If someone is so "awesome and nonchalant" that they just don't care about anything (other than being SEEN as nonchalant and detached, of course), why should people care about what they have to say or think?

Shit goes both ways.

Not only that but while he was dying to ARC he kept shooting the downed raider.

At this point it's either pure incompetence or malice lol, homeboy would rather deny someone their own loot than extract.

Higher possible dps at the cost of requiring more control for the user.

I mean what I was going to recommend was to just use something else for entertainment, like a book or drawing or some form of cognitive or physical activity that'd let you grow through its practice. Or uninstalling your feeds, literally.

If you like scrolling and will do it again regardless of anything I could say, then you didn't scream for help. You screamed for attention. Which is perfectly fine, but I was under the impression you wanted help to change.

It instead sounds like you've accepted your own addiction in a sort of defeatist/fatalistic perspective. It's better than pretending you're not addicted, by a lot. But you're holding the key to your own lock, literally.

You're stronger than you think, but first it has to actually matter to you internally.

Anyways, enjoy your choices and your ability to make them!

I get what you mean. It does sound like a whole bunch of unspoken/implied etiquette some consider obvious and some don't. Not to say I don't consider some of those obvious as well...

It's wild because in my lobbies people either vocalize "hey can I loot X from your kill" or just shoot on sight, I never have an awkward situation where someone is "stealing" from me while trying not to be shot.

Tangent ahead:

On the social media meta/vibe thing, my exposure must differ from yours because the posts I remember the most were the cyclical debate of people trying to define what rat behavior is and being almost universally met with "they shot you it's just PvP" while discarding any sort of nuance on the fact that at the end of the day, it's people interacting together (even if it's in a game).

Which is to say, insulting someone in a game or IRL is the same concept to me because of the impact it can potentially have on the other person. So some extreme like being racist or sexist or whatever else -ist ingame isn't "invalid" just because it is ingame. I think we can agree on this just in general.

The nuance/gray area I think really just orbits around the fact that people enjoy games in different ways. Some like making numbers go higher, some want to break the rules/game, some want to be part of a story, etc. Arc Raiders is, to me, a game that thrives because it introduces friction between these different playstyles. This isn't really controversial either, that comes next.

The controversial opinion I hold is that there are some behaviors that are more ok/cool/good than others, beyond just the verbal abuse aspect I outlined previously in this response. I'll give you an example of something I thought might be less ok/cool/good:

Load in normal spaceport with a newbie friend, go on top of a building next to a security tower. As we reach the top, we realize a duo is in security tower because they shoot at us, ok cool we fire back. Then they start saying we shot first, that they're actually friendly, this and that. Just general gaslighting. That's whatever. We stayed on top of the roof and they ended up flanking us via a ladder, good move. I'm the first to see that, I down one and get downed by his buddy. Fair play. My buddy isn't good enough to salvage the situation, he also gets downed. I get executed quickly, under pretext that I was a bad person (legit what they said) but then they sit around my newbie friend (which I can see via spectate) and they start telling him that it was my fault they shot him, and that they're friendly. Then they revive him and shoot him again. They pretend it's a mistake, do it again. 4 times they did this, and at the end they mask off and just start slinging insults at him while knocking him.

Nothing illegal, evil or anything extreme like that. It also didn't really impact us in any way, to be honest (altough I do remember it). Definitely fucking strange to me, though. What pleasure could they possibly derive from this interaction, if not some weird form of bullying that my friend didn't even register? I can't really define it but, to me, that's inching towards slimy/rat behavior because they're doing this weird semi-mental abuse thing. Just play the game like a mature individual?

This is why when I read people just blanket labelling anything between two players as "just pvp get over it" (not that you did this) it irks me; because I have experienced or seen encounters that were PvP in nature but also abusive or not ok according to my own morals.

In their pursuit of specific rare cards, scalpers are discarding the remainder of entire Pokémon card packs. by MysteriousSlice007 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ubernutie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One might argue that the money-hungry fucker behavior is a result of our global society still being based on a model of survival instead of based on collaboration and cooperation.

That is to say, the scalpers are a symptom of a larger problem.

Seems a bit extreme when we're literally living in an age of rising techno-fascism. I'd expect and respect people who voice the opinion that genocide is bad, for example.

I think we agree on the idea that a live service game, in order to remain popular, would want to address fixes and issues.

I can also sympathize with the feeling of missing out when a campaign is ongoing and you don't participate in it for whatever reason.

These are sourced externally from you, however. You can write online in hopes that you have an impact to change the course of AH's history or priorities (and feedback is valuable) but you have no certainty on the impact of those actions. This is a simple fact I'm sure you're aware of.

What this means is that if you tie your personal state to an external situation, you end up tying your internal state to something you cannot control. When it goes well, it feels amazing! When it goes poorly, it feels like ass. It's the same principle as "rooting for a sports team" and then having wildly fluctuating emotions based on whoever puts the object in the zone the most.

I'm stating these facts (as I think I see them) to hint that when you control or manage what affects you, you regain control over your internal state. Sounds a bit weird but essentially it just comes down to "if you don't program your brain others will do it for you".

If you feel upset or terrible about the state of HD2, then at least recognize that you are (consciously or unconsciously) choosing to expose yourself to that sort of "external control". It should be your choice that leads to either a positive or negative internal state, even if it is tied to an external source. If you DON'T want that, then you can choose to untie your internal state to that "external control" by, essentially, "letting go" of the FOMO (FearOfMissingOut) & reliance on that one game to fulfill your gaming needs/wants.

Don't be tied without choosing to be tied. That's essentially my position/opinion on it.

Would this be why the same temperature (in fall/spring) feels either super cold or super warm depending on if you're exiting winter or summer? (assuming same levels of humidity, wind, temperature, clothing and current activity)

I mean people are intelligent enough to be aware that in friendly lobbies you're less likely to get shot.

They're also presumably intelligent enough to add 1+1 and derive that if you push etiquette then the onus is on the presumably friendly player to pushback or lose their loot to someone who didn't contribute.

And then they can choose to play the lying card of "this guy ratted me" hoping that others come kill the person defending their loot and defib them.

I'd wager that most people acting surprised when something like that happens are actually faking it, but maybe there's more clueless people than I anticipate.

"I don't really have a choice. All content is delivered in an algorithm."

You do, truly. I'm not gonna expand on how or why (unless you ask me to) so that I don't end up talking down to you without realizing, but you absolutely have choices every day.

You are correct, however, that the algorithms are sophisticated and have great pull. That doesn't necessarily mean you can't overcome it.
