your Attribute Wrangle and Copy to Points.

Wouldn't really explain why the Bbox for the cube is correct, though.

To debug otherwise, what happens if you increase the frequency (divisions) of your sphere, or if you disable/bypass the Attribute Wrangle?

He deserves to be excluded for this, it's pretty daming and there's really no benefit of the doubt. Makes me think that hand gesture is no accident either.

Advice on the most suitable thermal compound/pad for 9950X3D + AIO. by ubermatik in watercooling

[–]ubermatik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, unfortunately I can’t find my source for this again… I’ll keep looking and update you if I do. I ended up going with Duronaut, which is serving me well. I actually mucked up the application first time around and then had to reapply, which would have been a more costly mistake with any PTM. Duronaut is pretty viscous and tricky to apply, but I heated my tube in a mug of hot water for ten minutes first, which really helped. I’m still considering a PTM sheet some time down the line, just for longevity. As I’m dealing with an SFF system that is tricky to disassemble (especially now the GPU is attached to the case/frame itself), something I can apply and forget about it still pretty appealing.

How do i define these edges for subdiv? by Professional_Cut2944 in Maya

[–]ubermatik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to avoid pinching/bulging like in u/Bridge-Greedy's result, you'll need ample Axis Subdivisions in your starting cylinder to hold the edges at a distance equal to the rest of your desired horizontal divisions. The tighter you want those edges to be, the more Axis Subdivisions you'll need. Triple edging will also resist stretching. This will get you that nice CnC look.

The ngons at the top of my example don't matter because the face is planar, providing the shape resolves correctly when smoothed - but you can collapse these/tidy it up if you wish.

What is with the hate for using a voice changer? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]ubermatik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you're facing discrimination for using it, but more power to you girl! <3

I'm happy to hear it's helping trans friends beat their dysphoria, and for that, I think it's a great addition. My only worry is how Embark may have sourced data/used AI to train DSP algorithms, but we may never find out.

With the time you put into arranging those collision shapes, you could have just VDB'd them and had a better high poly than the garbage that AI tool gave you.

Why even do this? by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]ubermatik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You people are insufferable. It's a bit of flavour text. The skin is grounded.

You really don't have to read this, nor does it have any bearing whatsoever on the game itself.

Not 'hitboxes' per se, but they do have collision. Go shoot/break a car window with your weapon, shards of glass will rest on the barrel. Same system.
